請求項9記載の発明は、前記画像形成手段は、前記記録媒体が前記定着手段を通過する際の前記負荷を用いて前記定着手段の異常を検知する際、前記記録媒体に画像を形成しない。
請求項9記載の発明によれば、記録媒体が定着手段を通過する際の負荷を用いて定着手段の異常を検知する際、記録媒体に画像を形成する場合と比較して、負荷を検知する際の定着動作に伴う定着不良を防止することができる。

Claims (10)
- 加圧手段と加熱手段とを含み、画像が形成された記録媒体を前記加圧手段と前記加熱手段とで挟むことにより前記画像を定着させる定着手段と、
前記定着手段を駆動する駆動手段と、
前記駆動手段の負荷を検出する負荷検出手段と、
前記記録媒体が前記定着手段を通過する際の前記負荷を用いて、前記定着手段の異常を検知する異常検知手段と、
を備えた定着装置。 - 前記異常検知手段は、前記定着手段の温度が、前記画像を定着させる際の定着温度よりも低い温度の場合における前記負荷を用いて、前記定着手段の異常の有無を検知する
請求項1記載の定着装置。 - 前記定着手段の温度を検出する温度検出手段を備え、
前記異常検知手段は、前記温度検出手段により検出された温度が、前記画像を定着させる際の定着温度よりも低い温度の場合に、前記定着手段に前記記録媒体を通過させて前記定着手段の異常の有無を検知する
請求項2記載の定着装置。 - 前記異常検知手段は、前記温度検出手段により検出された温度と前記記録媒体が前記定着手段を通過する際の前記負荷の変化との関係を用いて前記定着手段の異常の有無を検知する
請求項3記載の定着装置。 - 前記異常検知手段は、前記定着手段による定着が最後に実行されてから、前記定着手段の温度が前記画像を定着させる際の定着温度よりも低い温度となる期間が経過した場合に、前記記録媒体を前記定着手段に通過させて前記定着手段の異常の有無を検知する
請求項1又は請求項2記載の定着装置。 - 前記異常検知手段は、前記記録媒体が前記定着手段を通過する際の負荷として、前記記録媒体が前記定着手段に突入する際の突入期間及び前記記録媒体が前記定着手段から排出される際の排出期間を除いた前記記録媒体の通過期間の少なくとも一部の期間の負荷を用いて前記定着手段の異常の有無を検知する
請求項1〜5の何れか1項に記載の定着装置。 - 前記異常検知手段は、厚さの異なる複数の前記記録媒体のうち、最大の厚さの前記記録媒体を選択して前記定着手段に通過させることにより、前記定着手段の異常の有無を検知する
請求項1〜6の何れか1項に記載の定着装置。 - 記録媒体に画像を形成する画像形成手段と、
前記記録媒体に形成された画像を定着させる請求項1〜7の何れか1項記載の定着装置と、
を備えた画像形成装置。 - 前記画像形成手段は、前記記録媒体が前記定着手段を通過する際の前記負荷を用いて前記定着手段の異常を検知する際、前記記録媒体に画像を形成しない
請求項8記載の画像形成装置。 - 前記記録媒体の一方の面に形成された画像を前記定着装置により定着した後に、前記記録媒体の他方の面にも前記画像形成手段により画像が形成されるように前記記録媒体を搬送する搬送手段と、
前記定着手段の温度が前記画像を定着させる際の定着温度に到達する前に前記記録媒体を前記定着手段に通過させて、前記異常検知手段により前記定着手段の異常の有無が検知され、前記定着手段の温度が前記定着温度に到達した後に前記画像形成手段により前記記録媒体に画像が形成されるように前記搬送手段を制御する制御手段と、
を備えた請求項8又は請求項9記載の画像形成装置。
