Description
【0001】

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, there is no conventional configuration in which the internal combustion engine is provided with a cover that protects the temperature sensor from pebbles and the like. Motorcycles and tricycles employ a structure in which the internal combustion engine is exposed to the outside as it is to achieve a cooling function and reduce weight. Therefore, the temperature sensor provided in the oil return passage is also exposed to the outside, and thus there is a possibility that pebbles and the like may collide with the temperature sensor during traveling.
[0007]
The present invention has been made to solve the above problems, can protect a sensor that detects the operating state of the internal combustion engine, and further has both ease of assembly and durability and is lightweight, And it aims at providing the internal combustion engine provided with the cover which can cool the sensor and the internal combustion engine efficiently.

In order to solve the above problems, in an internal combustion engine, which is a straddle-type vehicle, a cylinder shaft is substantially horizontal and is disposed substantially in the front-rear direction with respect to the vehicle , and the cylinder includes a sensor for detecting an operating state. has a sensor cover for protecting the sensor, the sensor cover relative to the said vehicle, cover the front and lower sides of the sensor, characterized in that it is held in the internal combustion engine (according Item 1).
[0009]
According to this invention, the sensor is protected by the sensor cover .
[0010]
In this case, the sensor cover is bent and formed in a substantially L shape, the sensor is disposed inside the substantially L shape, and a plate-like member that covers the front and the bottom of the sensor with respect to the vehicle , When configured with a bar-like member that supports the plate-like member (the invention according to claim 2), the sensor cover has sufficient durability. In other words, since the durability as the sensor cover is maintained even if the thickness of the plate-like member is thin to some extent, the sensor cover itself can be made lightweight.
[0011]
Furthermore, even if there is some variation in the thickness of each part of the plate-like member, the plate-like member is supported by the rod-like member as described above, so that sufficient durability as a sensor cover can be obtained. That is, since the plate-shaped member does not necessarily have to be highly accurate, it can be easily and inexpensively manufactured.
[0012]
Further, since the plate-like member is bent and formed in a substantially L-shape directed from the front to the rear of the cylinder, the front and lower sides of the cylinder are covered and the side and rear are opened. That is, the front and the bottom where the possibility of collision of pebbles and the like is the highest is covered, so that the sensor is protected. On the other hand, since the sides and the rear are open, the area of the wind received by traveling that comes into contact with the cylinder and the sensor becomes large, and both can be suitably cooled.
[0013]
Further, the mounting portion on the cylinder side is formed between the cooling fins formed on the side portion of the cylinder, and the shape of at least a part of the mounting portion on the sensor cover side is made to correspond to the shape between the cooling fins. (The invention according to claim 3). With this configuration, the sensor cover-side mounting portion is positioned by being sandwiched between cooling fins, so that the rotation of the sensor cover can be prevented. Therefore, for example, when the cylinder and the sensor cover are fixed with bolts, one side is sufficient for each side surface, so the number of bolts can be reduced and the assembly work to the internal combustion engine is easy. It becomes.
[0014]
In addition, in order to fix the mounting portions to each other with bolts, the screw shafts of the bolts are substantially perpendicular to the axial direction of the cylinder, and the screw shafts are substantially horizontal with respect to the vehicle. It is set to the same axis, the sensor cover and that is disposed below the mounting portion (invention described in claim 4), the load due to a collision, such as pebbles, substantially uniformly applied to the bolt fastening portions of the cylinder ends Thus, twisting of the bolt is avoided, and the durability of the cylinder can be improved.
[0015]
Further, when a notch is provided in at least one end of the bent portion of the plate-like member (the invention according to claim 5), the wind received by traveling is caught in the notch and flows into the sensor cover, and the sensor Can be cooled directly. Furthermore, even when the internal combustion engine is covered with a cowl, by providing the notch, it is possible to secure a space between the sensor cover and the cowl, so that the wind flow received during traveling is sufficiently ensured. The sensor and the cylinder can be efficiently cooled by this wind.
[0016]
Furthermore, when the sensor cover is made of metal (invention 6), heat from the internal combustion engine can be transmitted to the sensor cover side. Therefore, heat is released from the surface of the sensor cover due to the heat dissipation effect, and the internal combustion engine can be suitably cooled. The sensor may be provided at a lower portion of the cylinder, and the sensor cover may be held on both right and left sides of the cylinder with respect to the vehicle (the invention according to claim 7). Since the sensor cover is held on both the left and right sides of the cylinder, even if an excessive load is applied to the sensor cover due to a collision of traveling pebbles or the like, the entire sensor cover tends to rotate in the front-rear direction. Since force is applied, this acts as a cushion, and it is possible to avoid the concentration of load on the site where the pebbles collide. That is, the durability of the sensor cover is improved, and as a result, the sensor can be protected. Further, the present invention is a straddle-type vehicle, the axis of the cylinder is disposed substantially longitudinal direction relative to the said vehicle in a substantially horizontal, in an internal combustion engine having a sensor for detecting the operating state to the cylinder, the internal combustion is held in the engine, based on the vehicle, cover the front and below the sensor includes a sensor cover to expose the left and right, and a body cover that covers the engine and the sensor, said sensor, left and right The surface is covered with the vehicle body cover (the invention according to claim 8). A gap may be provided between the sensor cover and the vehicle body cover (the invention according to claim 9). The sensor cover may be covered with the vehicle body cover in a side view (invention according to claim 10). The exhaust pipe may be provided so as to protrude from the connecting portion with the cylinder to the opposite side of the sensor in the vehicle width direction (the invention according to claim 11).
