Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a droplet discharge method, a droplet discharge device, an electro-optical device, and an electronic apparatus.
A droplet discharge head of an ink jet printer is capable of discharging minute ink droplets in a dot shape, and has extremely high accuracy in terms of ink droplet size and pitch uniformity. This technique has been applied to the manufacturing field of various products such as electro-optical devices. For example, it can be applied when forming a film such as a color filter layer of a liquid crystal device or a light emitting portion of an organic EL display device.
However, the volume of the droplet is extremely small compared to the volume of the discharged portion, and in the above method, only one droplet is landed in the short direction of the discharged portion in one scan, so that In this scanning, the amount of the functional liquid discharged to the discharged portion is much smaller than the originally required amount. Since the number and pitch of the nozzles are constant, that is, the number of droplets that land in the longitudinal direction of the ejected portion is constant, the number of scans is required to drop a required amount of droplets onto the ejected portion. It must be covered by increasing the number, and the efficiency is poor. In addition, when the discharge efficiency is poor as described above, the manufacturing efficiency of the electro-optical device itself is also lowered.
In view of the circumstances as described above, an object of the present invention is to provide a droplet discharge method, a droplet discharge device, an electro-optical device, and an electronic apparatus that can improve discharge efficiency.
In order to achieve the above object, a droplet discharge method according to the present invention is a droplet discharge method for discharging a droplet of a functional liquid onto the substrate while relatively scanning the substrate and the discharge head facing each other. On the substrate, there are provided a plurality of discharge target portions that are provided in a rectangular shape and land the functional liquid, and the discharge head has a length of the discharge target portion facing the substrate. A plurality of nozzles for discharging the functional liquid at a first pitch shorter than the dimension in the short direction of the discharge target portion in a direction substantially coincident with the direction; In the discharge of the functional liquid, the plurality of functions are moved at a second pitch shorter than the first pitch in the short direction of each discharged portion in the discharge of the functional liquid. It is characterized in that liquid droplets are landed.
According to the present invention, the liquid droplets of the functional liquid are landed in the short direction of the discharged portion at a second pitch that is shorter than the first pitch that is shorter than the dimension of the discharged portion in the short direction. A plurality of liquid droplets can be landed in the short direction of the discharged portion. As a result, a required amount of droplets can be dropped onto the discharge target portion even with a small number of scans, and the discharge efficiency can be improved. There is also an advantage that the number of droplets ejected in one scan can be set by appropriately setting the second pitch.
A liquid droplet ejection apparatus according to another aspect of the present invention is a liquid droplet ejection apparatus that ejects functional liquid droplets from the ejection head onto the substrate while the ejection head is opposed to the substrate and relatively scanned. On the substrate, there are provided a plurality of discharge target portions that are provided in a rectangular shape and land the functional liquid, and the discharge head has a length of the discharge target portion facing the substrate. A plurality of nozzles that discharge the functional liquid at a first pitch that is shorter than a dimension in a short direction of the discharge target portion in a direction that substantially coincides with the discharge direction; The plurality of functional liquids move at a second pitch shorter than the first pitch in the short direction of each of the discharged parts in discharging the functional liquid. In order for the droplets to land, Wherein the control unit for controlling at least one of timing at which the liquid droplets are ejected from the moving speed and the nozzle is provided.
According to the present invention, the control unit controls at least one of the scanning speed of the ejection head and the timing at which the functional liquid droplets are ejected from the plurality of nozzles, thereby scanning the ejection head from the first pitch. However, since the liquid droplets of the functional liquid can be landed on the portion to be ejected so that the second pitch is shorter, a plurality of liquid droplets can be landed in the short direction. As a result, a required amount of droplets can be dropped onto the discharge target portion with a small number of scans, and the discharge efficiency can be improved.
An electro-optical device according to another aspect of the invention includes a substrate on which a functional liquid is discharged by the droplet discharge method described above.
According to the present invention, functional liquid droplets are ejected by a liquid droplet ejection method that can drop a required amount of liquid droplets onto a portion to be ejected with a small number of scans and can improve ejection efficiency. Therefore, an electro-optical device with high manufacturing efficiency and low cost can be obtained.
An electronic apparatus according to another aspect of the present invention includes the above-described electro-optical device.
According to the present invention, since an electro-optical device with high manufacturing efficiency and low cost is mounted, an electronic apparatus with high cost performance can be obtained.

Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. In the following drawings, the scale is appropriately changed to make each member a recognizable size.

As shown in FIG. 2A, the
In addition, an overcoat layer (not shown) is formed on the
As shown in FIG. 2B, for one
(Droplet discharge device)
Next, a droplet discharge apparatus (hereinafter referred to as “discharge apparatus”) 100 according to the present embodiment will be described.
As shown in FIG. 3, the
The
The

The carriage
As described above, the
That is, by moving both or one of the

As shown in the figure, the

FIG. 5 is a view showing the
In addition, on the
In addition, the position of each
Since each of the
Similarly, the fifth nozzle from the both ends of the
In the present specification, among the 90
Next, the internal configuration of the
In addition, a plurality of

Next, the configuration of the

As shown in FIG. 7, the
The
The
The
As shown in FIG. 8A, the
The drive
In addition to the timing of ejection, for example, when performing an operation of ejecting the

First, the process of forming the color filter side mother substrate will be briefly described.
The base 10 </ b> A is held on the

Here, based on FIG. 10, the pitch of the
As shown in the figure, the liquid material 111 (the
The value of the pitch a in the X direction is equal to the nozzle pitch and corresponds to the above-described LNP (see FIG. 5). The value of a (LNP value: about 140 μm) is set to a value smaller than the value of the dimension S in the short direction of the ejected portion 18 (see FIG. 2B: about 170 μm). Further, the value of the pitch b in the Y direction is set to a value smaller than the value of the pitch a in the X direction, for example, a value in the range of 10 μm to 70 μm. The value of the pitch b in the Y direction can be set to a desired value, for example, by controlling the ejection timing and scanning speed of the
The
In a state where the
The subsequent steps will be briefly described. On the
Next, with respect to the formation of the active matrix side mother substrate, wiring, electrodes, etc. are formed on a large base material made of a light-transmitting material such as glass or plastic, and the area where the wiring, electrodes, etc. are formed is flat. A chemical film is formed. After the planarization film is formed, an alignment film made of polyimide or the like is formed, and a rubbing process is performed on the alignment film.
Next, the color filter side mother substrate and the active matrix side mother substrate are bonded together in a panel shape. Both substrates are brought close to each other so that the active matrix side mother substrate adheres to the sealing material on the color filter side mother substrate. After that, scribe lines are formed on both bonded mother substrates, the panel is cut along the scribe lines, each cut panel is cleaned, and a drive driver or the like is mounted on each panel. A
