Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a lead-free lanthanum crown glass having a refractive index n d of 1.66 to 1.76 and an Abbe number ν d of 46 to 57 . Since the glass of the present invention includes those having a composition range classified as lanthanum flint glass , such a case is referred to as lead-free lanthanum crown glass and lanthanum flint glass .
[0002]
[Prior art]
Since the glass components PbO and As 2 O 3 have become a hot topic as environmental pollutants, optical equipment manufacturers do not contain PbO, and more preferably do not contain As 2 O 3. There is a need for glasses with specific properties.
In general, simply replacing lead oxide with one or more components will affect the optical and glass technical properties of PbO, so in general it is not possible to reproduce a glass with such desired properties. Can not. Therefore, instead, it is necessary to develop a new glass composition, or at least make extensive changes.
[0003]
Various specifications have already been shown in the following patent documents, and lead-free glasses having optical values in the above range or a range close thereto are described. However, these glasses have various drawbacks.
[0004]
German Patent Application Publication No. 061976 describes a basic glass consisting of the B 2 O 3 —SiO 2 —La 2 O 3 system with a high La 2 O 3 content, and aluminum oxide and / or to the basic glass. When yttrium oxide and metal oxide, especially alkaline earth metal oxide, zirconium oxide, zinc oxide and / or cadmium oxide added glass or Al 2 O 3 and Y 2 O 3 and other additives are optionally present Only glass with a low B 2 O 3 content is described. These glasses are very expensive due to these components and are difficult to melt or have inadequate devitrification stability.
[0005]
British Patent No. 1136239 describes an electroluminescent lamp containing a glass composed of a rare earth oxide, a glass-forming oxide and a divalent metal oxide in which a phosphorus compound is embedded. The possible components, including other additives, and their weight percentages vary within a very wide range. Such glasses do not meet the requirements of optical glass.
[0006]
JP 55-121925 describes a dense lanthanum flint glass, i.e. a glass having a high refractive index and a low Abbe number. This glass contains ZnO and SrO and / or BaO as divalent metal oxides. Contains. Furthermore, it contains MgO and a small amount of CaO as possible additives. SiO 2 is also contained as a simple optional component. These glasses have optical aspects different from the requirements as described above, and similarly do not show good devitrification stability.
[0007]
German Patent No. 2265703 discloses an optical glass composed of a B 2 O 3 —Gd 2 O 3 —La 2 O 3 system. In order to stabilize against devitrification, at least 2 wt.% Up to 50 wt.% Gd 2 O 3 is required. The glass is even more expensive due to the large amount of this expensive component.
JP-A-62-100449 discloses a glass requiring up to 2 % by weight of Sb 2 O 3 . When this component is used in such amounts, more care is needed to ensure the safety of the manufacturer during manufacture and the transmission of the glass is significantly reduced. Since glass further contains Li 2 O as an essential component, the devitrification tendency of the glass increases.
[0008]
Similarly, the glass described in JP-A-60-221338 also contains Li 2 O as an essential component. In addition, in order to improve the refractive index, up to 20% by weight of a very expensive component Y 2 O 3 is contained as an essential component in addition to La 2 O 3 . The ZnO-rich glass described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 54-6243 also contains Y 2 O 3 .
The glass described in JP-A-53-4023 contains HfO 2 as an essential component. This component is used to replace La 2 O 3 but makes the glass even more expensive.
[0009]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The object of the present invention is to have a lead-free lanthanum crown glass having a refractive index n d of 1.66 to 1.76 and an Abbe number ν d of 46 to 57, which has good melting and processing properties and can be produced at low cost. To find lantern flint glass. A further object of the present invention is to provide a lead-free lanthanum crown glass and a lanthanum flint glass that satisfy the requirement for sufficient crystallization stability.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to the present invention, in order to achieve the above object , the following components SiO 2 1 to 9 wt%, B 2 O 3 29 to 43.5 wt% in the following quantitative ratios based on oxides:
La 2 O 3 27 to 40% by weight, CaO 5.5 to 10% by weight,
SrO 0-3.5 wt%, MgO 0-4.5 wt%,
ZnO 3.5 to 10 wt%, TiO 2 0.1 to 3.5 wt%,
ZrO 2 3.5-9% by weight,
Unleaded lanthanum crown glass and lanthanum flint glass having an Abbe number [nu d of a refractive index n d and 46-57 of 1.66 to 1.76, characterized by containing is provided. The lead-free lanthanum crown glass and lanthanum flint glass of the present invention can contain a conventional amount of fining agent as required.
[0011]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The glass of the present invention contains 29-43.5% by weight (preferably up to 43% by weight) of glass former B 2 O 3 . At higher B 2 O 3 contents, the chemical resistance is impaired. However, since the minimum B 2 O 3 content is high, the content of the glass forming agent SiO 2 can be limited to 1 to 9% by weight. By limiting the SiO 2 content to be low in this way, firstly, a good effect can be exerted on the melting characteristics of the batch. That is, the melting point is lowered and the melting time is shortened. Second, a relatively large amount of lanthanum oxide can be easily introduced.
The glass of the present invention contains 27 to 40% by weight (preferably 29 to 40% by weight) of La 2 O 3 . In this range, desired optical characteristics, particularly a high refractive index can be obtained at the same time as an appropriate Abbe number. La 2 O 3 increases the transmittance of the glass and increases the crystallization stability of the glass. If the La 2 O 3 content is further increased beyond the above range, the refractive index n d and the Abbe number ν d become different, and the production cost of the batch is unnecessarily increased.
[0012]
The glass of the present invention comprises 0.1 to 3.5 wt% (preferably 0.1 to 3 wt%) TiO 2 and 3.5 to 9 wt% (preferably 4 to 9 wt%) ZrO 2 . contains. At the minimum content of these components, these two components improve chemical resistance. Thus, these components not only make it easier to increase the B 2 O 3 content as described above, but surprisingly result in an improvement over conventional lead-containing glasses having the same optical properties. In addition, the glass is imparted with alkali resistance and acid resistance.
The glass of the present invention contains 3.5 to 10% by weight (preferably 4 to 10% by weight) of ZnO. At the minimum content of ZnO, the color resistance is improved and the tendency to devitrification is reduced.
[0013]
If the TiO 2 , ZrO 2 and ZnO content increases above their respective maximum values, it initially works well on the devitrification properties, ie further improves the devitrification stability, however, the batch melting It will adversely affect the characteristics.
Instead, the glass of the present invention contains 5.5 to 10 wt.% CaO (preferably 5.5 to 9.5 wt.%) In order to obtain high devitrification stability substantially independent of melting properties. ) Content. If the CaO content is lower than the above range, the devitrification stability of the glass will be reduced, whereas if it is higher than the above range, the chemical resistance will be reduced.
In order to further improve the devitrification stability, the glass of the present invention is made up to 3.5% (preferably up to 3%) SrO and up to 4.5% (preferably up to 4%) MgO. It may contain. If the respective maximum content is exceeded, chemical resistance will be impaired.
[0014]
In a particular embodiment of the invention, the lanthanum crown glass and lanthanum flint glass do not contain SrO or MgO. These glasses contain relatively small amounts (up to 6% by weight) ZnO and relatively small amounts (up to 7.5% by weight) CaO and at least 35% by weight La 2 O 3 .
Therefore, these glasses preferably have the following composition SiO 2 1-9 wt%, B 2 O 3 29-43 wt% based on oxides,
La 2 O 3 35-40% by weight, CaO 5.5-7.5% by weight,
ZnO 4 to 6 wt%, TiO 2 0.1 to 3 wt%,
4-9% by weight of ZrO 2
And a refractive index n d of 1.69 to 1.76 and an Abbe number ν d of 46 to 54.
[0015]
In another particular embodiment of the invention, the glass of the invention contains SrO and / or MgO, more specifically, SrO + MgO in a total amount of at least 0.1% by weight. These glasses are advantageous in that they have somewhat improved devitrification stability and lower density than glasses that do not contain MgO and / or SrO.
Among this group of glasses, glasses containing a first group of SrO and no MgO represent a particular embodiment of the present invention. These glasses do not contain SrO, which will be described later, and are different from glasses containing MgO in that they have a lower density and a lower coefficient of thermal expansion, and preferably have the following composition on an oxide basis.
SiO 2 2.5 to 4.5 wt% (preferably 2.5 to 4 wt%),
B 2 O 3 35 (preferably> 35) to 42% by weight (preferably 37 to 40% by weight),
La 2 O 3 31 to 40% by weight (preferably 32 to 38% by weight),
CaO 6-8% by weight (preferably 7-8% by weight),
SrO 0.1-2% by weight (preferably 0.5-1.5% by weight),
ZnO 4.5-7.5 wt% (preferably 5-7 wt%),
TiO 2 0.5 to 2.5% by weight (preferably 1 to 2.5% by weight),
ZrO 2 5-9 wt% (preferably 6-7 wt%)
These glasses have a refractive index n d of 1.69 to 1.75 and an Abbe number ν d of 48 to 54. The optical data of the glass having a preferred composition are 1.70 ≦ refractive index n d ≦ 1.72 and 48 ≦ Abbe number ν d ≦ 51.
[0016]
The second group of glasses containing MgO and no SrO represents another specific embodiment of the present invention. These glasses preferably have the following composition on an oxide basis:
SiO 2 5 (preferably> 5% by weight) to 7.5% by weight,
B 2 O 3 30-39% by weight,
La 2 O 3 30-39% by weight,
CaO 6-8% by weight,
MgO 1-3% by weight,
ZnO 6-9% by weight,
TiO 2 0.5-2.5% by weight,
ZrO 2 5-8% by weight,
These glasses have a refractive index n d of 1.69 to 1.75 and an Abbe number ν d of 48 to 54.
[0017]
Within the composition range specified in the basic aspect of the present invention, there are two preferred glass groups with different TiO 2 contents.
The first group is MgO-containing glasses having a high TiO 2 content within the specified range, ie glasses having the following composition on an oxide basis.
SiO 2 3.5 to 4.5 wt%, B 2 O 3 41 to 43 wt%,
La 2 O 3 27 to 31 wt%, CaO 8 to 10 wt%
MgO 3.5-4.5 wt%, ZnO 3.5-4.5 wt%,
TiO 2 2.5 to 3.5 wt%, ZrO 2 3.5 to 4.5 weight%
These glasses have a refractive index n d of 1.68 to 1.70 and an Abbe number ν d of 49 to 51.
[0018]
The second group of glasses are MgO and SrO containing glasses with low TiO 2 content. These glasses have the following composition based on oxides: SiO 2 3.5 to 4.5% by weight, B 2 O 3 41 to 43% by weight,
La 2 O 3 27 to 31% by weight, CaO 8.5 to 9.5% by weight,
SrO 2.5-3.5 wt%, MgO 3.5-4.5 wt%,
ZnO 3.5 to 4.5 wt%, TiO 2 0.1 to 1 wt%,
ZrO 2 3.5-4.5% by weight,
A lead-free lanthanum crown glass having an Abbe number ν d of 54 to 56 and a refractive index n d of 1.66 to 1.69.
[0019]
In order to improve the glass quality, one or more fining agents known per se can be added to the batch in conventional amounts in order to clarify the glass. This gives a glass with particularly good internal quality free of bubbles and streaks.
If the fining agent used is not As 2 O 3 and instead can be added without compromising the glass quality, for example when Sb 2 O 3 is used, preferably in an amount of up to 0.3% by weight, the present invention This lead-free glass further does not contain arsenic.
[0020]
【The invention's effect】
The present invention provides a glass having desired optical characteristics and containing no alkali metal oxide, BaO, Al 2 O 3 , Nb 2 O 5 , Y 2 O 3 and Ta 2 O 3 except for ordinary impurities. It is to provide. The glasses of the present invention have various advantages, such as good melting properties and crystallization stability and low glass production costs.
The novel glass of the present invention does not contain PbO and, in a preferred embodiment, does not contain As 2 O 3 . Therefore, compared with the conventional PbO containing glass which has the same optical characteristic, the temperature range which can process glass is wide.
[0021]
The glass of the present invention has high chemical resistance, particularly very high alkali resistance. Thus, compared to a conventional PbO-containing glass having the same optical properties, the glass of the present invention has improved acid resistance (eg, the acid resistance class of PbO-containing glass is 52.3 versus Example 8). The glass (see Examples and Table 2) has an acid resistance class of 52.0) and an improved alkali resistance (for example, the alkali resistance class of PbO-containing glasses is 1.2). The alkali resistance class of the glass of Example 8 is 1.0). The high chemical resistance of the glass is important for further mechanical processing such as grinding and polishing.
[0022]
The glass of the present invention has high crystallization stability. This high crystallization stability makes it possible to manufacture in a relatively large dissolution apparatus, for example an optical tank.
A measure of crystallization stability is the upper limit of devitrification limit or the viscosity at this temperature. For continuous production, it should be 1000 dPas or higher. The novel glass of the present invention meets this requirement.
The glass of the present invention is easy to melt and process. The density of the glass of the present invention is 4.0 g / cm 3 or less and is relatively low.
[0023]
【Example】
EXAMPLES Hereinafter, although an Example is shown and this invention is demonstrated further more concretely, it cannot be overemphasized that this invention is not limited to the following Example.
[0024]
Examples 1-8
The novel glasses of the eight examples of the present invention within the preferred composition range were produced from conventional raw materials.
Table 1 shows one of the dissolution examples (Example 1 in Table 2).
[Table 1]
[0025]
Table 2 shows the composition of each of the produced glasses (expressed in% by weight based on oxide), refractive index n d , Abbe number ν d , density ρ [g / cm 3 ], thermal expansion coefficient α 20. / 300 [10 −6 / K] and glass transition temperature Tg [° C.].
[Table 2]
[0026]
The glass of the present invention was produced as follows. That is, raw materials for oxides, preferably carbonates and nitrates, were weighed, and clarifier Sb 2 O 3 was added thereto and stirred well. The glass batch was melted at about 1200-1360 ° C. and then clarified and fully homogenized. The glass was molded to the desired dimensions at a casting temperature of 1,000 to 1,080 ° C.
