h1 =√2a1 /tan α
h2 =a2 /(√2tan α)
【0024】
h3 =√2ma3 /tan α (mは2以上の数)

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a light directivity conversion element for converting the directivity of light, which is used for a backlight, lighting, or the like, and a planar light source device using the same.
[0002]

Conventionally, a liquid crystal display element is provided with a backlight. The backlight outputs substantially uniform planar light from a light guide plate provided on the lower surface of the liquid crystal. As shown in FIG. 10A, the backlight is configured by providing a

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In such a conventional backlight, the directivity is deviated in the negative direction of the X-axis as shown in FIG. 10C, but the liquid crystal display device generally spreads in the left-right direction to display a horizontally long image. It is preferable to have a configuration having directivity. That is, in consideration of usage, it is necessary to provide directivity evenly in the positive and negative directions of the Y axis as shown in FIGS. 12 (a) and 12 (b).
[0005]
In order to convert the directivity of light, a prism having the surface of a flat plate formed in a sawtooth shape as shown in FIG. 13A, or a lower surface of a transparent plate formed in a triangular wave shape as shown in FIG. The primary direction diffusion element described above, and a diffusion plate having random fine irregularities formed on the surface of a transparent flat plate as shown in FIG. 13C are used. When the prism is used, the directivity can be shifted in the X-axis direction, but cannot be spread in the Y-axis direction, as shown in FIG. Was. When the primary direction diffusing element is used, light can be diffused in the Y-axis direction as shown in FIG. 13E, but the directivity cannot be shifted in the X-axis direction. Further, the diffuser can broaden the directivity as a whole as shown in FIG. 13F, but cannot broaden the directivity in the Y-axis direction. When the diffusion plate is used as described above, light is diffused in all directions. Therefore, although light reaches a necessary area, there is a disadvantage that the amount of effective light is reduced.
[0006]
The light guide plate type surface light source device is expected to be used not only as the backlight of the liquid crystal display device described above but also as a lighting device in the future. In such a lighting device, a light directivity pattern concentrated near the center as shown in FIGS. 12C and 12D is desired in order to prevent a blare light and eliminate unnecessary loss on a wall surface. . However, when a diffusion plate is used, light is diffused uniformly, and there is a disadvantage that an effect of outputting light concentrated only near the center cannot be obtained. Further, even if a prism or a one-dimensional triangular light diffusing element is used, it is not possible to obtain directivity concentrated near the center.

Also, as shown in FIG. 4 (b), a groove 14 of 45 ° is formed obliquely in the X and Y planes, and a minute right-angle prism-like wall surface is formed on the negative side of X of each groove. Good. In this case as well, the light incident on the wall of the groove from below the light diffusion plate is reflected and emitted in the negative direction of the Y-axis if it is on the upper side of the wall, and the light incident on the lower side of the wall is further converted into a rectangular prism-shaped wall. And is emitted again in the positive Y-axis direction. Light having directivity in the positive direction of the X axis is reflected by the wall surface of the right-angle prism and is emitted in the negative direction of the X axis. In the case of FIG. 4C, the opposite is true. In any case, the directional characteristics shown in FIG. 3C can be obtained.
[0022]
In each of the examples shown in FIGS. 1, 4B and 4C, the wall surface of the right-angle prism can have a shape in which the pitch is increased only in one of the directions. In this case, the distribution ratio of the left and right lights can be changed.

In this embodiment, a lattice-like groove inclined at 45 ° from the X and Y axes is formed as a whole, but may be a square parallel to the X and Y axes, or a polygon or a circle. Good. Also in this case, a pattern of a closed curve having a minute size is formed uniformly on the surface of the transparent flat plate, and the waveform as shown in FIG. By doing so, a similar effect can be obtained.
[0029]
In each of the above-described embodiments, a groove having a constant depth is formed on the upper surface of the transparent flat plate, and the directivity of light is changed by the shape of the groove. The reflection plate having a low refractive index may be filled in a transparent flat plate in the same shape as the groove of each embodiment. In this case, such a reflection band may be provided over the entire transparent plate in the Z-axis direction. This makes it possible to make the transparent flat plate thin.
[0030]
In each of the above-described embodiments, light incident on the groove hardly becomes outgoing light, resulting in a loss. Therefore, in order to reduce the area of the entire groove, it is preferable to reduce the gap of the groove.
