Description
The present invention relates to a droplet discharge device including a droplet discharge head for discharging a liquid material, a liquid material arranging method for arranging a liquid material on a substrate, and a liquid material containing a material constituting a color filter. Color filter manufacturing apparatus including a droplet discharge head, color filter manufacturing method for arranging a liquid material containing a material constituting a color filter on a substrate, and a liquid material containing a material constituting an electro-optical device on a substrate The present invention relates to an electro-optical device manufacturing apparatus, and an electro-optical device manufacturing method.
Conventionally, as a technique for forming a functional film such as a color filter film of a color liquid crystal device, a liquid material containing a functional film material using a droplet discharge device having a droplet discharge head for discharging the liquid material as droplets A technique is known in which a liquid material is disposed at an arbitrary position on a substrate by ejecting the liquid droplets to place a liquid material at the position, and the disposed liquid material is dried to form a functional film. Since the droplet discharge head of the droplet discharge apparatus used for forming such a film can selectively discharge minute droplets from the discharge nozzle and land with high positional accuracy, the precise planar shape and film A film having a thickness can be formed.
However, since the discharged liquid droplets do not always follow a predetermined flight path, droplets whose landing positions are shifted are generated, and the accuracy of the formed film may be impaired. there were. In order to mitigate the influence of the deviation of the flight path, it is effective to shorten the flight distance, that is, to reduce the distance from the droplet discharge head to the substrate (hereinafter referred to as “head gap”). . However, if the head gap is reduced, problems such as an increased possibility of contact between the droplet discharge head and the substrate occur, and it is necessary to maintain the head gap more accurately.
However, there is a possibility that “unevenness” or “undulation” of the thickness exists on the substrate. There is a possibility that “undulation” may also exist on the mounting surface of the table on which the substrate is mounted. In addition, there is a tendency for the substrate to increase in size for manufacturing efficiency and device enlargement, and as the size increases, the “unevenness” and “swell” of the thickness tend to increase. By reducing the head gap, the thickness of “thickness” and “waviness” becomes larger relative to the head gap, so depending on the “thickness” and “waviness” of the thickness. There was a problem that the head gap was affected. Such a problem cannot be dealt with by the apparatus and method disclosed in
Furthermore, in order to use a large substrate for efficiency in manufacturing without waste, a plurality of types of apparatuses having different sizes and required landing position accuracy may be formed on the same substrate. In such a case, if a head gap suitable for a device with high required landing position accuracy is adopted, parts of the device with low required landing position accuracy are manufactured with an excessively small head gap. There was a problem that would be damaged. By adopting a head gap tailored to a device with low required landing position accuracy, the portion of the device with high required landing position accuracy is due to the impact of landing position errors that may increase to produce with a large head gap, There was a problem that required landing position accuracy could not always be ensured.
SUMMARY An advantage of some aspects of the invention is to solve at least a part of the problems described above, and the invention can be implemented as the following forms or application examples.
Application Example 1 A droplet discharge apparatus according to this application example includes one or more head units having one or more discharge heads for discharging a liquid material, and a base material on which the discharge head and the discharged liquid material are landed. A main-scanning mechanism that relatively moves the main-scanning direction in the main-scanning direction, wherein the base material and the discharge heads in the respective head units of the one or more head units are separated from each other. A head lifting mechanism for individually moving the head unit in a head gap increasing / decreasing direction that is a distance in the contact direction, a gap sensor for measuring the head gap, and the head lifting mechanism according to the measurement result of the gap sensor. A gap adjusting means for adjusting the head gap by moving the head unit by the gap sensor, In serial main scanning direction, relative to said base member, characterized in that it is moved relative to the head unit substantially integral.
According to this droplet discharge device, the head gap is adjusted in accordance with the head gap measured by the gap sensor that is relatively moved relative to the base member substantially integrally with the head unit. As a result, the head gap can be adjusted in accordance with the actual head gap for each region where the liquid material is disposed. Therefore, even if there is a variation in the position of the substrate surface due to waviness or unevenness in thickness, an appropriate head gap can be maintained by adjusting the position of the ejection head so as to follow the variation. it can.
Application Example 2 In the liquid droplet ejection apparatus according to the application example, the head gap is defined corresponding to an arrangement area including a sub arrangement area that is a continuous area on which the liquid material is landed on the base material. Reference head gap acquisition means for acquiring a reference head gap is further provided, and the gap adjustment means corresponds to the arrangement area, and the head gap is set to the reference head gap corresponding to the arrangement area. It is preferable to adjust the gap.
According to this droplet discharge device, the reference head gap defined corresponding to the arrangement region is acquired by the reference head gap acquisition unit, and the head unit is moved up and down by the gap adjustment unit using the head lifting mechanism. The head gap is adjusted to the reference head gap corresponding to the arrangement region. Thereby, in each arrangement area, it is possible to perform ejection with a reference head gap defined corresponding to the arrangement area. For this reason, it is possible to perform ejection with a head gap suitable for each arrangement region. For example, in a placement area where the required landing position accuracy is high, by performing ejection with a narrow head gap, high landing position accuracy is maintained, and in a placement area where the required landing position accuracy is low, if low landing position accuracy is By discharging with a wide head gap that can be secured, the liquid material can be arranged efficiently. In this way, the required landing position accuracy is reduced due to the impact of landing position errors, which may reduce manufacturing efficiency due to excessively small head gaps, or increase due to large head gaps. It can be suppressed that it cannot be secured.
Application Example 3 In the liquid droplet ejection apparatus according to the application example, it is preferable that the gap sensor is provided on each side of the head unit in the main scanning direction.
According to this droplet discharge device, since the gap sensor is provided on each side of the head unit, the base material can be moved even if the base material moves relative to the head unit from either side of the main scanning direction. Since the head unit first faces the gap sensor and then faces the head unit, the head gap can be measured by the gap sensor prior to ejection from the ejection head.
Application Example 4 In the liquid droplet ejection apparatus according to the application example, it is preferable that the reference head gap is defined according to the size of the sub arrangement area included in the arrangement area.
According to this droplet discharge device, the reference head gap is defined in accordance with the size of the sub-arrangement region that is a continuous region on which the liquid material is landed.
Since the sub-arrangement region is a continuous region where the liquid material is landed, there is substantially no problem due to the landing position being shifted when landing in the same sub-arrangement region. Therefore, if the sub arrangement area is large, the standard of landing position accuracy can be relaxed. By defining the reference head gap according to the size of the sub-arrangement region, the liquid material can be discharged with an appropriate head gap according to the required landing position accuracy.
Application Example 5 In the liquid droplet ejection apparatus according to the application example described above, it is preferable that the reference head gap is defined according to a tolerance of a position where the liquid material is arranged in the arrangement region.
According to this droplet discharge device, the reference head gap is defined in accordance with the allowable error of the position where the liquid material is arranged in the arrangement region.
If the tolerance of the position where the liquid material is arranged is large, the standard of landing position accuracy can be relaxed. By defining the reference head gap according to the tolerance of the position where the liquid material is arranged, the liquid material can be discharged with an appropriate head gap according to the required landing position accuracy.
Application Example 6 In the droplet discharge device according to the application example described above, the droplet discharge apparatus further includes discharge timing adjustment means for adjusting discharge timing at which the discharge head discharges the liquid material, and the discharge timing adjustment means includes the reference head gap. It is preferable to adjust the discharge timing by changing the discharge timing in response to the above.
According to this droplet discharge device, the discharge timing adjusting unit adjusts the discharge timing by changing the discharge timing in accordance with the reference head gap.
By changing the head gap, the moving distance in the main scanning direction until the discharged liquid material lands changes. Therefore, when the head gap is different, the timing at which ejection is performed differs for the same landing position. Since the head gap is adjusted to be the reference head gap, the liquid material can be discharged at an appropriate discharge timing with respect to the position to be landed by adjusting the discharge timing corresponding to the reference head gap. it can.
[Application Example 7] The liquid material arranging method according to this application example is such that each of the head units of one or more head units having one or more discharge heads for discharging the liquid material and the discharged liquid material are landed. The liquid material is disposed on the base material by causing the liquid material to move relative to the base material in the main scanning direction and discharging the liquid material from the discharge head. And a gap measuring step for measuring a head gap, which is a distance in the direction of separation from the ejection head in the head unit, and the head gap becomes a predetermined head gap by moving the head unit. As described above, the gap adjustment step for adjusting the head gap, the base material, and the head unit are relatively moved in the main scanning direction. Both of which include a discharge step of discharging the liquid material from the discharge head, and the gap measurement step and the gap adjustment step are started prior to the discharge step and are performed substantially in parallel. And
According to this liquid material arrangement method, the process starts before the discharge process and starts before the discharge process according to the head gap measured in the gap measurement process performed substantially in parallel. The head gap is adjusted in the gap adjustment step performed in the above. Thereby, the head gap can be adjusted in accordance with the actual head gap for each arrangement region. Therefore, even if there is a variation in the position of the substrate surface due to waviness or unevenness in thickness, an appropriate head gap can be maintained by adjusting the position of the ejection head so as to follow the variation. it can.
Application Example 8 In the liquid material arranging method according to the application example, the head gap defined in correspondence with an arrangement region including a sub-arrangement region that is a continuous region on which the liquid material is landed on the base material. A reference head gap acquisition step for acquiring a reference head gap is further provided, and in the gap adjustment step, the head gap is adjusted to the reference by adjusting the head gap according to a measurement result in the gap measurement step. It is preferable to adjust the head gap.
According to this liquid arrangement method, the reference head gap defined corresponding to the arrangement region is acquired in the reference head gap acquisition step, and the head gap is adjusted to the reference head gap corresponding to the arrangement region in the gap adjustment step. Is done.
Application Example 9 In the liquid material arranging method according to the application example, the reference head gap obtaining step defines the reference head gap corresponding to the size of the sub arrangement area included in the arrangement area. Preferably, a reference gap defining step is included.
According to this liquid material arranging method, in the reference gap defining step, the reference head gap is defined in accordance with the size of the sub-arrangement region that is a continuous region on which the liquid material is landed.
Application Example 10 In the liquid material arranging method according to the application example, the reference head gap acquisition step corresponds to a size of an allowable error of a position where the liquid material is arranged in the arrangement region. It is preferable to include a reference gap defining step.
According to this liquid material arrangement method, in the reference gap defining step, the reference head gap is defined in accordance with the tolerance of the position where the liquid material is arranged in the arrangement region.
Application Example 11 In the liquid material arranging method according to the application example, the discharge timing is adjusted by changing the discharge timing at which the discharge head discharges the liquid material corresponding to the reference head gap. It is preferable to further include a discharge timing adjustment step.
According to this liquid material arrangement method, the ejection timing is adjusted by changing the ejection timing in accordance with the reference head gap in the ejection timing adjustment step. By changing the head gap, the moving distance in the main scanning direction until the discharged liquid material lands changes. Therefore, when the head gap is different, the timing at which ejection is performed differs for the same landing position. Since the head gap is adjusted to be the reference head gap, the liquid material can be discharged at an appropriate discharge timing with respect to the position to be landed by adjusting the discharge timing corresponding to the reference head gap. it can.
Application Example 12 In the color filter manufacturing apparatus according to this application example, each head of one or more head units having one or more ejection heads that eject a liquid material containing a material constituting the color element film of the color filter. A color filter manufacturing apparatus comprising: a unit; and a main scanning mechanism that relatively moves the ejection head and a mother substrate on which the ejected liquid material is landed in a main scanning direction, wherein the mother substrate and the head A head lifting mechanism for individually moving the head unit in the direction of increase / decrease of the head gap, which is a distance between the ejection head and the discharge head in the unit, a gap sensor for measuring the head gap, and the gap sensor By moving the head unit by the head lifting mechanism according to the measurement result of Comprising a gap adjusting means for adjusting the Ddogyappu, wherein the gap sensor, in the main scanning direction, relative to the mother board, characterized in that it is moved relative to the head unit substantially integral.
According to the color filter manufacturing apparatus, the head gap is adjusted in accordance with the head gap measured by the gap sensor that is relatively moved relative to the mother substrate substantially integrally with the head unit. As a result, the head gap can be adjusted in accordance with the actual head gap for each region where the liquid material is disposed. Therefore, even if there is a variation in the position of the surface of the mother substrate due to waviness or thickness unevenness of the mother substrate, etc., by adjusting the position of the ejection head so as to follow the variation, an appropriate head gap can be obtained. Can be maintained.
Application Example 13 In the color filter manufacturing apparatus according to the application example, the head gap corresponding to a filter region including a color element region that is a continuous region on which the liquid material is landed to form the color element film. A reference head gap acquisition means for acquiring a reference head gap, wherein the gap adjustment means corresponds to the filter area so that the head gap becomes the reference head gap corresponding to the filter area. It is preferable to adjust the head gap.
According to this color filter manufacturing apparatus, the reference head gap defined corresponding to the filter region is acquired by the reference head gap acquisition means, and the head unit is moved up and down by the gap adjustment means using the head lifting mechanism. Thus, the head gap is adjusted to the reference head gap corresponding to the filter region. As a result, in each filter region, it is possible to perform ejection with a reference head gap defined corresponding to the filter region. For this reason, it is possible to perform ejection with a head gap adapted to each filter region. For example, in the filter area where the required landing position accuracy is high, by performing discharge with a narrow head gap, the high landing position accuracy is maintained, and in the filter area where the required landing position accuracy is low, if the low landing position accuracy is By discharging with a wide head gap that can be secured, the liquid material can be arranged efficiently. In this way, the required landing position accuracy is reduced due to the impact of landing position errors, which may reduce manufacturing efficiency due to excessively small head gaps, or increase due to large head gaps. It can be suppressed that it cannot be secured.
Application Example 14 In the color filter manufacturing apparatus according to the application example, it is preferable that the gap sensor is provided on each side of the head unit in the main scanning direction.
According to this color filter manufacturing apparatus, the gap sensors are provided on both sides of the head unit. Therefore, even if the mother substrate moves relative to the head unit from either side in the main scanning direction, the mother sensor Since the substrate first faces the gap sensor and then faces the head unit, the head gap can be measured by the gap sensor prior to ejection from the ejection head.
Application Example 15 In the color filter manufacturing apparatus according to the application example, it is preferable that the reference head gap is defined according to the size of the color element area included in the filter area.
According to this color filter manufacturing apparatus, the reference head gap is defined in accordance with the size of the color element area, which is a continuous area on which the liquid material is landed.
Since the color element region is a continuous region in which the liquid material is landed, if the landed within the same color element region, there is substantially no problem due to the landing position being shifted. Therefore, if the color element area is large, the standard of landing position accuracy can be relaxed. By defining the reference head gap according to the size of the color element region, it is possible to discharge the liquid material with an appropriate head gap according to the required landing position accuracy.
Application Example 16 In the color filter manufacturing apparatus according to the application example described above, it is preferable that the reference head gap is defined in accordance with a tolerance of a position where the liquid material is disposed in the filter region.
According to this color filter manufacturing apparatus, the reference head gap is defined in accordance with the allowable error of the position where the liquid material is arranged in the filter region.
Application Example 17 In the color filter manufacturing apparatus according to the above application example, the discharge head further includes discharge timing adjustment means for adjusting discharge timing at which the liquid material is discharged, and the discharge timing adjustment means includes the reference head. It is preferable that the discharge timing is adjusted by changing the discharge timing corresponding to the gap.
According to this color filter manufacturing apparatus, the discharge timing adjusting means adjusts the discharge timing by changing the discharge timing in accordance with the reference head gap.
By changing the head gap, the moving distance in the main scanning direction until the discharged liquid material lands changes. Therefore, when the head gap is different, the timing at which ejection is performed differs for the same landing position. Since the head gap is adjusted to be the reference head gap, the liquid material can be discharged at an appropriate discharge timing with respect to the position to be landed by adjusting the discharge timing corresponding to the reference head gap. it can.
Application Example 18 A color filter manufacturing method according to this application example is a color element film that constitutes a color filter using the droplet discharge device according to the application example or the liquid material arranging method according to the application example. The liquid material containing the material is arranged in a region where the color element film is formed on the mother substrate for forming the color filter.
According to this color filter manufacturing method, even if there is a change in the position of the surface of the substrate due to waviness or unevenness in thickness, the position of the discharge head can be adjusted appropriately so as to follow the change. Due to the impact of landing position errors that can reduce manufacturing efficiency or increase to produce with a large head gap. The color filter is formed using a droplet discharge device or a liquid material arranging method that can prevent the required landing position accuracy from being secured. Thereby, the required landing position accuracy can be ensured, a highly accurate color filter can be realized, and the manufacturing efficiency can be prevented from being impaired.
Application Example 19 In the electro-optical device manufacturing apparatus according to this application example, each of one or more head units having one or more discharge heads that discharge a liquid material containing a material constituting the functional film of the electro-optical device. An electro-optical device manufacturing apparatus comprising: a head unit; and a main scanning mechanism that relatively moves the ejection head and a mother substrate on which the ejected liquid material is landed in a main scanning direction, the mother substrate; A head elevating mechanism that individually moves the head unit in a head gap increasing / decreasing direction that is a distance in the direction of separation from the ejection head in the head unit; a gap sensor that measures the head gap; The head unit is moved by the head lifting mechanism in accordance with the measurement result of the gap sensor, thereby Comprising a gap adjusting means for adjusting the-up, wherein the gap sensor, in the main scanning direction, relative to the mother board, characterized in that it is moved relative to the head unit substantially integral.
According to the electro-optical device manufacturing apparatus, the head gap is adjusted according to the head gap measured by the gap sensor that is relatively moved relative to the mother substrate substantially integrally with the head unit. As a result, the head gap can be adjusted in accordance with the actual head gap for each region where the liquid material is disposed. Therefore, even if there is a change in the position of the surface of the mother board due to waviness or unevenness in the thickness of the mother board, an appropriate head gap can be maintained by adjusting the position of the ejection head to follow the change. can do.
Application Example 20 In the electro-optical device manufacturing apparatus according to the application example described above, the electro-optical film region corresponding to the electro-optical film region including the functional film region that is a continuous region on which the liquid material is landed to form the functional film. Reference head gap acquisition means for acquiring a reference head gap which is a head gap is further provided, wherein the gap adjustment means corresponds to the electro-optical film area, and the head gap corresponds to the electro-optical film area. It is preferable to adjust the head gap so as to be a gap.
According to the electro-optical device manufacturing apparatus, the reference head gap defined corresponding to the electro-optical film region is acquired by the reference head gap acquisition unit, and the head unit is moved up and down by the gap adjustment unit using the head lifting mechanism. As a result, the head gap is adjusted to the reference head gap corresponding to the electro-optic film region. Accordingly, in each electro-optical film region, it is possible to perform ejection with a reference head gap defined corresponding to the electro-optical film region. Therefore, ejection can be performed with a head gap suitable for each electro-optic film region. For example, in the electro-optic film region where the required landing position accuracy is high, by performing discharge with a narrow head gap, high landing position accuracy is maintained, and in the electro-optic film region where the required landing position accuracy is low, a low landing position By discharging with a wide head gap that can be ensured with accuracy, the liquid material can be arranged efficiently. In this way, the required landing position accuracy is reduced due to the impact of landing position errors, which may reduce manufacturing efficiency due to excessively small head gaps, or increase due to large head gaps. It can be suppressed that it cannot be secured.
Application Example 21 A method for manufacturing an electro-optical device according to this application example is a function of configuring the electro-optical device using the droplet discharge device according to the application example or the liquid material arranging method according to the application example. A liquid material including a film material is disposed in a region where the functional film is formed on a mother substrate for forming the electro-optical device.
According to this method of manufacturing an electro-optical device, even if there is a variation in the position of the surface of the substrate due to waviness or uneven thickness, the position of the ejection head is adjusted so as to follow the variation, The impact of landing position errors that can maintain an adequate head gap and can reduce manufacturing efficiency due to manufacturing with an excessively small head gap or increase to manufacture with a large head gap Thus, the functional film constituting the electro-optical device is formed using a droplet discharge device or a liquid material arranging method that can prevent the required landing position accuracy from being secured. Accordingly, it is possible to secure necessary landing position accuracy, to realize an electro-optical device having a highly accurate functional film, and to prevent the manufacturing efficiency from being impaired.

An embodiment of a droplet discharge device will be described with reference to the drawings, taking as an example an inkjet droplet discharge device incorporated in a color filter production line and used to form a filter film as a color element film. In the drawings referred to in the following description, the vertical and horizontal scales of members or portions may be shown differently from actual ones for convenience of illustration.
<Droplet ejection method>
First, a droplet discharge method used for forming a functional film such as a filter film will be described. The droplet discharge method has an advantage that the use of the material is less wasteful and a desired amount of the material can be accurately disposed at a desired position. Examples of the discharge technique of the droplet discharge method include a charge control method, a pressure vibration method, an electromechanical conversion method, an electrothermal conversion method, and an electrostatic suction method.
Among them, the electromechanical conversion method uses the property that a piezoelectric element (piezoelectric element) deforms in response to a pulsed electric signal, and a flexible substance is placed in a space where material is stored by deformation of the piezoelectric element. The pressure is applied through this, and the material is pushed out from this space and discharged from the discharge nozzle. Since the piezo method does not apply heat to the liquid material, it does not affect the composition of the material, and has the advantages that the droplet size can be easily adjusted by adjusting the driving voltage. In this embodiment, since the composition of the material is not affected, the degree of freedom in selecting the liquid material is high, and since the size of the droplet can be easily adjusted, the controllability of the droplet is good. The above piezo method is used.

<Configuration of LCD panel>
Next, a liquid crystal display panel as a liquid crystal device which is an example of an electro-optical device, which is a liquid crystal display panel including a color filter will be described.
First, the configuration of the liquid
As shown in FIG. 8, the liquid

<Target landing area>
Next, the relationship between the shape of the placement area, which is the area where the functional liquid in the drawing target is to be placed, and the landing target area, which is the area where droplets should land in order to place the functional liquid in the placement area, Reference is made to FIG.
The liquid droplets of the functional liquid are ejected so as to land at a predetermined position on the drawing target. However, there is a possibility that the liquid will land at a position shifted by an error caused by various error factors with respect to the predetermined landing position. is there. In order to ensure that the liquid droplets land in the placement area, which is the area where the functional liquid should be placed, a range that takes into account errors so that the liquid droplets can land in the placement area even if an error caused by an error factor occurs. The functional liquid is discharged toward A range in consideration of the error is referred to as a landing target region. FIG. 14 is an explanatory diagram showing the relationship between the shape of the filter film region and the landing target region.
As described above, the

Causes of landing position errors in the main scanning direction include error in flight time of ejected droplets, error in rising interval of latch signal, and start time of latch signal due to head gap error and fluctuation. Misalignment etc. are mentioned.
Causes of errors in the sub-scanning direction include “bends” in which the flight direction of the ejected functional liquid deviates in the sub-scanning direction, misalignment errors in the sub-scanning direction of the
Since these error factors depend on the accuracy of the
The
In order to prevent the

Next, in step S28, the functional liquid is moved from the
Step S28 is implemented and the process of disposing the functional liquid is completed.
Note that Step S26, Step S27, and Step S28, which are actual discharge processes that are started after Step S25, are performed substantially in parallel. When the
More precisely, the position where the measured position faces the
As described above, one
Hereinafter, effects of the embodiment will be described. According to the present embodiment, the following effects can be obtained.
(1) Since the
(3) The
(4) The
As mentioned above, although preferred embodiment was described referring an accompanying drawing, suitable embodiment is not restricted to the said embodiment. The embodiment can of course be modified in various ways without departing from the scope, and can also be implemented as follows.
(Modification 1) In the above embodiment, the
(Modification 2) In the embodiment, the reference head gap is defined for each filter region. However, it is not essential to define the reference head gap for each region. You may discharge by a uniform head gap with respect to the whole base material.
(Modification 3) In the above embodiment, the standard of the landing position accuracy when the functional liquid is disposed is fixed, and the reference head gap uniformly applies the reference of the landing position accuracy, Alternatively, the reference head gap defined in accordance with the size of the

(Modification 5) In the above-described embodiment, the
