Abstract
Description
The present invention also has a heat exchanger for cooling or radiating heat, and is preferably used for an air conditioner, a cold storage, a cooling of a heating element, a thermoelectric power generation, and the like, and particularly suitable for an application for cooling or heating an automobile seat. About.
Conventionally, thermoelectric elements using the Peltier effect have been widely used in thermostats, refrigerators, semiconductor manufacturing apparatuses and the like as thermoelectric modules for cooling applications. Moreover, since both cooling and heating are possible by reversing an electric current, it is used also for the use of a cold storage and an air conditioner. Furthermore, since this thermoelectric module can also take out electricity by giving a temperature difference, it attracts attention as a thermoelectric power generation apparatus.
As a typical structure of these thermoelectric modules, as shown in FIG. 1, wiring conductors (electrodes) 2a and 2b are formed on the surfaces of
The amount of heat absorbed in the thermoelectric module is radiated from the heat radiating surface, and at the same time, the heat radiating surface needs to radiate the heated Joule heat. Therefore, in order to use the energy of heat absorption or heat generation in a cold storage or air conditioner, it is necessary to make the heat radiation surface easy to radiate heat. If the heat dissipation characteristics are poor, the amount of heat that cannot be dissipated moves to the cooling surface, which greatly reduces the cooling characteristics. Therefore, it is particularly important to improve the heat dissipation characteristics in order to increase the cooling efficiency of the thermoelectric module.
As a method of improving the heat dissipation characteristics of the heat dissipation surface, it is ideal to join a water-cooled heat sink with high heat dissipation characteristics, but since the water-cooling structure is complicated and large, generally fins or fans, It is used by adhering a heat exchanger such as a fan with fins to the heat dissipation surface. In addition to using a heat exchanger on the cooling surface, not only can it be used for both cooling and heating, but air can be used to cool or dissipate the fins by air. It can be used as a simple air conditioner.
However, a thermoelectric module having a heat exchanger used for both cooling and heating still has a coefficient of performance (COP) indicated by the ratio of power consumption to cooling performance (cooling performance / power consumption), which is still less than 1 in the practical range. In comparison with
In such a viewpoint, the above-mentioned adhesive, adhesive, or grease bonding cannot be said to have good heat dissipation characteristics because of their low thermal conductivity, and also contains pores or tends to cause thickness variations. It is difficult to improve performance stability. In particular, since these adhesive materials are mixed with organic components, when used for a long time under high-temperature and high-humidity conditions, such as those for automobiles, the adhesion is deteriorated due to the modification of the organic components, and the durability is not sufficient. There is.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to obtain a thermoelectric module having high heat dissipation characteristics and excellent long-term reliability in a high temperature and high humidity environment.
The thermoelectric module of the present invention for solving the above problems is provided with a support substrate, a plurality of thermoelectric elements arranged on one main surface side of the support substrate, and between the thermoelectric element and the support substrate. In the thermoelectric module comprising an electrode that electrically connects adjacent thermoelectric elements and a heat exchanger disposed on the other main surface side of the support substrate, the support substrate is a metal plate, A connecting member made of metal for connecting the metal plate and the heat exchanger is disposed between the metal plate and the heat exchanger.
In the present invention, the connecting member is preferably a solder, and the solder is a Pb-free solder whose main component is at least one selected from the group consisting of Sn, Bi, Ag, Cu, Au, Zn, and In. The thickness of the solder is more preferably 5 μm or more.
Between the metal plate and the electrode in the present invention, a resin layer mainly composed of at least one selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, polyamideimide, epoxy and polyethylene terephthalate is disposed. The resin layer preferably contains a filler made of an inorganic oxide or an inorganic nitride, and the thickness of the resin layer is more preferably 0.01 mm or more.
In the present invention, the thickness of the metal plate may be 0.5 mm or less, and the metal plate and / or the heat exchanger may be copper or aluminum.
According to the thermoelectric module of the present invention, since the heat exchanger is connected to the metal plate as the support substrate by the connecting member made of metal, the organic component such as grease, conductive adhesive, and adhesive is removed. Compared with the case where the heat exchanger is joined using a material containing a large amount, the thermal resistance can be greatly reduced, so that the efficiency of the thermoelectric module can be increased. In addition, since the connecting member does not contain an organic component, there is little denaturation under high temperature and high humidity, and long-term stable performance can be obtained even under high temperature and high humidity conditions such as for automobiles.
In addition, when the resin layer is disposed between the metal plate and the electrode, the electrical insulation state between the electrode, the metal plate, and the heat exchanger is maintained, and the heat exchanger can be reliably insulated. In addition, when the resin layer is mainly composed of at least one selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, polyamideimide, epoxy and polyethylene terephthalate, it is possible to suppress deterioration of the resin in a high-temperature and high-humidity atmosphere and use it for a long time. It becomes. Furthermore, when the resin layer contains a filler made of oxide or nitride, the thermal conductivity of the resin can be increased and the heat dissipation characteristics can be improved. Further, when the thickness of the resin layer is 0.01 mm or more, the durability of the electrical insulation performance can be stably maintained at a high level.
Further, when solder is used as the connecting member, the solder works to relieve the stress against thermal stress or deformation, so that excellent durability is exhibited even under use conditions in which cooling or heat dissipation is repeated. When this solder is a Pb-free solder whose main component is at least one selected from the group consisting of Sn, Bi, Ag, Cu, Au, Zn, and In, it is possible to reduce the environmental impact by containing Pb. At the same time, since these solders have high adhesion, the connection strength between the heat exchanger and the metal plate can be increased. Furthermore, when the thickness of the solder is 5 μm or more, a part of the solder spreads to the side surface of the heat exchanger and the joining area between the heat exchanger and the metal plate is increased, so that the joining strength can be increased. It is possible to reduce thermal resistance and variations in thermal resistance, and reduce performance variations in thermoelectric modules.
Further, when the thickness of the metal plate is 0.5 mm or less, the flexibility of the thermoelectric module is improved and the stress against deformation of the thermoelectric module can be relaxed, so that the durability of the module can be improved. . Furthermore, when the metal plate and / or the heat exchanger is copper or aluminum, the heat dissipation performance of the thermoelectric module can be further improved.
As described above, according to the present invention, a thermoelectric module having excellent heat dissipation characteristics and durability characteristics can be obtained. By using the thermoelectric module of the present invention for a cold storage room, an air conditioner, etc., cooling efficiency is high, It can be used for a long time even in a humid environment.
FIG. 2 is a sectional view showing a thermoelectric module according to an embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in FIG. 2, the thermoelectric module according to the present embodiment includes a pair of metal plates 6 including
In the thermoelectric module having such a structure, heat absorption or heat dissipation generated in the
In the present invention, it is important that the
Specifically, in an automobile, for example, since it is exposed to a wide range of temperatures and humidity ranges such as a temperature of −10 ° C. to 80 ° C. and a humidity of 10 to 85%, in the case of a connecting member such as grease containing an organic component, Adhesion and thermal conductivity are impaired by weight reduction due to evaporation or volatilization, but the
Further, according to the present invention, the connecting
The thickness of the connecting
The thickness of the metal plate 6 is 0.5 mm or less, preferably 0.1 to 0.3 mm, from the viewpoint of relaxing thermal stress. If the thickness exceeds 0.5 mm, the rigidity becomes high and the film cannot be easily deformed, causing stress concentration, which may reduce repeated durability characteristics.
The metal plate 6 forms an insulating layer on the surface opposite to the surface connected to the
The
The material constituting the metal plate 6 and / or the
In the present invention, the
Next, a method for manufacturing the thermoelectric module according to the present embodiment will be described. First, a thermoelectric element made of a thermoelectric material manufactured by a known technique is prepared. As this thermoelectric material, bismuth and tellurium materials are preferable in that high thermoelectric characteristics can be obtained. Thermoelectric materials include melted and solidified materials once melted, sintered materials obtained by pulverizing alloy powders and sintered by hot pressing, single crystal materials solidified in one direction by the Bridgeman method, etc. Although it can be used, single crystal materials are particularly preferable because of their high performance.
Using these thermoelectric materials, thermoelectric elements are produced by a known technique. As a method for manufacturing a thermoelectric element, there is a method in which an ingot is sliced, a reaction preventing layer is formed by plating, vapor deposition, thermal spraying, or the like with nickel, and then dicing is performed to obtain an element. In addition, it is costly to coat a single crystal rod with an environment-resistant epoxy resin or other plating-resistant resin, and then cut and deposit nickel on the cut surface only by electrolytic plating or electroless plating. It is preferable for further preventing corrosion due to moisture. Further, it is preferable to dispose a Sn or Au layer on the nickel layer in order to improve the connectivity with the connecting member.
Next, the metal plate 6 and the insulating substrate described above are prepared. In the present invention, the insulating substrate is preferably the
Next, the
Next, the metal plate 6 attached to both surfaces of the obtained thermoelectric element and the
When connecting using solder, after printing the solder on the metal plates 6 on both sides,
Since the thermoelectric module obtained as described above does not use an organic component such as grease in the connection portion between the
In addition, this invention is not limited to the said embodiment, A support substrate is a metal plate, The connection member which consists of a metal for these connection between this metal plate and a heat exchanger is arrange | positioned. The various thermoelectric modules currently used are included.
Examples of the present invention are shown below.
First, a thermoelectric element having a size of 1.5 mm square and an insulating substrate having the size shown in Table 1 and a size of 40 mm × 40 mm were prepared. Next, a corrugated fin made of copper, aluminum, iron, and brass as a heat exchanger and having a joint surface size of 40 mm × 40 mm with a metal plate was prepared. The surface of the heat exchanger other than copper was subjected to Sn plating. The following three types of methods were used as a method for producing a thermoelectric module and a method for connecting fins.
(Method 1) Connection with solder: The metal plate shown in Table 1 was thermocompression bonded to one main surface of the insulating substrate. On the other main surface of the insulating substrate, copper having a thickness of 105 μm was wired in a predetermined pattern as a wiring conductor (electrode). Then, the thermoelectric element was joined to the electrode with 80Au-20Sn solder to produce a thermoelectric module. Next, the solder of the kind and thickness shown in Table 1 was printed on a metal plate, the heat exchanger and the thermoelectric module were bonded, and then processed in a reflow furnace while being pressurized at 0.1 to 0.5 MPa. The reflow temperature was 50 to 100 ° C. higher than the melting point of the solder used.
(Method 2) Connection by metal brazing: Using a connection member shown in Table 1, a metal plate and a heat exchanger were joined in a vacuum furnace at a temperature 50 to 100 ° C. higher than the melting point of the brazing material. Next, the heat exchanger in which the insulating substrate and the metal plate are connected is thermocompression bonded, and finally, the thermoelectric module is joined to the insulating substrate with the wiring conductor in which the thermoelectric element and the heat exchanger are connected with 80Au-20Sn solder. Got.
(Method 3) Connection with grease and conductive adhesive: A thermoelectric module was produced in the same procedure as the method of joining with solder, and then a heat exchanger was connected. After applying the connecting member shown in Table 1 to the connecting surface, pressurization of 0.1 to 0.5 MPa was applied for connection.
In Table 1, sample No. 1 outside the present invention using grease other than metal as a connecting member between the metal plate and the heat exchanger. In 9 to 11, although the initial cooling capacity was relatively high, after the endurance test of 10,000 cycles, the cooling capacity decreased to 81 to 84% compared to the initial stage. Moreover, the cooling capacity after 1000 hours of operation at a humidity of 80% was greatly reduced to 50 to 56% compared to the initial stage. On the other hand, Sample No. which is within the scope of the present invention. In samples 1 to 8 and 12 to 35, the sample No. Except for No. 22, the initial cooling capacity is 28 W or more, the cooling characteristics after the endurance test of 10,000 cycles are as high as 85% or more, and the change rate after operating for 1000 hours at 80% humidity is as high as 89% or more. It was confirmed that the product of the present invention was excellent in the inversion operation and durability under high humidity.
