Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a liquid discharge apparatus such as an ink jet printer and a control method thereof, and more particularly to a liquid discharge apparatus capable of responding to a change in environmental temperature with high accuracy and a control method thereof. It is.
The liquid ejection apparatus is an apparatus that includes a liquid ejection head capable of ejecting liquid as droplets and ejects various liquids from the liquid ejection head. A typical example of the liquid discharge apparatus is an image recording apparatus such as an ink jet printer. In recent years, liquid ejecting apparatuses have been applied not only to the image recording apparatus but also to various manufacturing apparatuses such as a manufacturing apparatus for a color filter such as a liquid crystal display.
An ink jet recording apparatus (printer), which is a kind of liquid ejection apparatus, reciprocates in the main scanning direction with an ink jet recording head (a type of liquid ejection head, so-called serial head) that is shorter than the width of the recording medium. A head moving mechanism for moving, and a transport mechanism for sending a recording medium (landing target) such as recording paper in a direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction to perform sub-scanning, and ejecting ink in the main scanning of the recording head It is configured to record an image or the like on the recording medium by sequentially repeating the conveyance (sub-scanning) of the recording medium. However, in this method, since the scanning speed of the recording head is limited, for example, when an image is recorded on the entire surface of a relatively large size recording medium such as A2, there is a problem that much time is required. was there.
Therefore, in recent years, a head unit in which a plurality of head units are arranged in a second direction orthogonal to a first direction in which a recording medium and a head unit having a nozzle group in which a plurality of nozzles are arranged in a row is relatively moved. Ink is ejected without moving a recording head (line-type liquid discharge head) whose total length of the nozzle group formed by the head unit group corresponds to the maximum recording width of the recording medium with respect to the recording medium. The one configured as described above has been proposed. According to this configuration, it is not necessary to move the recording head in the main scanning direction. For example, an image or the like can be recorded only by transporting the recording medium in the sub-scanning direction. Recording time can be shortened.
By the way, in the above printer, for example, when the temperature of the atmosphere around the liquid discharge head, particularly the nozzle, changes, the viscosity of the liquid such as ink fluctuates. There was a possibility that the speed would fluctuate from the design target value. If the ejection characteristics fluctuate in this way, there is a possibility that the image quality such as an image recorded on a landing target such as a recording paper is deteriorated. For this reason, for example, the ambient temperature around the liquid ejection head is detected, and the drive pulse for driving the pressure generating means is corrected based on the detected temperature (for example, Patent Document 1). In the configuration of
However, in a printer that employs the above-described line-type liquid ejection head, for example, when an image or the like is recorded on roll paper, the ejection operation is generally not interrupted until printing of a predetermined image or the like is completed. Since it is configured to be continued, it is difficult to correct the drive pulse during the ejection operation. In this regard, a plurality of ejection drive pulse data corresponding to a predetermined range of temperature is stored in a waveform memory (drive pulse storage means) such as SDRAM, and the drive pulse corresponding to the temperature detected by the temperature detection means. There is also a method of selecting from the waveform memory and using it. In this configuration, in order to respond finely to a wider range of temperature changes, it is necessary to prepare a larger number of waveform patterns of ejection drive pulses, and the capacity of the waveform memory increases accordingly. For example, if corresponding waveform patterns are prepared in increments of 0.1 ° C. within a temperature range of 30 ° C. to 50 ° C., a total of 211 patterns are obtained. When all these waveform patterns are stored in the waveform memory, at least 211 waveform patterns are stored. There was a problem that the area was required and the cost increased accordingly.
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a liquid ejection apparatus capable of performing more appropriate ejection control according to a temperature change while suppressing the amount of storage means used. According to the present invention, the waveform data corresponding to each temperature of the change unit temperature ΔTu in the temperature range of the center temperature Tm ± α ° C. is stored in the drive pulse data storage unit with the temperature acquired from the temperature detection unit as the center temperature Tm. Since the current temperature is acquired from the temperature detection means at a specified update interval, and the update processing of the waveform data stored in the drive pulse data storage means is executed with the acquired current temperature as the center temperature Tm, the waveform memory It is possible to select an optimum drive pulse with higher accuracy in accordance with the temperature change while reducing the use area as compared with the conventional case. As a result, the discharge characteristics can be made uniform regardless of the temperature change during the discharge operation.

According to this configuration, by providing the preliminary storage means for storing the currently used waveform data stored in the drive pulse data storage means during the execution of the update process, the waveform data update process is executed. It is possible to prevent a problem that waveform data cannot be read out.
Further, in the above configuration, the preliminary storage means stores the waveform data stored adjacent to the waveform data being used in the drive pulse data storage means together with the waveform data of the drive pulse being used. It is desirable to adopt.
According to this configuration, even when the temperature slightly changes during the execution of the waveform data update process, it is possible to cope with the problem by reading the corresponding waveform data from the preliminary storage unit. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the ejection characteristics from changing during the execution of the waveform data update process.

FIG. 1 is a schematic plan view illustrating the configuration of the
The
The
The
As shown in FIG. 1, a
As shown in FIG. 1, the

FIG. 3 is an exploded perspective view showing the configuration of the main part of the
In the
In the flow
On the surface of the
The
A driving voltage (driving pulse) from the

The
The
The ejection data developed based on the print data is stored in the output buffer of the

FIG. 7 is a block diagram illustrating the configuration of the drive
The
The second
FIG. 8 is a schematic diagram for explaining waveform data that is the basis of the ejection drive pulse P in the drive signal COM. The basic waveform data includes the inflection points PP1 to PP4 at which the slope of the voltage waveform of the ejection drive pulse P changes, the voltage slope (voltage change amount) of the waveform element following the inflection point, and the waveform element. It is stored in a block designated by a predetermined address in the
FIG. 9 is a schematic diagram for explaining the configuration of the
Thus, since the
As shown in FIG. 9, the drive
The save
Next, waveform data expansion / update processing will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG. This development / update processing of the waveform data is performed in parallel with the recording operation.
First, upon receiving a print execution instruction for a predetermined image or text, the
In the subsequent recording operation, the
As described above, in the

In the above embodiment, a so-called electrostatic actuator type drive source is exemplified as the pressure generating means of the present invention, but the present invention is not limited to this.
