Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a liquid ejection apparatus including a head unit that ejects liquid, and a moving unit.
For example, in a liquid discharge apparatus such as an ink jet printer, one of the causes of deterioration in image formation accuracy (for example, distortion in an image) is a change in posture of the carriage provided with an ink discharge portion (posture shift). be able to.
Specifically, when the posture of the carriage is changed, the distance between the ink ejection unit and the recording sheet is changed, so that the ink does not land at a predetermined landing position. This deteriorates the accuracy of image formation.
In view of such circumstances, for example,
By the way, in the printer, the carriage is movably supported by the support portion, and the manufacturing accuracy and mounting accuracy of the support portion affect the posture of the carriage. In particular, in a large printer called LFP (Large Format Printer), since the carriage conveyance path (movement distance) is long, the eccentricity and attachment error of the support portion tend to cause a three-dimensional change in the posture of the carriage.
In addition, changes in the shape of the support itself due to environmental changes such as temperature changes and humidity changes and aging deterioration are likely to occur greatly in large printers. Here, it is not practical to design the support portion in consideration of environmental changes in advance because the initial transport path is distorted and the initial image formation accuracy is significantly deteriorated.
As described above, the problem related to the change in the posture of the carriage is particularly noticeable in large printers such as LFP. In order to solve such a problem, it is preferable to detect a change in the posture of the carriage in real time and perform correction control based on the detection result. Here, since the change in the posture of the carriage is often a very small change, the detection needs to be performed with high accuracy.
However,
Specifically, in FIG. 3 of
Further, in the configuration shown in the figure, when power is transmitted to the carriage 5 by the timing belt 24, the influence of the contact position of the member that contacts the carriage 5 on the posture change of the carriage 5 is described. In
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described circumstances, and is capable of detecting a minute posture change of a carriage (liquid ejection unit) with high accuracy and enabling high-quality printing by highly accurate ejection control. .
In order to solve the above problems, a liquid ejection device according to an aspect of the present invention includes a carriage that is movably supported by a support unit, a ejection unit that is provided on the carriage and ejects liquid, and the carriage. A detection unit that detects a change in posture, and the detection unit is provided at a position where a shortest distance between the detection unit and the support unit is longer than a shortest distance between the center of gravity of the carriage and the support unit. It is characterized by that.
According to this aspect, the detection unit (gyro sensor) is located at a position away from the support unit (carriage guide shaft) by a predetermined distance (the distance between the center of gravity of the carriage and the support unit (carriage guide shaft)). Be placed. Such a position is a position where the amount of change associated with a change in the posture of the carriage is larger, for example, with the support portion (carriage guide shaft) as the rotation axis. Therefore, by arranging the detection unit (gyro sensor) at such a position, it is possible to detect even a slight change in posture of the carriage (for example, deviation or blurring) and improve detection accuracy. Realize.
In the liquid ejecting apparatus according to the aspect described above, the ejection unit includes a nozzle plate in which the ejection port for the liquid ejected by the ejection unit is formed, and the detection unit includes the detection unit and the nozzle. The shortest distance to the plate is provided at a position shorter than the shortest distance between the center of gravity of the carriage and the nozzle plate.
It is preferable to detect a change in posture related to the portion where the ink ejection port is formed. According to this aspect, the detection unit is located near the nozzle plate (position closer to the nozzle plate than the center of gravity of the carriage). (Gyro sensor) is arranged. For this reason, it is possible to detect a change in the distance between the recording sheet and the ejection port with higher accuracy.
In the liquid ejection apparatus according to one aspect described above, the detection unit is provided at a substantially central position of the nozzle plate in the movement direction.
According to this aspect, since the detection unit (gyro sensor) is disposed at a substantially central position of the nozzle plate where the discharge port (nozzle port) exists, the inclination of the discharge port (nozzle port) with respect to the recording paper is more accurately determined. Detected.

According to this aspect, since the detection unit (gyro sensor) is disposed at a position where the influence of the increase / decrease of the ink inside the ink cartridge and the influence of the shake are small, the occurrence of erroneous detection due to the increase / decrease of the ink inside the ink cartridge and the shake. It is suppressed.
The liquid ejection apparatus according to one aspect described above further includes a control unit that drives and controls the ejection unit so that the liquid is ejected in an ejection mode according to a detection result by the detection unit. .
According to this aspect, since the ink ejection mode by the ejection unit is changed in accordance with the change in the carriage posture, the deterioration of the image formation accuracy due to the change in the carriage posture is suppressed, and the image quality is improved.
Further, in the liquid ejection device according to one aspect described above, the ejection unit includes two or more ejection units, the ejection unit includes a piezoelectric element that performs an operation of ejecting the liquid, and the control unit detects a result of detection by the detection unit. According to the discharge timing, the speed of the droplets related to the discharge, the amount per droplet of the droplets related to the discharge, the total amount of the droplets related to the discharge, the discharge unit that performs the discharge, and At least one of the voltages applied to the piezoelectric element is changed.
According to this aspect, since the ink ejection mode by the ejection unit is changed according to the change in the posture of the carriage, the deterioration of the image formation accuracy due to the change in the posture of the carriage is suppressed, and the improvement of the image quality is realized. .
Further, in the liquid ejection apparatus according to one aspect described above, the moving unit includes a plurality of the detection units.
According to this aspect, since angular velocity information is collected using a plurality of detection units (gyro sensors), it is possible to analyze angular velocity information collected at a plurality of positions and more accurately detect a change in the posture of the carriage. it can. Further, by using this detection result, the accuracy of drive control according to the change in the posture of the carriage is improved.
The moving unit according to one aspect of the present invention includes a carriage that is movably supported by a support unit, a discharge unit that is provided on the carriage and discharges liquid, and a detection unit that detects a change in the posture of the carriage. The detection unit is provided at a position where the shortest distance between the detection unit and the support unit is longer than the shortest distance between the center of gravity of the carriage and the support unit. To do.
According to this aspect, the detection unit (gyro sensor) is located at a position away from the support unit (carriage guide shaft) by a predetermined distance (the distance between the center of gravity of the carriage and the support unit (carriage guide shaft)). Such a position is a position where the amount of change associated with a change in the posture of the carriage is larger, for example, with the support portion (carriage guide shaft) as the rotation axis.

Hereinafter, with reference to FIGS. 8 and 9, the “specific position” in which the
FIG. 8 is a schematic diagram showing the arrangement position of the
In general, “distance” means the length of a straight line connecting points (ie, the shortest path). Further, the distance between the point and the straight line or the plane is grasped as the shortest distance among the distances between the point and the point within the straight line or the plane.
Here, regarding the distance between objects having a three-dimensional shape, a straight line connecting an arbitrary point on the surface of one object and an arbitrary point on the surface of the other object (that is, an arbitrary point on the surfaces of both objects) It is assumed that the length of the shortest straight line among the connecting straight lines) is understood.
Therefore, the shortest distance between objects having a three-dimensional shape is uniquely determined as the length of the shortest line among straight lines connecting any one point on the surface of one object and any one point on the surface of the other object.
In the present embodiment, the

Here, the
In this example, the
In this specification, “centroid” includes both concepts of physical centroid and geometric centroid.

[C. Application example]
(First application example)
In the above-described embodiment and modification, an example is given in which the present invention is applied to a liquid ejection apparatus (inkjet printer 1) called an on-carriage type. This is because, in the on-carriage type, the ink cartridge is placed on the carriage, and the weight of the moving unit is heavy, so that the posture of the carriage easily changes due to various factors.
However, the application target of the present invention is not limited to an on-carriage type ink jet printer. For example, the present invention can also be applied to an ink jet printer called an off-carriage type. In an off-carriage type ink jet printer, an ink cartridge is mounted at a location other than a carriage provided with a discharge portion, and the ink cartridge and the head portion are connected by, for example, a tube, and ink is supplied from the ink cartridge to the head portion through this tube. The Even with such a configuration, the application of the above-described embodiment and modification is not impeded.
