【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 62-106826 describes a technique for purifying NOx (nitrogen oxide) discharged from an internal combustion engine. When NOx is oxidized and absorbed by a catalyst, O2 (oxygen) is contained in the exhaust gas. ) And the NOx absorption efficiency of the catalyst is reduced, the exhaust gas is prevented from passing through the catalyst, and a gaseous reducing agent such as H2 (hydrogen) is supplied to the catalyst. The absorbed NOx is desorbed and purified.
[0003]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 6-307232 describes a technique related to the SOx poisoning recovery processing of the NOx absorbent. When the NOx absorption amount of the NOx absorbent increases, the exhaust air-fuel ratio of the engine is made rich and the NOx is increased. NOx is released from the absorbent and reduced and purified. When the amount of SOx absorbed by the NOx absorbent increases, the exhaust air-fuel ratio of the engine is made rich and H2 is supplied to the NOx absorbent at a relatively low exhaust temperature. SOx poisoning of NOx absorbent is eliminated.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the conventional technique has the following problems.
In the technology described in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 62-106826, when regenerating a catalyst for absorbing NOx, it is necessary to shut off exhaust gas flowing into the catalyst. Since a catalyst is required, there is a problem that the cost is high, and the system is enlarged, so that the mounting property on a vehicle is deteriorated.
[0005]
In the technique described in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 6-307232, when the NOx absorbent is regenerated, the exhaust air / fuel ratio of the engine is enriched and H2 as a reducing agent is supplied. Requires a large amount of H2 supply.
According to the experiments of the present inventors, as shown in FIG. 12, as a method of supplying a reducing agent when reducing NOx and SOx, in addition to H2 alone, HC, It has been confirmed that the efficiency of NOx desorption purification in the case of reduction in the presence of CO is greatly deteriorated, and it is clear that a larger amount of H2 needs to be supplied due to the decrease in the NOx desorption purification rate. It has become.
[0006]
Therefore, H2 can be supplied by a storage container or a generator, but in order to supply a large amount of H2, it is necessary to increase the size of the storage container or the generator, resulting in a problem that the mountability deteriorates. there were.
In recent years, the fuel efficiency of internal combustion engines has been greatly improved by lean combustion by direct injection in a cylinder, and the exhaust temperature tends to decrease accordingly. As the efficiency is further improved in the future, the exhaust temperature is expected to further decrease, and it is considered difficult to keep the catalyst always active. As for the NOx trap catalyst, the NOx desorption / purification rate decreases more than the NOx trap rate that decreases as the exhaust temperature decreases, so that when the exhaust temperature decreases, a larger amount of reducing agent is supplied to the NOx trap catalyst. It is thought that it is necessary to do.
[0007]
In view of such conventional problems, the present invention can trap NOx discharged from an internal combustion engine in an oxidizing atmosphere in the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine, and desorb and purify NOx trapped in a reducing atmosphere. An object of the present invention is to provide an exhaust gas purification apparatus for an internal combustion engine that can efficiently desorb and purify NOx trapped in the NOx trap catalyst by using H2 as a reducing agent when the NOx trap catalyst is provided. To do.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
For this reason, according to the first aspect of the present invention, in the exhaust gas purification apparatus for an internal combustion engine, which is provided with an NOx trap catalyst in the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine and is provided with H2 supply means capable of supplying H2 thereto, the NOx trap catalyst is trapped by the NOx trap catalyst. When desorbing and purifying NOx, the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is maintained at a substantially stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, and H2 is supplied to the NOx trap catalyst by the H2 supply means.
[0009]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, when NOx trapped in the NOx trap catalyst is desorbed and purified, the H2 supply means is maintained after a predetermined period of time has elapsed after the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is maintained at a substantially stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. Thus, H2 is supplied to the NOx trap catalyst.
In the invention of claim 3, when desorbing and purifying NOx trapped in the NOx trap catalyst, the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is temporarily set to a rich air-fuel ratio, and then held at a substantially stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, H2 is supplied to the NOx trap catalyst by the H2 supply means.
[0010]
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, there is provided means for directly or indirectly detecting the temperature of the NOx trap catalyst (measuring or estimating the catalyst temperature, or detecting it by replacing with the exhaust temperature), and trapping the NOx trap catalyst. When the catalyst temperature is less than a predetermined value when desorbing and purifying NOx, the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is maintained at a substantially stoichiometric air-fuel ratio and H2 is supplied to the NOx trap catalyst by the H2 supply means. When the catalyst temperature is higher than a predetermined value, the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is set to a rich air-fuel ratio, and H2 is not supplied by the H2 supply means.
[0011]
The invention of
[0012]
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, in the first to fourth aspects of the invention, the H2 supply means uses the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine and fuel as reforming raw materials during lean combustion in which NOx is trapped in the NOx trap catalyst. The reformer includes a reformer that generates H2, and a storage container that temporarily stores the generated H2. And when desorbing and purifying NOx trapped in the NOx trap catalyst, when H2 is supplied to the NOx trap catalyst by the H2 supply means, H2 in the storage container is supplied. .
[0013]
【The invention's effect】
According to the first aspect of the present invention, when NOx trapped in the NOx trap catalyst is desorbed and purified, H2 is supplied to the NOx trap catalyst in a state where the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is maintained at a substantially stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. Therefore, since there is no surplus O2 in the exhaust gas, H2 as a reducing agent is not consumed by O2, and since H2 is supplied alone as a reducing agent, the reduction efficiency of H2 is good, and therefore extra H2 There is no need to supply. Further, since the reducing power of H2 is strong, the trapped NOx can be desorbed and purified even in a low exhaust temperature state. Therefore, NOx can be desorbed and purified by H2 even at a low exhaust temperature of the internal combustion engine, and the coexistence of H2 and HC and CO can be greatly suppressed, so that NOx desorption purification by H2 can be performed efficiently, The consumption of H2 can be suppressed.

According to the second aspect of the present invention, when desorbing and purifying NOx trapped in the NOx trap catalyst, the NOx trap catalyst is maintained after a predetermined period of time has elapsed after the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is maintained at a substantially stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. Since H2 is supplied to the NOx trap catalyst, O2 stored in the NOx trap catalyst is consumed by oxidation of HC and CO discharged in a small amount from the internal combustion engine, and then H2 is supplied. Furthermore, the consumption of H2 can be suppressed.
[0015]
According to the third aspect of the present invention, when NOx trapped in the NOx trap catalyst is desorbed and purified, the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is once changed to a rich air-fuel ratio, and then maintained at a substantially stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. Since H2 is supplied to the NOx trap catalyst in the state, O2 stored in the NOx trap catalyst is consumed by oxidation of HC and CO discharged from the internal combustion engine, and then H2 is supplied. Compared to the invention, the consumption of H2 can be further suppressed. Further, since the air-fuel ratio is set to the rich air-fuel ratio during the O2 storage discharge period, the O2 storage can be released in a shorter time than the invention of
[0016]
According to the fourth aspect of the present invention, when NOx trapped in the NOx trap catalyst is desorbed and purified, if the catalyst temperature is less than a predetermined value, the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is maintained at a substantially stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. By supplying H2 to the NOx trap catalyst in this state, NOx desorption can be purified from a low exhaust temperature. On the other hand, when the catalyst temperature is equal to or higher than a predetermined value, the air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine is set to a rich air-fuel ratio, NOx is desorbed and purified using HC and CO as reducing agents, and H2 is not supplied. Can be reduced. Thus, by desorbing and purifying NOx with H2 only at a low exhaust temperature of the internal combustion engine, the consumption amount of H2 can be further suppressed as compared with the first aspect of the invention.
[0017]
According to the invention of
[0018]
According to the sixth aspect of the present invention, during the lean combustion in which NOx is trapped in the NOx trap catalyst, the reformer generates H2 using the exhaust gas and fuel from the internal combustion engine as reforming raw materials, and the generated H2 Is temporarily stored in a storage container, and when NOx trapped in the NOx trap catalyst is desorbed and purified, H2 in the storage container is supplied, so that NOx is not supplied from the outside without supplying H2. Can be removed and purified. Therefore, it is possible to efficiently generate H2 and desorb and purify NOx by this, and it is possible to desorb and purify NOx by H2 even at a low exhaust temperature of the internal combustion engine, and at the same time, H2 and HC, CO Coexistence with NO can be significantly suppressed, so that NOx desorption purification with H2 can be performed efficiently, and the consumption of reforming fuel can also be suppressed.
