Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a lithium secondary battery having a configuration in which a porous protective layer mainly composed of an insulating filler is formed on an electrode active material layer.
In recent years, secondary batteries such as lithium secondary batteries and nickel metal hydride batteries have become increasingly important as power sources mounted on vehicles using electricity as a drive source, or power sources mounted on personal computers, portable terminals, and other electrical products. . In particular, a lithium secondary battery that is lightweight and has a high energy density is expected to be preferably used as a high-output power source for mounting on a vehicle.
A typical electrode (a positive electrode and a negative electrode) of a lithium secondary battery includes an electrode active material layer (specifically, a positive electrode active material layer and a positive electrode active material layer that mainly contains an electrode active material capable of reversibly occluding and releasing lithium ions). A negative electrode active material layer) is formed on the current collector. Such an electrode active material layer is formed by dispersing or dissolving an electrode active material in an appropriate solvent, applying a composition prepared in a paste or slurry form to an electrode current collector, drying it, and then compressing it with a roller or the like. Is done.
Patent documents 1-3 are mentioned as conventional technology about an electrode of this kind of lithium secondary battery.
Providing an insulating layer containing an inorganic material as a main component (hereinafter referred to as “porous protective layer”) on the surface of the electrode active material layer prevents the electrode active material layer from peeling off easily due to repeated charge and discharge. This can be an effective means for suppressing a decrease in the maintenance rate of the battery capacity.
However, depending on the degree of dispersion of each particle of the inorganic material in the porous protective layer, the internal resistance of the battery may be increased by providing the porous protective layer. For example, if the particles are not uniformly dispersed and the particles are closely packed and exist in the porous protective layer, the conductive path (conductive path) is blocked in the densely packed portion. The moving charge moves through the part where the particles are not dense. As a result, there are many portions that are not used as conductive paths, which contributes to an increase in internal resistance.
Therefore, the present invention is a lithium secondary battery comprising an electrode in which a porous protective layer mainly composed of an insulating filler is formed on the surface of an electrode active material layer, wherein the insulating filler in the porous protective layer is An object of the present invention is to provide a lithium secondary battery having a good conductivity which is appropriately dispersed without being excessively dense among particles.
透気度400秒/100mL、厚さ20μmのセパレータ材の片面に前記多孔質保護層を形成するための組成物を4μm積層し、該組成物から成るコート層と、該セパレータ材とから成る積層体を形成した場合の該積層体の透気度が200秒/100mL以上480秒/100mL以下の範囲内となる;
To achieve the above object, a battery provided by the present invention includes a negative electrode including a negative electrode active material layer, a positive electrode including a positive electrode active material, and a separator interposed between the negative electrode and the positive electrode. Next battery.
In the lithium secondary battery provided by the present invention, a porous protective layer mainly composed of an insulating filler is formed on at least one surface of the negative electrode active material layer and the positive electrode active material layer, Here, the porous protective layer has the following conditions:
4 μm of a composition for forming the porous protective layer is laminated on one side of a separator material having an air permeability of 400 seconds / 100 mL and a thickness of 20 μm, and a laminate comprising a coating layer made of the composition and the separator material When the body is formed, the air permeability of the laminate is in the range of 200 seconds / 100 mL to 480 seconds / 100 mL;
It is formed so that it may have a porous structure substantially equivalent to the coating layer comprising
In the present specification, the “lithium secondary battery” refers to a secondary battery that uses lithium ions as electrolyte ions and is charged and discharged by movement of lithium ions between the positive and negative electrodes. A secondary battery generally referred to as a lithium ion battery is a typical example included in the lithium secondary battery in this specification.
The “separator” is a porous sheet interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and is one of constituent materials of the battery that can function as a conductive path (conductive path) between the two electrodes.
Further, in this specification, “air permeability” refers to air resistance (Gurley) and refers to air permeability measured based on “JIS P 8117”. Typically, this represents a time (second) in which 100 mL of air passes through an object having an area of 642 mm 2 (unit: second / 100 mL).
The lithium secondary battery having such a structure is an electrode having a porous protective layer mainly composed of an insulating filler on the surface of at least one of a negative electrode active material layer and a positive electrode active material layer (a negative electrode or a positive electrode, or both a negative electrode and a positive electrode) Therefore, the clogging of the separator due to the stripped pieces of the active material layer is prevented in advance, so that a highly reliable lithium secondary battery in which an internal short circuit is suppressed is provided.
Furthermore, the lithium secondary battery according to the present invention is a composition for forming a porous protective layer mainly composed of an insulating filler on one surface of a separator material (air permeability: 400 seconds / 100 mL, thickness: 20 μm). Is laminated in a thickness of 4 μm, and the air permeability of the laminate when the laminate comprising the coating layer comprising the composition and the separator material is formed is in the range of 200 seconds / 100 mL to 480 seconds / 100 mL or less. A porous protective layer is formed so as to have a porous structure substantially equivalent to the inner coating layer. As a result, a through hole having a size suitable as a path (conductive path) through which the charge carrier moves is formed in the porous protective layer. As a result, it is possible to provide a lithium secondary battery having no increase in internal resistance and good conductivity.
In addition, the substantially equivalent porous structure is the same in the mixing conditions (time, stirring speed, etc.) of the material by the mixing device so that the dispersion degree of the coating layer of the laminate and the insulating filler is the same. The composition can be formed by applying the composition to an object under the same application conditions.
In addition, as an insulating filler which comprises the said porous protective layer, the inorganic filler which uses inorganic materials, such as a ceramic material, as a main structural component can be used preferably. In particular, inorganic fillers such as oxides and carbides are preferred. As a suitable example of such an inorganic filler, alumina particles (for example, α-alumina particles) of an inorganic oxide filler can be given. In a lithium secondary battery including an electrode having a porous protective layer containing alumina particles, the electrode active material layer is prevented from falling off, so that an internal short circuit can be prevented. As a result, a lithium secondary battery having excellent reliability can be provided.

As shown in FIG. 1, a lithium
As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, in this embodiment, the

First, each component of the negative electrode of the lithium
As the negative electrode
As the negative electrode active material constituting the negative electrode
In addition to the negative electrode active material, the negative electrode
Such a polymer material is preferably a polymer material that dissolves or disperses in water when an aqueous solvent is used. Examples of water-soluble polymer materials that are soluble in water include carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), methyl cellulose (MC), cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP), hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate (HPMCP), and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). ) And the like. Polymer materials that can be dispersed in water (water dispersible) include polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether copolymer (PFA), and tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer. Fluorine resin such as coalescence (FEP), ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE), vinyl acetate copolymer, styrene butadiene block copolymer (SBR), acrylic acid modified SBR resin (SBR latex), Arabic Rubbers such as rubber are exemplified.
Alternatively, when a non-aqueous solvent (organic solvent) is used, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC), polyethylene oxide (PEO), polypropylene oxide (PPO), polyethylene oxide-propylene oxide copolymer ( PEO-PPO) or the like can be used.
The polymer materials exemplified above may be used as a thickener and various additives in addition to being used as a binder.
As the insulating filler constituting the porous
Moreover, as a binder which comprises the porous

Next, a method for manufacturing the negative electrode of the lithium
First, the negative electrode
As a method of applying the negative electrode active material layer forming composition to the negative electrode
Then, a porous
Here, in the case of a negative electrode having an aspect in which the porous
That is, a composition for forming a porous
Moreover, the porous
As a method of forming the porous

For example, the
In addition to the positive electrode active material, the positive electrode
Further, a conductive material can be added to the positive electrode
The positive electrode
Moreover, the electrolyte solution can use the same thing as the nonaqueous electrolyte solution conventionally used for a lithium ion battery without limitation. Such a nonaqueous electrolytic solution typically has a composition in which a supporting salt is contained in a suitable nonaqueous solvent. As the non-aqueous solvent, for example, one or two or more selected from the group consisting of ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate, diethyl carbonate and the like can be used. Further, as the supporting salt, for example, it can be used a lithium salt of LiPF 6, LiBF 4, LiAsF 6, and the like.
As described above, the lithium

Next, a positive electrode (positive electrode sheet) was produced. The composition for positive electrode active material layer formation was prepared by mixing with water. This composition was applied to both sides of an aluminum foil having a thickness of about 10 μm as a positive electrode current collector, dried, and then compressed to prepare a positive electrode sheet.

As apparent from the results shown in FIG. 4, the porous body was porous using the composition for forming a porous protective layer having an air permeability of 110 seconds / 100 mL (sample 1) and 620 seconds / 100 mL (sample 6). It was shown that the lithium secondary battery including the negative electrode on which the quality protective layer is formed has a large internal resistance. In particular, the internal resistance value of the lithium secondary battery according to which the air permeability of the laminate was 110 seconds / 100 mL (sample 1) was the highest, and was 4.8 mΩ.
In addition, the lithium secondary gas whose air permeability of the laminate is 200 seconds / 100 mL (sample 2), 280 seconds / 100 mL (sample 3), 360 seconds / 100 mL (sample 4), and 480 seconds / 100 mL (sample 5) The battery was confirmed to have a low internal resistance. Moreover, the internal resistance value of the lithium secondary battery according to the air permeability of the laminate of 280 seconds / 100 mL (sample 3) and 360 seconds / 100 mL (sample 4) was a low value of 4.0 mΩ or less.
From the above measurement results, the laminate was coated on the surface of the negative electrode active material layer under the same coating conditions using the same composition as the coating layer having an air permeability of 200 seconds / 100 mL or more and 480 seconds / 100 mL or less. In the lithium secondary battery provided with the porous protective layer formed as described above, it was confirmed that the internal resistance was small.
