BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a scanning optical apparatus that is used in an image recording apparatus using an electrophotographic system and used to form an electrostatic latent image by scanning a laser beam on an image carrier.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The electrostatic latent image on the image carrier is visualized by a developing toner into a visible image, and this image has a higher resolution, that is, the number of dots indicating the number of focused laser beams per unit area. As the number of (dpi, dots / inch) increases, a smooth beautiful image with less jagged lines in the oblique direction of the image can be obtained.
[0003]
In order to increase the resolution in order to obtain such a beautiful image, conventionally, the rotational speed of the rotary polygon mirror (polygon mirror) is increased and the linear velocity in the sub-scanning direction of the image carrier such as the photosensitive drum is increased. By reducing the size, the pitch interval between adjacent dots in the sub-scanning direction can be reduced to increase the resolution.
[0004]
However, if the linear velocity in the sub-scanning direction of the image carrier has to be increased due to the demand for speeding up the image forming operation for the image recording apparatus, the rotational speed of the rotary polygon mirror must be significantly increased accordingly. No longer. As a result, the rotational speed of the drive motor of the rotating polygon mirror must be significantly increased, which shortens the life of the drive motor and causes high-frequency wind noise caused by the high-speed rotation of the rotating polygon mirror to generate noise. The problem of generating it comes out.
[0005]
In order to solve such problems, conventionally, a scanning optical device having a laser unit for emitting a plurality of laser beams has been proposed (Japanese Patent Laid-Open Nos. 9-33834 and 59-15216). . According to such a scanning optical device, since a plurality of laser light beams are emitted, a plurality of dots can be scanned at the same time in one scanning at intervals in the sub-scanning direction of the image carrier. Even if the rotational speed of the polygon mirror is kept as it is, the scanning speed can be increased several times. For this reason, it is possible to shorten the life of the drive motor and to prevent the generation of noise due to the rotation of the rotary polygon mirror.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, in a scanning optical apparatus having a laser unit that emits a plurality of laser light beams as described above, in order to form a clear image without image blurring or positional deviation, When focusing a plurality of laser beams separated in the scanning direction, the relative distance in the main scanning direction between the plurality of dots is required to be as close to zero as possible.
[0007]
However, in the scanning optical device according to the above publication, the relative distance in the main scanning direction between the plurality of dots is zero as much as possible when focusing the plurality of laser beams separated in the sub scanning direction on the image carrier. Means for achieving closeness are not specifically shown. For this reason, even if an attempt is made to form a clear image by increasing the resolution without increasing the rotational speed of the rotary polygon mirror, the image forming apparatus can eventually form a clear image free from image blur and misalignment. It may not be possible.
[0008]
In addition, the relative distance in the main scanning direction between the plurality of dots can be as close to zero as possible without using optical or mechanical means, but using optical or mechanical means, If this is to be realized, various optical problems will occur, and there is a possibility that a clear image cannot be formed by the image forming apparatus.
[0009]
Accordingly, in view of the above problems, the present invention can increase the resolution of an image without significantly increasing the rotational speed of the rotary polygon mirror, and can be clearly and clearly displayed by the image forming apparatus without causing any optical problem. It is an object of the present invention to provide a scanning optical device capable of forming a clear image.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problems, the present invention provides:
A laser unit that emits two laser light beams based on image data can be used to scan two laser light beams that form dots forming an electrostatic latent image on the image carrier, In the scanning optical device capable of arbitrarily changing the pitch interval in the sub-scanning direction between,
The two laser beams are received immediately before scanning on the image carrier to detect the position of each of the two laser beams in the main scanning direction, and are detected when one of the two laser beams is received. A light beam position detecting means for turning the waveform from off to on (or from on to off) ,
An on (or off) end of a detection waveform when the light beam position detecting means receives both of the two laser light beams in a lighted state;
An on (or off) end of a detected waveform when the light beam position detecting means receives only the preceding laser light beam of the two laser light beams.
A dot relative distance measuring means for measuring a shift between the two laser beams as a relative distance in the main scanning direction between the dots of the laser beam ;
And a dot relative distance zero correcting unit that corrects the relative distance in the main scanning direction between the dots of the two laser beams measured by the dot relative distance measuring unit to zero. .
[0011]
According to the scanning optical apparatus having such a configuration, the pitch interval in the sub-scanning direction between the dots of the plurality of laser light beams can be arbitrarily changed, so that the image can be obtained without significantly increasing the rotational speed of the rotary polygon mirror. The resolution of the image can be increased, and a smooth and beautiful image with little jagged lines in the oblique direction of the image can be formed.
[0012]
In addition, the dot relative distance measuring unit measures the relative distance in the main scanning direction between the dots of the laser beam, and the dot relative distance zero correcting unit is configured to measure the dot relative distance between the dots of the plurality of laser beams measured by the dot relative distance measuring unit. By correcting so that the relative distance in the main scanning direction between them is zero, the relative distance in the main scanning direction between the dots of multiple laser beams is as close to zero as possible without using optical or mechanical means. Therefore, it is possible to reliably form a clear image with no image blur or misalignment by the image forming apparatus without causing an optical problem.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be specifically described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 to FIG. 12 are diagrams which are referred to for describing a first embodiment of a scanning optical device according to the present invention.
[0014]
FIG. 1 is a diagram showing a scanning optical device according to the first embodiment of the present invention. In this scanning optical device, the two laser light beams L1 and L2 emitted from the two-

[0020]
For this reason, as shown in FIG. 4B, the positions of the two dots D1, D2 on the scanning lines S1, S2 coincide with each other in the main scanning direction, and as a result, the positions of the dots D1, D2 are the main positions. Only the interval in the sub-scanning direction can be shortened to half without shifting in the scanning direction. The delay circuit 9 may be any circuit that can delay the image data to the two-

As described above, in FIG. 4A, the delay of the dot D2 by (√3 / 2) t from the dot D1 by (√3 / 2) t is caused to delay the image data V1 to the two-

That is, measure how much the relative distance can be brought close to zero in practice, and if necessary based on the measured value, correct the delay amount (time) with an electrical signal and then perform delay control again. By doing so, the relative distance can be surely brought close to zero. In this sense, it is important to measure whether the phase shift can be brought close to zero, and is indispensable for forming a clear image free from image blur and positional shift.
[0023]
[First embodiment]
A first embodiment for measuring how much the relative distance in the main scanning direction between the dots D1 and D2 can actually be reduced to zero will be specifically described below. This embodiment corresponds to claim 1 of the appended claims.

For example, in the scanning optical device shown in FIG. 1, since the two-

To measure the deviation of the laser beams L1 and L2 in the main scanning direction at this time, two measurement operations are performed. First, as a first measurement operation, as shown in FIG. 7 (d), both the laser beams L1 and L2 are turned on before being received by the

The deviation K1 at the fall (from ON to OFF) of each of the two waveforms W3 and W4, which is the difference between the times measured in the first measurement operation and the second measurement operation, is a laser beam. It can be seen that this is the time of displacement in the main scanning direction between L1 and L2. The first and second measurement operations for obtaining the deviation K1 and the comparison operation of the measurement results are operations as a dot relative distance measuring unit.
[0030]
For example, the time is measured by a counter operating with a high-speed clock. The counter may be started at the measurement start timing and stopped at the measurement end timing. At this time, the minimum unit of the measurement time is one cycle of the high-speed clock.
[0031]
Therefore, if the time for transferring the image data V1 to the two-

[Second embodiment]
Next, a second embodiment for measuring the relative distance between the laser beams L1 and L2 in the main scanning direction will be described. The second embodiment does not directly correspond to the description of the claims.
[0034]
As shown in FIG. 8A , this embodiment is applicable when the relative distance K between the laser beams L1 and L2 in the main scanning direction is a certain value or more. Therefore, in this case, as shown in FIG. 3, the laser beams L1 and L2 may not be emitted from one two-

[0039]
In order to measure the relative distance between the laser beams L1 and L2 in the main scanning direction in the present embodiment, two measurement operations are performed as in the first embodiment. First, as a first measurement operation, as shown in FIG. 11A, only the laser beam L1 of the scan line S1 for odd lines is turned on to raise the waveform W10. At this time, by passing through the two
[0040]
Next, as a second measurement operation, as shown in FIG. 11B, first, only the laser beam L1 of the scan line S1 for odd lines is turned on to raise the waveform W12 (ON), and the light is turned on. After the laser beam L1 reaches the
[0041]
There is a possibility that a temporary fall may occur in the middle of the first peak of the waveform W14, but the temporary fall is not counted, and the second fall from the rise of the first peak of the waveform W14. The time until the rise of the peak waveform W14 'is measured.
[0042]
A difference K3 between the first measurement time and the second measurement time measured in this way is a deviation in the main scanning direction between the measured light beams. Similar to the first embodiment, the difference K3 in the measurement result is used for delay control as the delay amount of the laser beam L1 of the odd line, thereby eliminating the relative distance in the main scanning direction between the laser beams L1 and L2. Both can be reliably matched in the same direction.

In the control in the above embodiment, the control operation is performed by turning the waveform from off to on. However, in such a control operation, the on and off can be switched.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, the pitch interval in the sub-scanning direction between dots of a plurality of laser light beams can be arbitrarily changed, so that an image can be obtained without significantly increasing the rotational speed of the rotary polygon mirror. The resolution of the image can be increased, and a smooth and beautiful image with little jagged lines in the oblique direction of the image can be formed.

By correcting the relative distance in the main scanning direction between them to be zero, the relative distance in the main scanning direction between the dots of a plurality of laser beams can be made as close to zero as possible. Therefore, it is possible to form a clear image free from image blur and positional deviation.
