Claims (5)
- 燃焼室にアンモニアを供給するアンモニア供給機と、機関排気通路に配置され、還元剤としてアンモニアを供給することによりNOXを選択的に還元する上流側のNOX選択還元触媒と、上流側のNOX選択還元触媒よりも下流の機関排気通路に配置され、還元剤としてアンモニアを供給することによりNOXを選択的に還元する下流側のNOX選択還元触媒とを備え、燃焼時の空燃比がリーンになるように燃焼を行なう内燃機関であって、
上流側のNOX選択還元触媒は、流入する排気のNOXに対するアンモニアの濃度比が上昇した場合にNOXの浄化率が上昇する第1領域と、流入する排気のNOXに対するアンモニアの濃度比が上昇した場合にNOXの浄化率がほぼ一定になる第2領域とを有し、
上流側のNOX選択還元触媒に流入する排気のNOXに対するアンモニアの濃度比が第2領域内に維持される運転状態を有し、
下流側のNOX選択還元触媒は、上流側のNOX選択還元触媒よりも大きなアンモニアの酸化能力を有することを特徴とする、内燃機関。 - 上流側のNOX選択還元触媒は、鉄を担持したゼオライトを含み、下流側のNOX選択還元触媒は、銅を担持したゼオライトを含む、請求項1に記載の内燃機関。
- 上流側のNOX選択還元触媒および下流側のNOX選択還元触媒は、共通の基材を有する、請求項1または2に記載の内燃機関。
- 上流側のNOX選択還元触媒に流入する排気のNOXに対するアンモニアの濃度比を推定し、推定した濃度比が予め定められた判定値未満である場合には、上流側のNOX選択還元触媒に流入する排気のNOXに対するアンモニアの濃度比を上昇させる制御を実施する、請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載の内燃機関。
- アンモニア供給機により燃焼室に供給されたアンモニアの少なくとも一部を未燃の状態で上流側のNOX選択還元触媒に供給可能に形成されている、請求項4に記載の内燃機関。
