Description
<第1実施形態>
本発明の第1実施形態に係る有機EL装置及びその駆動方法について、図1から図7を参照して説明する。
後述するように、温度検出用画素部に設けられた温度検出用の有機EL素子の電流値を検出可能に構成されており、検出した電流値を駆動波形制御回路170に出力する。駆動波形制御回路170は、後述するように、電流検出回路190によって検出された電流値に基づいて、温度検出用画素部に設けられた温度検出用の有機EL素子の温度を算出し、算出した温度に基づいて、後述する補正データを生成し、データ線駆動回路150に出力する。データ線駆動回路150は、駆動波形制御回路170からの補正データと表示データとから画素部70を駆動するための駆動波形を生成し、生成した駆動波形を、画像表示領域110に配線されたデータ線114に供給する。尚、走査線駆動回路130の動作とデータ線駆動回路150の動作とは、同期信号線160を介して相互に同期が図られる。
<第2実施形態>
次に、本発明の第2実施形態に係る有機EL装置及びその駆動方法について、図8及び図9を参照して説明する。ここに図8は、第2実施形態における図7と同趣旨の平面図である。図9は、第2実施形態における図5と同趣旨のブロック図である。尚、図8及び図9において、図1から図7に示した第1実施形態に係る構成要素と同様の構成要素に同一の参照符合を付し、それらの説明は適宜省略する。
<電子機器>
次に、上述した、第1又は第2実施形態に係る有機EL装置が各種の電子機器に適用される場合について説明する。
先ず、この有機EL装置を、モバイル型のパーソナルコンピュータに適用した例について説明する。図10は、このパーソナルコンピュータの構成を示す斜視図である。図において、コンピュータ1200は、キーボード1202を備えた本体部1204と、有機EL装置を用いて構成された表示部1005を有する表示ユニット1206とを備えている。
さらに、この有機EL装置を、携帯電話に適用した例について説明する。図11は、この携帯電話の構成を示す斜視図である。図において、携帯電話1300は、複数の操作ボタン1302と共に、有機EL装置を用いて構成された表示部1305を備えるものである。
Claims (6)
- 基板上に、
情報を表示するための第1の表示用発光素子を夫々含む複数の画素部と、
前記複数の画素部が設けられた表示領域に設けられ、且つ、前記第1の表示用発光素子に含まれる有機層と同一の有機層を含むと共に遮光膜によって遮光された、温度を検出するための温度検出用発光素子を含む非発光部分と、前記第1の表示用発光素子に含まれる有機層と同一の有機層を含み、前記情報を表示するための第2の表示用発光素子を含む発光部分とを有する温度検出用画素部と、
前記温度検出用発光素子の電流値を検出することにより、前記温度検出用発光素子の温度を検出する温度検出手段と、
該温度検出手段によって検出された温度に応じて、前記第1の表示用発光素子が所定の輝度で発光するために前記第1の表示用発光素子に印加すべき印加電流を算出する印加電流算出手段と、
前記印加電流を前記第1の表示用発光素子に印加する電流印加手段と
を備え、
前記温度検出用画素部は、前記表示領域における中央部と周縁部における4箇所とに設けられた複数の温度検出用画素部であり、
前記温度検出手段は、前記複数の温度検出用画素部に夫々含まれる前記温度検出用発光素子の温度を夫々検出する
ことを特徴とする発光装置。 - 前記第1の表示用発光素子は、R(赤)、G(緑)及びB(青)の各色のいずれかを発光する3種類の有機層を夫々含む3種類の表示用発光素子であり、
前記温度検出用発光素子は、前記3種類の有機層と同一の3種類の有機層を夫々含む3種類の温度検出用発光素子であり、
前記温度検出手段は、前記3種類の温度検出用発光素子の各々の温度を検出し、
前記印加電流算出手段は、前記3種類の表示用発光素子の各々の前記印加電流を算出する
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の発光装置。 - 前記温度検出用発光素子は、5mV/℃以上の温度特性を有する有機材料を含むことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の発光装置。
- 前記温度検出手段は、前記温度検出用発光素子に所定電圧を印加して、前記電流値を検出することを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載の発光装置。
- 請求項1から4のいずれか一項に記載の発光装置を具備してなる電子機器。
- 基板上に、情報を表示するための第1の表示用発光素子を夫々含む複数の画素部と、前記複数の画素部が設けられた表示領域に設けられ、且つ、前記第1の表示用発光素子に含まれる有機層と同一の有機層を含むと共に遮光膜によって遮光された、温度を検出するための温度検出用発光素子を含む非発光部分と、前記第1の表示用発光素子に含まれる有機層と同一の有機層を含み、前記情報を表示するための第2の表示用発光素子を含む発光部分とを有する温度検出用画素部とを備え、前記温度検出用画素部は、前記表示領域における中央部と周縁部における4箇所とに設けられた複数の温度検出用画素部である発光装置の駆動方法であって、
前記複数の温度検出用画素部に夫々含まれる前記温度検出用発光素子の電流値を検出することにより、前記複数の温度検出用画素部に夫々含まれる前記温度検出用発光素子の温度を夫々検出する温度検出工程と、
該温度検出工程によって検出された温度に応じて、前記第1の表示用発光素子が所定の輝度で発光するために前記第1の表示用発光素子に印加すべき印加電流を算出する印加電流算出工程と、
前記印加電流を前記第1の表示用発光素子に印加する電流印加工程と
を含むことを特徴とする発光装置の駆動方法。
