Description
The present invention relates to an organic transistor used for, for example, a display device and a method for manufacturing the same. More specifically, the present invention relates to an organic transistor that uses a plastic film substrate and forms a sealing layer on an organic semiconductor layer by coating or printing, and a method for manufacturing the same.
Among various semiconductor devices, active matrix substrates such as liquid crystal display devices, electroluminescent display devices, and electrophoretic display devices are thin film transistors (hereinafter referred to as TFTs) using a method such as photolithography on the surface of a substrate having an insulating surface. Form).
In general, the process of forming a metal, semiconductor, or insulator when forming a TFT involves high-temperature processing, and therefore, the substrate to be used requires a material having excellent heat resistance, and quartz glass or heat-resistant glass is used. Yes.
In addition, the application of these display devices to mobile devices and large-sized wall-mounted televisions has attracted attention. Currently, quartz glass and heat-resistant glass used as TFT substrates have excellent heat resistance but have the disadvantage of being heavy and easily broken. Plastic substrates were used instead of glass substrates to reduce the weight and thickness of the substrates. Attempts have been made to manufacture semiconductor devices.
The TFT manufacturing process includes a process in which heat of about 400 ° C. to 500 ° C. is applied. On the other hand, a general plastic has a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 200 ° C. or lower.
As a method of forming TFTs without applying heat to the plastic film, a method has been devised in which TFTs are formed on a glass substrate and then transferred from the glass substrate to the plastic film. Compared with the method, the manufacturing method is complicated and the cost is high.
Attempts have been made to form organic transistors by a printing method as a method for forming flexible TFTs on a plastic film by using a relatively low temperature process at a low production cost.
The organic semiconductor used for the organic transistor can be formed on a plastic substrate at a relatively low temperature and easily and at a low manufacturing cost as compared with a Si-based inorganic semiconductor, but the organic semiconductor is easily affected by oxygen and moisture. Poor chemical resistance. In particular, in an organic transistor used in a display device, it is necessary to form a display element on an organic semiconductor, and the display element is an organic semiconductor during the manufacturing process for forming the display element and when the manufactured display device is operated. This may have a physical and chemical adverse effect on the organic transistor and may deteriorate the characteristics of the organic transistor.
However, when a sealing method using a polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution is used, deterioration of the characteristics of the organic semiconductor during sealing is a problem. Moreover, since the barrier property of the sealing layer is not high, it is difficult to prevent deterioration of the semiconductor over time.

Furthermore, the organic transistor layer was formed by forming an organic semiconductor (9,9-dioctylfluorenecobithiophene solution) by inkjet printing. After the formation of the organic transistor layer, a sealing layer was formed by the method described later, and after storing in a 40 ° C. and 90% relative humidity atmosphere for 100 hours, the atmosphere was returned to room temperature and humidity.
