Abstract
Description
The present invention belongs to the field of nanotechnology, and particularly relates to a novel technique capable of producing a metal oxide crystal of nanometer order by a wet method.
Metal oxides have been used for various applications in the past, and in particular, metal oxide crystals with a nanometer order size can exhibit characteristics and functions resulting from their ultrafine size and structure. Application in fields such as semiconductor gas sensors, light-emitting devices, and catalysts is expected.
A wet method based on a reaction in a solution for producing a metal oxide has an advantage that the composition can be made uniform more easily than a case where a solid phase reaction is used. The conventional wet method for preparing a metal oxide based on a solution reaction is a method in which a metal salt (metal compound) as a raw material is reacted in an aqueous solution to form a metal hydroxide, which is then fired at a high temperature. Yes (for example, Patent Document 1), which is disadvantageous in terms of operation and cost. There is no technique that can produce nanometer order metal oxide crystals directly from solution reactions.
An object of the present invention is to provide a new technique capable of producing a wide variety of metal oxide nanoparticles (nanocrystals) by a wet method.
As a result of repeated studies, the present inventor has achieved the above object by devising means capable of causing a solution reaction between a metal salt and an alkali dissolved in a polar organic solvent, and has derived the present invention.

Since the method of the present invention can produce various nanometer-sized metal oxides directly from solution reaction, it is a very simple, useful and inexpensive process. The obtained metal oxide nanocrystal can be used as a sol dispersed in water or the like, which is advantageous for producing a spin coat thin film on a substrate, for example.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described along the respective steps constituting the method for producing metal oxide nanocrystals of the present invention. In addition, FIG. 1 is a flowchart showing them as a whole for easy understanding.
Preparation of metal salt mixed solution: Step (I)
In order to produce a metal oxide nanocrystal according to the present invention, first, a metal salt that is a source (raw material) of a target metal oxide is dissolved in a first polar solvent, and further, a second polar solvent is used. A mixed solution of metal salts (that is, a mixed solvent solution of a first polar solvent and a second polar solvent) is prepared by mixing with a certain polar organic solvent.
The metal salt to be used is applicable as long as it is an electrolyte, and examples thereof include acetate, nitrate, and chloride of the target metal, which may be hydrated or non-hydrated. Removed. In addition, the present invention can be applied to various types of metals excluding alkali metals and alkaline earth metals. That is, according to the present invention, it is possible to produce metal oxide nanocrystals from metal salts such as various metals including transition metals and rare earth metals.
The first polar solvent used in the mixed solution preparation step of the metal salt according to the present invention is a step of dissolving the metal salt and preparing a polar organic solvent (second polar solvent) solution by heating [step (II) ] Has a lower boiling point than the second polar solvent so that it is evaporated. Preferred as the first polar solvent satisfying this condition is methanol, ethanol or water.
On the other hand, the polar organic solvent (second polar solvent) has a high dielectric constant and can have a high boiling point so that the subsequent reaction under reflux conditions [Step (V)] can proceed sufficiently. is there. Preferable examples of the polar organic solvent (second polar solvent) satisfying this include triethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol, and triethylene glycol is particularly preferable.
Preparation of metal salt in polar organic solvent: Step (II)
Next, the mixed solution of the metal salt prepared as described above is heated to prepare a polar organic solvent solution of the metal salt. That is, by this step, the first polar solvent (methanol, ethanol, water, etc.) is removed, and when hydrate is used as the metal salt, the crystal water is removed, and the metal salt is substantially reduced. A polar organic solvent solution dissolved only in the polar organic solvent (second polar solvent) is obtained.
When methanol, ethanol or water is used as the first polar solvent, this step is performed at a temperature of 90 to 120 ° C. For example, it is generally performed by heating at a temperature of 120 ° C. for 2 to 3 hours, but when the first polar solvent is methanol, it may be sufficiently heated at 90 ° C.
By this step, the residual water content is eliminated or reduced as much as possible according to the type of the target metal oxide. In general, water is removed so that the amount is at least 10% by weight or less, preferably about 5% by weight or less based on the metal salt. If the water in the polar organic solvent solution of the metal salt is excessive, the desired metal oxide nanocrystal may not be obtained.
Preparation of alkali mixed solution: Step (III)
In the production of metal oxide nanocrystals by a wet method according to the present invention, a mixed solvent is prepared in advance for alkali, and a polar organic solvent solution is also prepared as described later. That is, first, an alkali is dissolved in a first polar solvent, and further mixed with a polar organic solvent, which is a second polar solvent, to obtain a mixed solution of alkali (a first polar solvent and a second polar solvent. A mixed solvent solution) is prepared.
Here, the alkali used in the present invention is a strong alkali that does not decompose or evaporate in the subsequent step of preparing a polar organic solvent (second polar solvent) solution of alkali (step (IV)). However, strong alkali containing metal (for example, NaOH, KOH, etc.) and ammonia are excluded. Suitable alkalis that satisfy this condition and are used in the present invention include tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAH) and tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAH).
A preferred first polar solvent for preparing an alkali mixed solution according to the present invention dissolves the above alkali and prepares a subsequent step of preparing an alkaline polar organic solvent (second polar solvent) solution [step (IV )] Has a lower boiling point than the second polar solvent so that it is evaporated. The first polar solvent that satisfies this condition is preferably water or methanol.
On the other hand, the polar organic solvent (second polar solvent) used in this step has a high dielectric constant and can be heated so that the subsequent reaction under the refluxing condition (step (V)) proceeds sufficiently. It has a high boiling point. Preferable examples of the polar organic solvent (second polar solvent) satisfying this include triethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol, as in the case of the step (I) described above. Particularly preferred.
Preparation of alkaline polar organic solvent solution: Step (IV)
In the production of metal oxide nanocrystals according to the present invention, the alkali mixed solution prepared as described above is heated to prepare an alkaline polar organic solvent solution. That is, by this step, the first polar solvent (water, methanol, etc.) is removed, and a polar organic solvent solution in which the alkali is substantially dissolved only in the polar organic solvent (second polar solvent) is obtained.
This step is also performed by heating at 90 to 120 ° C. for 2 to 3 hours when water or methanol is used as the first polar solvent, but when the first polar solvent is methanol. May be heated sufficiently at 90 ° C. Also in this step, water in the polar organic solvent solution is eliminated or reduced as much as possible.
Mixing and refluxing of organic solvent solution: Step (V)
In the method of the present invention, a polar organic solvent solution of a metal salt prepared as described above and an alkaline polar organic solvent are mixed and refluxed. Surprisingly, by reacting a metal salt and an alkali in a polar organic solvent in this way, crystals of a metal oxide on the order of nanometers can be obtained only by solution reaction without passing through high-temperature firing ( (See Examples below).
In carrying out this step (V), after mixing and stirring the polar organic solvent solution of the metal salt and the alkaline polar organic solvent, and before subjecting to the reflux operation, the step (II) or step described above It is preferable to heat at about the same condition as (IV), for example, at 120 ° C. for about 1 hour.
The refluxing condition depends on the polar organic solvent to be used, but when triethylene glycol exemplified as a preferred polar organic solvent is used, it is carried out at 250 ° C. for about 12 hours, for example.

It can be used for further use as a uniform metal oxide nanocrystal. Alternatively, as another form, the metal oxide nanocrystals are separated from the product of the refluxing step (V), washed, and then dispersed in water or alcohol, so that a stable sol can be obtained without using a surfactant or the like. Can also be used as

Further, triethylene glycol was mixed with a methanol solution of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAH) or tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAH). These two mixed solutions are heated at 120 ° C. for 2 to 3 hours, respectively, and methanol (ethanol), water of crystallization, etc. are removed to obtain a metal salt triethylene glycol solution and TBAH (or TPAH) triethylene glycol solution. Prepared. Next, these two solutions were mixed, heated again at 120 ° C. for 1 hour, and then refluxed at 250 ° C. in the atmosphere for 12 hours. The obtained product was separated by salting-out with addition of ammonium nitrate and centrifugation, washed, dried at 120 ° C. (however, Zn was dried at 60 ° C.), and the crystal structure was identified by X-ray diffraction. Further, re-dispersion in water or ethanol was performed, and the particle size was evaluated by laser particle size distribution measurement.
