An object of the present invention is to produce a CNT oriented yarn having a functionally balanced electrical and mechanical properties.
As a result of repeated examinations in view of the above problems, the present inventor has mixed a carbon nanotube, a specific thickening agent, water, and an appropriate solvent such as N-methylpyrrolidone, whereby a viscous dispersion in which the carbon nanotube is dispersed. A liquid can be obtained, and the dispersion liquid is discharged into a coagulation bath (for example, an ethanol bath) to perform wet spinning to obtain a spinning base yarn, which is stretched by a stretching machine, whereby carbon nanotubes are oriented. It has been found that a nanotube / thickener composite yarn can be obtained. Further, by immersing the obtained composite yarn in an appropriate solvent such as water or a water-containing solvent, the thickener is eluted and removed, and an oriented carbon nanotube yarn is obtained.

According to the present invention, it is possible to obtain a yarn containing carbon nanotubes having excellent conductivity and strength.
The carbon nanotube used in the present invention is a carbon-based material having a shape in which a graphene sheet is wound into a cylindrical shape, and is roughly classified into single-walled nanotubes (SWNT) and multi-walled nanotubes (MWNT) based on the number of peripheral walls. Also, various types are known, such as being divided into a chiral type, a zigzag type, and an armchair type due to the difference in the structure of the graphene sheet. Any type of carbon nanotube can be used in the present invention as long as it is referred to as such a so-called carbon nanotube. In general, single-walled nanotubes having a large aspect ratio, that is, thin and long, are easy to form a gel. For example, carbon nanotubes having an aspect ratio of 10 3 or more, preferably 10 4 or more can be mentioned. The length of the carbon nanotube is usually 1 μm or more, preferably 50 μm or more, more preferably 500 μm or more. Although the upper limit of the length of a carbon nanotube is not specifically limited, For example, it is about 30 mm.
Therefore, in the present invention, it is preferable to obtain a gel composition from SWNT. As a suitable example of the carbon nanotube used for practical use, HiPco (manufactured by Unidym), which can be relatively mass-produced using carbon monoxide as a raw material, is, of course, not limited to this.
Examples of the thickener used in the present invention include carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and carboxymethylcellulose is preferred.
In the present invention, carbon nanotubes are dispersed in a solvent together with a thickener to form a dispersion. Examples of the solvent include water, N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethylacetamide, acetamide, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), dioxane, and ketones (for example, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, etc.) , Alcohols (methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, butanol, etc.) and the like, preferably water and NMP.
The amount of carbon nanotubes in the dispersion is about 200 to 1500 mg, preferably about 400 to 1200 mg per 100 ml of solvent. The amount of thickener in the dispersion is
In the case of CMC, it is about 100 to 2000 mg, preferably about 250 to 1000 mg per 100 ml of solvent.
In the case of PVP, it is about 1000-20000 mg per 100 ml of solvent, Preferably it is about 4000-10000 mg.
Also, with respect to 100 parts by weight of carbon nanotubes, the thickener is:
In the case of CMC, it is preferable to use about 20 to 500 parts by weight, preferably about 50 to 200 parts by weight. In the case of PVP, it is preferable to use about 400 to 4000 parts by weight, preferably about 700 to 3000 parts by weight.
If the amount of the thickener is too small, it will be difficult to maintain the shape of the spinning yarn when the dispersion is discharged into the coagulation bath. If the amount of the thickener is too large, the shape of the spinning yarn can be retained, It becomes difficult to remove the spinning yarn from the bath. The dispersion can be obtained by mixing these components and mixing them appropriately by appropriately combining a stirrer, a homogenizer, an ultrasonic device and the like.
The dispersion liquid of the present invention is discharged or extruded into a coagulation bath from a syringe, a spinneret or the like in a spinning process to form a spinning raw yarn, and this spinning raw yarn is subjected to a drawing step, whereby carbon nanotubes and thickeners are formed. It can be set as the composite yarn comprised from these. The diameter of the syringe, the spinneret, etc. when discharging is about 10 to 1000 μm, preferably about 50 to 500 μm. By adjusting the diameter, the diameter of the spinning yarn and the drawn yarn can be adjusted.
Examples of poor solvents in the coagulation bath include lower alcohols such as ethanol, methanol, and propanol, ketones such as acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, and 4-methyl-2-pentanone (MIBK), ethers such as tetrahydrofuran and dioxane, DMF, acetamide, Examples include amides such as dimethylacetamide, esters such as ethyl acetate, halogenated hydrocarbons such as methylene chloride, and aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene. Alcohols and ketones are preferred, especially ethanol, 4-methyl -2-Pentanone (MIBK) is preferred. The poor solvent may contain an appropriate amount of water as long as wet spinning is possible.
A spinning yarn composed of CNTs and a thickener obtained by discharging the dispersion into a coagulation bath can be stretched and dried to form stretched oriented yarns composed of CNTs and a thickener. The draw ratio is about 1.1 to 3 times. The drawn yarn is dried at 50 to 150 ° C. for about 1 to 24 hours.
The drawn composite yarn can be treated by immersion in a suitable solvent such as water or a water-containing solvent, and the thickener can be eluted and removed to obtain a yarn composed of carbon nanotubes.
