Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a carbon fiber manufacturing apparatus, and more particularly to a carbon fiber manufacturing apparatus that heats a carbon fiber precursor (precursor) using a microwave.
Conventionally, the production of carbon fibers includes the step of heating polyacrylonitrile (PAN) yarns or pitch (PITCH) yarns. For example, in the carbon fiber manufacturing method using PAN yarn, the PAN yarn is subjected to a process of forming a stabilized PAN yarn by an incombustible process in which heat treatment is performed at 200 to 300 ° C. in an oxidizing atmosphere, and an incombustible process is performed. A carbonization step is included in which the stabilized PAN yarn is heat-treated at 1000 ° C. or higher in an inert gas. In the carbonization process, the stabilized PAN yarn to which a certain tension is applied is heated at a certain temperature, and a fine structure in which a graphite structure and an amorphous structure are mixed appropriately is formed. Manufactured.
In order to perform this carbonization step, an apparatus is used in which the stabilized PAN yarn is run and heated in a heating furnace heated by a resistive heater provided on the furnace wall. However, since the traveling speed of the stabilized PAN yarn in the heating furnace must be limited to a certain value or less, the internal volume of the heating furnace becomes large, energy efficiency is lowered, and temperature control becomes difficult. In addition, the furnace wall is required to have heat resistance because it has a temperature higher than that of the stabilized PAN yarn. Furthermore, air is generally used as an oxidizing gas in the incombustible process, but the production yield of carbon fibers is improved by using or adding a halogen gas such as fluorine gas (F2) or chlorine gas (Cl2). It is known. However, when the stabilized PAN yarn in which halogen remains is processed in a conventional external heating type furnace, there is a problem that a high-temperature furnace wall may be corroded by halogen.
On the other hand, an apparatus for heat-treating a stabilized PAN yarn using microwaves or plasma induced by microwaves has also been proposed.
However, the electrical resistance of the stabilized PAN yarn decreases with the progress of the heat carbonization treatment of the stabilized PAN yarn. Therefore, when the stabilized PAN yarn is carbonized by microwaves, the absorption rate of microwaves of the stabilized PAN yarn and the heating efficiency by microwaves change due to the progress of carbonization, and it becomes difficult to control the heating conditions. In particular, at the beginning of the process, the stabilized PAN yarn precursor is almost an insulator and hardly absorbs microwaves. For this reason, direct heating is almost impossible. In particular, when a certain process proceeds and the stabilized PAN yarn precursor is changed to carbon fiber and the electrical resistance value is lowered, the reflectivity fluctuates in accordance with the change in the matching characteristics of the reaction vessel, and the actual microwave There was a problem that the supplied power changed in an unstable manner. Further, the electrical resistance of the carbon fiber becomes very low, local abnormal heating and arc discharge occur, and the stabilized PAN yarn may be cut. If the stabilized PAN yarn is cut in the heating device, the manufacturing process must be stopped, and the inside of the heating furnace needs to be cleaned, which reduces productivity.
There is also a conventional technique in which plasma is generated using microwaves and the generated plasma is used in a carbonization process. However, it is not easy to generate plasma stably, and it is very difficult to control the temperature of the processing substrate. Furthermore, since vacuum or pressure reduction conditions of about 1 to 10 Torr are required, the structure of the apparatus becomes complicated and the cost increases. As a result, there is a problem that such a conventional technique cannot be practically used for the carbonization process.
The present invention has been made in order to solve the above-described problems, and it is possible to uniformly heat a carbon fiber precursor with high energy efficiency using a microwave, and to perform the precursor discharge by arc discharge. An object of the present invention is to provide a carbon fiber production apparatus capable of preventing cutting.
In order to achieve the above object, a carbon fiber manufacturing apparatus for heat-treating a carbon fiber precursor of the present invention includes a cylindrical outer wall part, a microwave source that is provided on the outer wall part and that irradiates microwaves inside the outer wall part And a cylindrical shape that is provided inside the outer wall portion and absorbs at least a part of the microwave irradiated from the microwave source and generates heat and transmits at least a part of the microwave irradiated from the microwave source to the inside. And a traveling mechanism for causing the carbon fiber precursor to travel from one end of the absorbing / transmitting member to the other end within the absorbing / transmitting member.
According to the manufacturing apparatus according to the present invention, since the absorption / transmission member provided inside the heating apparatus and the carbon fiber precursor itself are heated by the microwave, the entire inside of the heating furnace is used using a resistive heater. Compared with the conventional apparatus which heats, the energy efficiency for heating improves and it becomes easy to control the temperature inside an absorption and permeation | transmission member.
In addition, although the microwave source is provided on the outer wall, the precursor is heated inside the absorption / transmission member provided inside the outer wall, so that the halogen gas used in the incombustibility process is not added to the precursor. Even if it remains, there is no risk of corroding the outer wall.
Furthermore, in the manufacturing apparatus of the present invention, an absorption / transmission member that absorbs microwaves is provided around the precursor, and excess microwaves are absorbed by the absorption / transmission member, thus preventing arc discharge. can do.
Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. In the present embodiment, an apparatus that performs carbonization using a stabilized PAN yarn that has undergone a non-combustible process as a precursor will be described as an example.
FIG.1 and FIG.2 shows the
The
FIG. 3 shows an example of a
Further, a
A hollow cylindrical
Inside the
The absorbing / transmitting member 40 is a metal such as silicon carbide (SiC), silicon (Si), carbon (C), carbon fiber composite material, molybdenum silicide, tungsten silicide, etc., which has the property of absorbing heat and generating heat. It is formed of a ceramic material containing exothermic substances such as silicides or fine powders of these exothermic substances. The content of the heat generating substance in the ceramic material forming the absorbing / transmitting member 40 is formed so as to have a portion that decreases in the traveling direction of the stabilized
In addition, the individual cylindrical members do not necessarily have to be joined, and may be arranged with a predetermined gap. Although the thickness of the absorbing / transmitting member 40 is about 1-5 cm, it can be changed toward the traveling direction of the PAN yarn.
Between the
In the
Control of the
With reference to FIG. 1, how to make the
Hereinafter, the operation of the manufacturing apparatus will be described.
The stabilized
When microwaves are irradiated from the
The stabilized PAN yarn immediately after the flame retardant treatment, which is a precursor, hardly absorbs microwaves because of its low electrical conductivity. As the PAN yarn carbonizes, the electrical resistance value decreases, efficiently absorbing microwaves and generating heat from the inside. In the
In addition, when the carbonization of the PAN yarn progresses and the electrical resistance of the PAN yarn further decreases, arc discharge occurs in the conventional apparatus using microwaves, and the PAN yarn may be cut. On the other hand, in the
In addition, this invention is not limited to the said embodiment, It can change and implement suitably. For example, it is not necessary to operate all of the plurality of

A monitor using quartz fiber can be effectively used for adjustment, monitoring and feedback of the apparatus of the present invention. Infrared and visible light generated by the probe obtained from the fiber is measured with a radiation thermometer, and the local ambient temperature and the intensity of the microwave can be monitored indirectly. Further, by monitoring the flickering of the light intensity in the furnace space with the fiber, it is possible to detect arc discharge that is likely to occur in microwave heating. When the arc discharge is detected, the output of the surrounding microwave power supply is immediately reduced or cut off, thereby suppressing the risk of damage spreading and thread breakage.
As apparent from the above description, according to the carbon fiber manufacturing apparatus of the present invention, the energy efficiency for heating is improved as compared with the conventional apparatus that heats the entire inside of the heating furnace using a resistive heater. It becomes easy to control the temperature inside the absorbing / transmitting member. Moreover, even if the halogen gas used in the incombustibility process remains in the precursor to be treated, there is no possibility of corroding the outer wall portion.
Furthermore, in the manufacturing apparatus of the present invention, excessive microwaves are absorbed by the absorbing / transmitting member, and therefore arc discharge and cutting of the carbon fiber precursor due to this can be prevented.
