Description
【0001】
TCP(Tape
Carrier Package)
C=(T1 −T0 )/(L/kA)
【0038】
C= 775/(0.02/0.0003)=775/66.6=11.7
となる。
【0039】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device and an apparatus for manufacturing the same, and more particularly to processing of corner portions of an outer peripheral edge of a liquid crystal display panel.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In general, a liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel composed of a pair of glass substrates facing each other across a liquid crystal, and a driver IC that performs display control of the liquid crystal display panel.
[0003]
A liquid crystal display panel, which is a main component of this liquid crystal display device, injects liquid crystal into a pair of opposed glass substrates on which input electrodes for inputting control signals are formed, and an external driver IC is applied to the input electrodes. The information is displayed by controlling the amount of transmitted light by controlling the polarization component of the incident light from the outside by adding an electrical signal.
[0004]
Such a liquid crystal display panel is often manufactured by taking a large number of large glass substrates in order to be advantageous in terms of cost.
As a manufacturing method of this type, first, a display circuit composed of a transparent electrode or the like is formed on a large pair of glass substrates, a pair of opposing glass substrates are bonded together, and then a plurality of liquid crystal display panels are manufactured by dividing. There are two types of cases: a case where the glass substrate is divided during the formation of the display circuit, and then the glass substrate is bonded.
[0005]
In order to simplify the inspection mainly on small-sized models, there is also a method in which liquid crystal is injected in a state where a plurality of liquid crystal panels are connected and divided into individual liquid crystal display panels after the inspection.
[0006]
In any case, the glass substrate is divided by scribing the surface of the glass (scratches with a depth of several tens to several hundreds μm) using a super steel alloy or diamond cutter, and then applying the glass by physical stress. Divide.
In the case of such a dividing method, a minute crack or chipping caused by scribe, that is, a crack is generated in the section. Further, in many cases, the cut section in a cut state stands at an acute angle.
[0007]
In this state, when the glass substrate is cut and no treatment is performed, the glass substrate has a structurally fragile cross section. There are problems such as (caret).
In addition, a display control circuit equipped with an external driver IC or the like is connected to a TCP (Tape
In the case of connecting to an input electrode of a glass substrate with a film-like substrate such as Carrier Package), there is a problem that cutting is likely to occur at the corner of the outer peripheral edge including the dividing surface.
[0008]
In addition, when the cullet is generated, the cullet may enter the display area of the liquid crystal display device to lower the display quality, or may cause a contact failure when the display control circuit is attached to the input electrode of the glass substrate.
[0009]
For this reason, the corners of the outer peripheral edge of the liquid crystal display panel are usually chamfered to remove cracks and sharp corners. As this chamfering method, grinding with a grindstone is conventionally known and widely practiced.
In addition to polishing with a grindstone, a method has also been proposed in which heat treatment is performed with a laser beam to melt and eliminate cracks generated at the corners of the outer peripheral edge (see, for example, JP-A-10-111497).
[0010]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the case of chamfering with a grindstone, cullet is generated as a result of polishing the glass, so that cleaning in a subsequent process is necessary for its removal.
Further, since cutting water is required for polishing, the display circuit surface is contaminated by this cutting water.
For this reason, it is difficult to chamfer the glass substrate before bonding and the liquid crystal display panel before liquid crystal injection that must avoid contamination as much as possible, immediately after cutting the glass substrate, which is the most effective in preventing cracks and cullet. The chamfer could not be carried out.
[0011]
In addition, it has been difficult to chamfer the corners of the outer peripheral edge of the glass substrate located above the input electrodes of the liquid crystal display panel by chamfering with a grindstone.
For this reason, it was not possible to prevent the occurrence of cracks and cullet from this portion, and only an insufficient prevention effect was obtained.
[0012]
Also, in the method of using a laser beam as the heat source to melt and extinguish cracks at the corners of the outer edge, when the irradiated laser light is refracted when passing through the glass surface and hits the display circuit in the substrate, display There was a possibility that the circuit would be destroyed and cause display defects.
[0013]
The present invention has been made in consideration of the above circumstances, and can chamfer all corners of the outer peripheral edge of the glass substrate immediately after cutting the glass substrate without contaminating the glass substrate. The present invention provides a method for chamfering a glass substrate of a liquid crystal display device that does not damage a display circuit or the like provided in the apparatus and a heater used in the method.
[0014]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device composed of glass substrates facing each other across a liquid crystal, and a pair of glass substrates on which a plurality of display circuits corresponding to the plurality of liquid crystal display devices are formed are bonded using a resin, A heater is brought into contact with a corner portion of the outer peripheral edge of a glass substrate of a liquid crystal display device in the process of being obtained by dividing into regions corresponding to the liquid crystal display device, and the corner portion is heated and melted to be chamfered. A method for chamfering a glass substrate of a liquid crystal display device and a heater used for the method are provided.
[0015]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In this invention, as a glass substrate, what consists of borosilicate glass, soda lime glass, low alkali glass, non-alkali glass, silica glass etc. can be used, for example.
[0016]
As the liquid crystal sandwiched (injected) between the opposing glass substrates, known liquid crystals such as smectic liquid crystals and nematic liquid crystals can be widely used, and are not particularly limited.
[0017]
When melting and chamfering the corner portion of the outer peripheral edge of the glass substrate, the heater heats the corner portion to a temperature higher than the strain point temperature of the glass substrate and lower than the softening temperature.
By heating the corner portion of the outer peripheral edge of the glass substrate to such a temperature, surface flow is generated at the corner portion and chamfering is performed.
For example, when borosilicate glass is used for the glass substrate, a suitable heating temperature is about 650 ° C to 800 ° C.
[0018]
The heater used for the chamfering method of the liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes an elongated heat conductor and a heat source provided on the heat conductor, and corresponds to a corner of the outer peripheral edge of the glass substrate at the tip of the heat conductor. A groove may be formed.
[0019]
The grooves of the heat conductor are formed in order to melt and chamfer the corners of the glass substrate along the shape of the grooves.
In addition, when the width of the heater is shorter than the length of the outer peripheral edge of the glass substrate, it is necessary to move the heater along the corner while contacting the outer peripheral edge. It also serves as a guide when moving.
For this reason, although the shape of the groove | channel of a heat conductor is not specifically limited, For example, U shape, V shape, etc. can be mentioned.
[0020]
For example, when the shape of the groove of the heat conductor is U-shaped, the cross-section of the outer peripheral edge of the chamfered glass substrate can be arc-shaped or semicircular (hereinafter referred to as R-shape in this specification).
[0021]
A heating wire or a hydrogen gas burner can be used as a heat source of the heater. The hydrogen gas burner can be composed of a hydrogen gas supply nozzle, an oxygen gas supply nozzle, and an exhaust pipe.
Since these heat sources do not pollute the surrounding atmosphere, they are suitable for use in a liquid crystal display device manufacturing factory where contamination must be avoided as much as possible.
[0022]
Moreover, in this invention, when manufacturing a some liquid crystal display panel by dividing a large glass substrate and taking many, a glass substrate can also be chamfered using the said heater immediately after dividing | segmenting.
If it does in this way, it will become possible to prevent that a crack arises from the corner | angular part of the outer periphery edge of a glass substrate at a subsequent process, Therefore The chamfering timing of a glass substrate in the manufacturing process of a liquid crystal display device is the most preferable.
[0023]
The chamfering can be performed at the above timing because the chamfering method according to the present invention does not contaminate the glass substrate during chamfering, unlike the conventional chamfering method using a grindstone. Further, since the glass substrate is not contaminated, a cleaning process after chamfering is not necessary.
[0024]
Furthermore, since the chamfering is performed by heating the heater directly in contact with the corner of the outer peripheral edge of the glass substrate, the display circuit formed on the glass substrate is damaged as in the conventional chamfering method using laser light. I don't give it.
