前記イ草の畳表30は、裏張りシート31を貼着して耐久性畳を完成した後、シリコン樹脂、フッ素樹脂その他の材料を静電塗装により噴霧して撥水処理をしたり、抗菌剤や遠赤外線発生部材を塗布したりすることにより、汚れが付きにくく、かつ、カビ等の発生を防止し、仮に、汚れが付いたり、カビが発生しても容易に除去することができる。
また、経糸38を着色剤にてイ草の畳表30に近い色に着色したり、イ草37そのものをエバーグリーン処理を施すことにより変色を長期間防止できる。
