BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a light source unit using a light guide material, an illumination device, and a liquid crystal display device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
An illumination device such as a front light or a backlight used in a liquid crystal display device or the like basically includes a light guide plate and a light source unit disposed on a side end surface thereof, and transmits light emitted from the light source unit to the side of the light guide plate. An object to be illuminated such as a liquid crystal panel is illuminated by introducing light from the end face (incident face) and emitting light with uniform illuminance from the entire outgoing face.
[0003]
A light source unit that supplies light to the light guide plate that constitutes such an illuminating device emits light from a point light source such as an LED in order to allow uniform light to enter the entire side end surface (incident surface) of the light guide plate. It has a rectangular bar-shaped light guide material called a bar light guide that extends to the same width as the side end face (incident surface) of the light guide plate with uniform illuminance. (For example, refer to Patent Document 1).
[0004]
[Patent Document 1]
JP 2002-324424 A
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The bar light guide used in the conventional light source unit as described above forms a V-shaped groove on the surface opposite to the exit surface facing the side end surface (incident surface) of the light guide plate. The light propagated from the light source is reflected in the direction of the exit surface by the reflecting surface on which the light is formed, and the light is irradiated toward the light guide plate. And in the groove | channel which comprises a reflective surface, metal films, such as Al and Ag, were formed in order to raise reflection efficiency.
[0006]
However, in such a bar light guide having a reflective film made of metal or the like formed in a V-shaped groove, the reflectance on the reflecting surface is only about 90%, and the increase in the number of reflections causes the light from the light source to be reflected. There was a problem that attenuation was large. For this reason, it is desired to increase the illuminance of the light source unit by further improving the reflectance of the bar light guide and efficiently using light from the light source.
[0007]
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a light source unit that improves the illuminance of light emitted from an exit surface by efficiently using light of a light source. It is said.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, according to the present invention, there is provided a light source and a bar light guide that introduces light from the light source into the inside from the incident surface at the side end and emits the light from the emitting surface with uniform illuminance. And a light source unit that is disposed adjacent to the light exit surface and supplies light toward a light guide plate that illuminates the object to be illuminated. A light source unit is provided in which a prism shape for reflecting and emitting propagating light is formed.
Specifically, the present invention includes a light source and a bar light guide that introduces light from the light source into the inside from the incident surface at the side end and emits the light from the emission surface with uniform illuminance, and is adjacent to the emission surface. A light source unit that supplies light toward a light guide plate that illuminates an object to be illuminated, and reflects and emits the propagation light inside the bar light guide onto the exit surface of the bar light guide A prismatic shape is formed, and a flat reflecting surface is formed on the opposite side of the light emitting surface of the bar light guide, and the prism shape has a plurality of wedge-shaped protrusions in cross-sectional view formed on the emitting surface. The ridge is composed of a steep slope portion and a gentle slope portion, and a steep slope portion is formed on the steep slope portion and the gentle slope portion on the traveling direction side of the propagating light, and is incident on the steep slope portion. Direction of propagation of propagating light and progression of reflected light emitted from the steep slope The angle formed by the direction is an obtuse angle, the inner surface of the steep slope portion is formed to face the outer surface side of the exit surface, and the angle formed by the gentle slope portion with respect to a reference plane parallel to the flat reflective surface Θ 1 And the angle formed by the steep slope is θ 2 As the inclination angle θ of the gentle slope portion 1 Is 0.5 ° or more and 5 ° or less, and the inclination angle θ of the steep slope portion is 2 Is set to 40 ° or more and 55 ° or less, The steep slope is formed so that the steep slope portion has a larger inclination angle as the protrusion is away from the light source. A light source unit is provided.
[0009]
According to such a light source unit, the light that is introduced into the bar light guide and propagates can be emitted without loss by almost 100% total reflection. This greatly contributes to the improvement in the illuminance of light emitted from the exit surface.
[0010]
The prism shape is preferably composed of a plurality of protrusions formed on the exit surface, and a slope portion is preferably formed on the protrusion in the traveling direction side of the propagation light. Moreover, it is preferable that the angle formed by the traveling direction of the propagation light incident on the slope and the traveling direction of the reflected light of the propagation light is an obtuse angle. According to such a light source unit, the amount of light reflected by the slope portion increases, and the amount of light emitted from the exit surface can be increased.
[0011]
The protrusion may be formed such that the inclination angle of the inclined surface portion increases as the distance from the light source increases, and the protrusion may be formed so that the formation size increases as the distance from the light source increases. According to such a light source unit, the light emitted from the emission surface can make the illuminance uniform over the entire width of the emission surface, and luminance unevenness can be eliminated.
[0012]
The inner surface of the slope portion may be formed so as to face the outer surface side of the emission surface, and the protrusion may have a substantially trapezoidal shape in a sectional view in which a flat portion is formed on the top portion. Further, the protrusion may be formed in a wedge shape in cross section. According to such a light source unit, a structure in which light does not easily leak out from a surface other than the inclined surface portion can be obtained, and the use efficiency of the light source can be improved and the luminance of the illumination light can be improved. The inclination angle of such a slope is preferably set to 40 ° or more and 60 ° or less.
[0013]
If the light source unit described above is applied to an illuminating device including a light guide plate that propagates light emitted from the light source unit and irradiates an object to be illuminated, it greatly contributes to improvement in illuminance of light emitted from the illuminating device. . Moreover, if this illumination device is applied to a liquid crystal display device, it contributes to the realization of a liquid crystal display device capable of reducing illumination unevenness of the liquid crystal panel and enabling clear display with excellent visibility.
