Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a glass substrate manufacturing method and a manufacturing apparatus for manufacturing a glass substrate.
As a glass substrate (hereinafter referred to as “FPD glass substrate”) used in a flat panel display such as a liquid crystal display or a plasma display, a thin glass plate having a thickness of, for example, 0.5 to 0.7 mm is used. The glass substrate for FPD has a size of, for example, 300 × 400 mm in the first generation, but has a size of 2850 × 3050 mm in the tenth generation.
An overflow down draw method may be used to manufacture a glass substrate for FPD. In the overflow downdraw method, a step of forming a sheet glass (plate glass) below the formed body by causing the molten glass to overflow (overflow) from the upper part of the formed body in a forming furnace, and the sheet glass is gradually cooled in the slow cooling furnace. A cooling step. In the slow cooling furnace, the sheet glass is drawn between a pair of rollers, and the sheet glass is stretched to a desired thickness while being conveyed downward by the roller, and then the sheet glass is gradually cooled. Thereafter, the glass substrate is formed by cutting the sheet glass into a predetermined dimension.
In the overflow down draw method, the sheet glass is gradually cooled at a temperature higher than the strain point and lower than the annealing point, and the temperature near the roller that conveys the sheet glass is relatively high (at a high place). Is kept at 600 ° C. or higher). In general, since the rotating shaft for rotating the roller is made of metal, the strength decreases as the temperature rises, and the risk that the allowable stress decreases and the shaft deforms increases. When the shaft is rotated in a deformed state, a roller mounted near the tip of the shaft periodically changes the speed at which the glass substrate is fed, causing a thickness deviation or warpage in the longitudinal (tensile) direction. . Patent Document 1 discloses that in order to prevent such deformation of the rotating shaft, for example, the shaft is hollow and the rotating shaft is cooled by flowing a heat medium in the hollow space.
By the way, the molten glass overflowed from the molded body has a pre-designed temperature profile in the width direction of the sheet glass along the flow direction of the molten glass so that warpage and distortion do not increase more than necessary. Strict temperature management is performed by using a cooling device, a heater, or the like so as to achieve a designed temperature profile. For this reason, it is necessary to maintain the roller which contacts a sheet glass at a fixed temperature.
On the other hand, the rotating shaft for cantilevering the roller is provided so as to penetrate the furnace wall of the molding furnace, and a temperature gradient is generated inside and outside the furnace wall. When the temperature gradient in the length direction of the rotating shaft increases, there is a problem that stress generated on the rotating shaft increases and the rotating shaft may be deformed. Although it is conceivable to use a material having a larger allowable stress than the stress due to the temperature gradient for the rotating shaft, the materials that can be selected are limited. Glass used for manufacturing a glass substrate for low-temperature polysilicon TFT liquid crystal used for FPD has a high glass-specific point such as a strain point and a slow cooling point, and therefore has a high temperature at the time of molding. The temperature at the time of carrying out becomes high, a temperature gradient becomes large inside and outside a slow cooling furnace, and the said subject becomes remarkable.
Therefore, the present invention provides a glass substrate manufacturing method and manufacturing apparatus that can accurately reproduce the temperature profile of the sheet glass as designed and can reduce the stress generated on the rotating shaft of the roller that conveys the sheet glass. The purpose is to provide.

Can be prevented from being deformed.
The glass substrate manufacturing method and glass substrate manufacturing apparatus of the present invention will be described below.
Drawing 1 is a figure showing an example of a process of a manufacturing method of a glass substrate of this embodiment.
(Overall overview of glass substrate manufacturing method)
The glass substrate manufacturing method includes a melting step (ST1), a clarification step (ST2), a homogenization step (ST3), a supply step (ST4), a molding step (ST5), a slow cooling step (ST6), and a cutting step ( ST7) is mainly included. In addition, a grinding process, a polishing process, a cleaning process, an inspection process, a packing process, and the like may be included. The manufactured glass substrate is laminated in a packing process as necessary, and is transported to a supplier.
In the melting step (ST1), molten glass is made by heating the glass raw material. The molten glass can be heated by energization heating in which electricity is supplied to the molten glass to generate heat. Further, the glass raw material can be melted by auxiliary heating with a burner flame.
In addition, molten glass contains a clarifier. As a fining agent, tin oxide, arsenous acid, antimony, and the like are known, but not particularly limited. However, it is preferable to use tin oxide as a clarifying agent from the viewpoint of reducing environmental burden.
In the clarification step (ST2), when the molten glass is heated, bubbles containing oxygen, CO 2 or SO 2 contained in the molten glass are generated. This bubble grows by absorbing oxygen generated by the reductive reaction of the fining agent, and floats on the liquid surface of the molten glass and is released. Thereafter, in the clarification step, by reducing the temperature of the molten glass, the reducing substance obtained by the reduction reaction of the clarifier undergoes an oxidation reaction. Thereby, gas components, such as oxygen in the bubble which remain | survives in molten glass, are reabsorbed in molten glass, and a bubble lose | disappears. The oxidation reaction and reduction reaction by the fining agent are performed by controlling the temperature of the molten glass.
In addition, the clarification process can also use the reduced pressure defoaming system which grows the bubble which exists in molten glass in a reduced pressure atmosphere, and defoams. The vacuum degassing method is effective in that no clarifier is used. However, the vacuum degassing method makes the apparatus complicated and large. For this reason, it is preferable to employ | adopt the clarification method which raises molten glass temperature using a clarifier.
In the homogenization step (ST3), the glass component is homogenized by stirring the molten glass using a stirrer. Thereby, the composition unevenness of the glass which is a cause of striae or the like can be reduced.
In the supplying step (ST4), the molten glass that has been stirred is supplied to the molding apparatus.
The molding step (ST5) and the slow cooling step (ST6) are performed by a molding apparatus.
In the forming step (ST5), the molten glass is formed into a sheet glass to make a flow of the sheet glass. An overflow downdraw method is used for molding.
In the slow cooling step (ST6), the sheet glass that has been formed and flowed is cooled to a desired thickness, so that internal distortion does not occur and warpage does not occur.
In the cutting step (ST7), the sheet glass after slow cooling is cut into a predetermined length to obtain a plate-like glass substrate. The cut glass substrate is further cut into a predetermined size to produce a glass substrate having a target size.

The cooling
In the viscous region, for example, the temperature profile (first profile) is designed such that the temperature at the end in the width direction of the sheet glass is lower than the temperature in the central region and the temperature in the central region is uniform. Thereby, the plate | board thickness of sheet glass can be made uniform, suppressing the shrinkage | contraction of the width direction.
In the viscoelastic region, for example, a temperature profile (second profile) is designed such that the temperature of the sheet glass gradually decreases in the width direction from the center toward the end.
In the temperature region in the vicinity of the glass strain point, the temperature profile is designed such that the temperature at the end in the width direction of the sheet glass and the temperature at the center are substantially uniform.
By managing the temperature of the sheet glass so as to follow the above-described designed temperature profile, warpage and distortion (residual stress) of the sheet glass can be reduced. In addition, the center area | region of sheet glass is an area | region including the part of the object which makes plate | board thickness uniform, and the edge part of sheet glass is an area | region including the part of the object cut | disconnected after manufacture.
As described above, the above-described slow cooling step is performed on the sheet glass so that warpage and distortion do not exceed allowable values. In this slow cooling step, a portion projecting from the furnace wall of the rotating shaft of the transport roller into the
The inventor of the present application obtained the knowledge that the temperature gradient in the length direction of the rotating shaft increases in the vicinity of the furnace wall, and the stress generated in the rotating shaft increases according to the magnitude of the temperature gradient. In order to make the stress to be less than the allowable stress under the usage environment, we considered adjusting the temperature gradient of the rotating shaft.
In the present invention, specifically, 2500 ° C./m or less so that the influence on the designed temperature profile is as small as possible and the maximum value of the temperature gradient in the longitudinal direction of the rotating shaft is a predetermined value or less. Thus, the temperature of the rotating shaft is controlled. Hereinafter, a description will be given based on the embodiment.

An

It is preferable that a heat insulating material 33 that extends from the through-hole through which the rotating shaft of the
