Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing an organic EL element used for an organic EL (electroluminescence) display panel or the like in which an organic light emitting layer is made of a polymer material, and particularly to an organic EL element in which an organic light emitting layer is formed by a printing method. The present invention relates to a device manufacturing method and an organic EL device manufactured by this method.
In the organic EL element, an organic light emitting layer made of an organic light emitting material is provided between two electrodes facing each other, and light is emitted by applying a voltage to both electrodes and passing a current through the organic light emitting layer. In order to make such an organic EL element emit light efficiently, the film thickness of the organic light emitting layer is important, and it is necessary to form a thin film of about 100 nm. Furthermore, in order to make an organic EL element into a display panel, it is necessary to pattern with high definition.
The organic light emitting material for forming the organic light emitting layer includes a low molecular material and a polymer material. Generally, an organic light emitting layer using a low molecular material is formed into a thin film by a vacuum deposition method or the like. In this case, the organic light emitting layer is patterned using a fine pattern mask. However, this method has a problem that the patterning accuracy is less likely to increase as the substrate becomes larger. In addition, since the film is formed in a vacuum, there is a problem that the throughput is poor.
Therefore, recently, a method of forming a thin film using a wet coating method in which a polymer material is dissolved in a solvent to form a coating liquid has been tried. In the case of forming an organic light emitting medium layer including an organic light emitting layer by a wet coating method using a coating liquid of a polymer material, the layer structure is such that a hole transport layer and an organic light emitting layer are arranged in this order on a pixel electrode which is an anode. A two-layer structure is generally laminated. At this time, the organic light emitting layer is formed by dissolving or stably dispersing organic light emitting materials having respective emission colors of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) in a solvent in order to form a color panel. It is necessary to coat with organic luminescent ink (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
By the way, the inventors of the present application formed an insulating layer pattern in a box shape so as to surround an electrode on a TFT (thin film transistor) substrate, and a general honeycomb-shaped anilox flat plate or roll of about 150 lpi and a convex pattern of a dot pattern. When the hole transport layer and the organic light emitting layer are patterned by a relief printing method using a relief plate having a portion, the dot-like relief portion of the relief plate and the non-recessed portion of the anilox plate or roll (the portion where the ink is not adhered) In some cases, the ink may not be supplied to the convex portions of the relief printing plate, resulting in a portion where pixels are not formed even when printed, and the problem of non-light emission or short-circuiting when the organic EL display panel emits light. there were.
The above problems can be solved by increasing the definition of honeycomb-shaped anilox flat plates or rolls. However, the concentration of luminescent materials and hole transport materials is around 2% due to the solubility of polymer materials. It is necessary to lower. For this reason, a high-definition anilox flat plate or roll becomes inconvenient as an organic EL display panel because it becomes thinner than a desired film thickness.
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems. In spite of using the relief printing method, the non-transferred portion and the short-circuit are prevented by preventing the transfer of the hole transport layer and the organic light-emitting layer. It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for producing an organic EL element that can form a high-definition dot-like pattern and facilitate display panel formation, and an organic EL element produced thereby.
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a substrate, a pixel electrode formed on the substrate corresponding to an array pattern of display pixels, and a hole transport layer and an organic light emitting layer laminated on the pixel electrode. A method for manufacturing an organic EL element, in which the hole transport layer and the organic light emitting layer of an organic EL element having at least the above are formed by letterpress printing, wherein a plurality of protrusions arranged in an array pattern corresponding to the pixel electrode are formed. A rotary plate cylinder provided with a relief plate having an anilox body that supplies hole transport ink and organic light-emitting ink to the convex portion, and the anilox body matches the multiple convex portions. A plurality of recesses formed on the surface of the body for holding the hole transport ink or the organic light-emitting ink, and the relief plate and the anion are arranged so that the recesses coincide with the arrangement pattern of the projections. Hole transport ink held in the recess of the anilox body by sequentially moving the relief plate and the anilox body in the same direction at the same speed in a state in which the metal block body is aligned, so that the protrusion faces the recess. The organic light emitting ink is transferred to the convex portion, and the hole transport ink or the organic light emitting ink transferred to the convex portion is transferred onto the pixel electrode.
The organic EL device of the present invention is formed by using the manufacturing method according to claim 1.
In the organic EL element and the manufacturing method thereof according to the present invention, a large number of concave portions corresponding to the large number of convex portions projecting from the peripheral surface of the relief plate corresponding to the pixel electrodes are formed on the surface of the anilox body. The hole transport ink or organic light emission held in the recess of the anilox body by moving the relief plate and the anilox body in the same direction at the same speed while aligning the relief plate and the anilox body so that the recesses coincide with the arrangement pattern of Since the ink is transferred to the convex portion, and the hole transport ink and the organic luminescent ink transferred to the convex portion are transferred onto the pixel electrode in that order, the anilox body to the convex portion of the relief plate In addition to eliminating coating defects with hole-transporting inks and organic light-emitting inks, there is no non-light-emitting pixel area in panel light emission, and there is no defect such as short circuit. It is possible to obtain an organic EL device.

In addition, the organic EL element concerning this invention and its manufacturing method are not limited to embodiment described below.
In addition, the letterpress printing method in the present invention refers to a printing method in which the pixel portion has a convex shape in a broad sense, that is, all printing methods using a letterpress. The letterpress printing method described in the present invention is a rubber plate or A printing method using a relief plate made of a resin plate will be shown. Also, among those skilled in the printing industry, those using rubber letterpress are called flexographic printing, and those using resin letterpress are called to distinguish from resin letterpress printing, but in the present invention, both are not particularly distinguished, letterpress printing method I will call it. Currently, photosensitive rubber plates and resin plates are mainly used for the relief printing system, but the material of the relief plate is also diversified, and the distinction between photosensitive rubber plates and photosensitive resin plates. In the present invention, this distinction is not particularly provided, and both are called photosensitive resin relief plates.
Hereinafter, an example in which the present embodiment is applied to an active matrix driving type organic EL display panel will be described. There are a passive matrix type and an active matrix type as a driving method of the organic EL element. However, the organic EL element in the present embodiment can be applied to either a passive matrix type organic EL element or an active matrix type organic EL element. Is possible.
The passive matrix method is a method in which stripe-shaped electrodes are opposed to each other so as to be orthogonal to each other, and light is emitted from the intersection. On the other hand, the active matrix method uses a so-called thin film transistor (TFT) substrate in which a transistor is formed for each pixel. In this way, light is emitted independently for each pixel.

Further, as shown in FIG. 3, a large number of

In this embodiment, the photosensitive resin plate used for the
Moreover, it is preferable that the protrusion height of the
In the present embodiment, the Shore hardness of the resin material used for the
The viscosity of the hole transport layer ink is preferably 5 to 80 mPa · s. This is because, in the relief printing method used in this embodiment, the ink is first transferred from the anilox roll 22 onto the
Next, after forming the
These organic light emitting materials are dissolved or stably dispersed in a solvent to form an organic light emitting ink. Examples of the solvent for dissolving or dispersing the organic light-emitting material include toluene, xylene, acetone, anisole, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, cyclohexanone, or a mixed solvent thereof. Among these, aromatic organic solvents such as toluene, xylene, and anisole are preferable from the viewpoint of solubility of the organic light emitting material. Moreover, surfactant, antioxidant, a viscosity modifier, a ultraviolet absorber, etc. may be added to organic luminescent ink as needed.

Although printing of organic light-emitting ink is different, the
Next, the

An auxiliary electrode (not shown) provided in the active matrix driving organic EL display device in the present embodiment is provided in a non-pixel region on the
The method for forming the auxiliary electrode is not particularly limited as long as it is selected according to the material, but a method capable of directly forming a pattern on the
The auxiliary electrode can be provided anywhere as long as it is a non-pixel region, but the upper part of the insulating
As the organic
The sealing
Examples of the material of the
Finally, the organic

Next, examples of the present invention will be described.
Here, trial manufacture and measurement were performed for the following Example 1 and Comparative Examples 1 to 3. As the

Next, 80 parts by weight of Vitron AI-4083, which is a PEDOT solution, and 20 parts by weight of isopropyl alcohol were mixed and prepared as hole transporting inks to prepare inks having a viscosity of 15 mPa · s. The size of the

Thereafter, calcium is deposited to a thickness of 20 nm by vacuum deposition to form the

FIG. 4 shows the evaluation results of the dot pattern shapes of the hole transport layer and the organic light emitting layer in Example 1 and Comparative Examples 1 to 3 as described above, and the evaluation result of the display state of the produced organic EL display. . As is apparent from FIG. 4, it was found that the pattern shape of the organic light emitting medium layer, the occurrence of leakage current, and the light emission state (light emission unevenness) were better in the example of the present invention than in the comparative example.
On the other hand, in the case of Comparative Example 1, as is apparent from FIG. 4, although the pattern shape of the organic light emitting medium layer is good, a leakage current is generated due to pixel omission and light emission unevenness occurs.
Further, in the case of Comparative Example 2, as is apparent from FIG. 4, there is a problem that although the leak current does not occur, the pattern shape of the organic light emitting medium layer becomes non-uniform and color mixing occurs in the light emission. In the case of Comparative Example 3, as in Comparative Example 2, there is a problem that although no leak current is generated, the pattern shape of the organic light emitting medium layer becomes non-uniform and color mixing occurs in light emission.
