Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an organic EL element and an organic EL element utilizing an electroluminescence (hereinafter abbreviated as EL) phenomenon of an organic thin film.
The organic EL element includes a conductive organic light-emitting layer and a transparent electrode layer and a counter electrode layer disposed on both sides in the thickness direction of the organic light-emitting layer, and a transparent electrode layer on a translucent substrate, It is manufactured by laminating and forming an organic light emitting layer and a counter electrode layer in this order. Then, a voltage is applied to the organic light emitting layer to inject electrons and holes for recombination, and the organic light emitting layer emits light during this combination.
Here, in order to increase the light emission efficiency of the organic light emitting layer, a hole transport layer is provided between the transparent electrode layer serving as the anode and the organic light emitting layer, or the counter electrode layer serving as the cathode and the organic light emitting layer are provided. An electron transport layer may be provided between the two.
However, the following problems remain in the conventional method for manufacturing an organic EL element. In other words, the conventional method for manufacturing an organic EL element has a problem that when the surface of the transparent electrode layer has irregularities, the irregularities may not be uniformly coated. The organic light emitting layer, the hole transport layer, and the electron transport layer are each formed using a solution of a functional material composed of a polymer material, and as the concentration of the solution increases, the solution This is due to the increase in the viscosity of the. As a result, it is impossible to cover the unevenness present on the surface of the printing target until the solution printed on the surface of the printing target using the printing method is dried. Accordingly, a high load may be applied because a high electric field is locally applied to a thin portion of the organic light emitting layer.
Therefore, it is necessary to flatten the surface of the electrode layer separately by polishing the surface of the transparent electrode layer after forming the transparent electrode layer on the substrate.
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems. An organic EL element manufacturing method and an organic EL device in which the unevenness is covered with an organic light emitting medium layer without being affected by the unevenness existing on the surface of the transparent electrode layer. An object is to provide an EL element.
The present invention employs the following configuration in order to solve the above problems. That is, the organic EL device manufacturing method of the present invention forms a first electrode layer on a substrate, has at least one functional layer on the first electrode layer, and emits light by applying a voltage. In the method of manufacturing an organic EL element, in which an organic light emitting medium layer is formed and a second electrode layer is formed on the organic light emitting medium layer, at least one of the functional layers is formed of a low molecular material having a molecular weight of 5000 or less It is formed by applying an ink containing a functional material composed of
In the organic EL device of the present invention, a second electrode layer is provided on the first electrode layer via an organic light emitting medium layer having at least one functional layer, and the first and second electrode layers are interposed between the first and second electrode layers. In the organic EL element in which the organic light emitting medium layer emits light by applying a voltage, at least one of the functional layers is formed of a functional material composed of a low molecular material having a molecular weight of 5000 or less. It is characterized by that.
According to this invention, the unevenness existing on the surface of the first electrode layer is covered by the leveling property of the applied ink and the surface is flattened, so that a high electric field is locally applied to the organic light emitting medium layer. It can be prevented from being applied to prevent a great load from being applied, and the life can be extended. That is, since the functional material is composed of a low-molecular material, fluidity and leveling properties can be maintained even when the concentration of the functional material in the ink increases as the ink dries. Thereby, even if unevenness exists on the surface of the application target to which the ink is applied, the unevenness can be covered. Therefore, the yield can be improved and the layer thickness can be made uniform, so that the withstand voltage is improved and the luminance during light emission can be increased.
In addition, since it is not necessary to separately perform a flattening process such as polishing on the surface of the first electrode, the manufacturing process can be simplified and the manufacturing cost can be reduced. Furthermore, the use of a low molecular material facilitates purification as compared with the use of a high molecular material, and makes it difficult to contain impurities that cause deterioration of life and characteristics, so that the material cost can be reduced.
In the method for producing an organic EL element of the present invention, the organic light emitting medium layer is preferably formed so as to cover the entire top surface of the first electrode.
In the organic EL device of the present invention, the organic light emitting medium layer is preferably formed so as to cover the entire top surface of the first electrode layer.
According to this invention, even if the functional layer formed of the low molecular material is a large unevenness such as a step existing between the periphery of the first electrode layer and the substrate, the side surface can be covered. The opening area of the pixel can be increased. That is, when the second electrode layer is formed on the upper surface of the organic light emitting medium layer, a short circuit between the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer is prevented, so that the organic light emitting medium layer is formed on the first electrode layer. There is no need to form the first electrode layer so as to avoid the peripheral portion, and the opening area of the pixel can be increased.
Moreover, the manufacturing method of the organic EL element of this invention is good also as apply | coating the said ink by the transfer using a relief printing method.
According to this invention, the ink is transferred onto the surface of the application target using the relief printing method, and the functional layer formed of the low molecular material is printed on the surface of the application target.
Moreover, the manufacturing method of the organic EL element of this invention is good also as apply | coating the said ink by the transfer using a letterpress inversion offset method.
According to this invention, the functional layer formed of the low molecular weight material is printed using the relief reverse printing method. Here, since the ink is made of a low molecular material and the viscosity can be maintained in the same manner as described above, the cutting performance of the ink applied to the printing blanket surface is improved, and the shape according to the pattern is obtained. be able to.
In the organic EL device manufacturing method of the present invention, the ink may be ejected and fixed with fine droplets of the ink.
According to this invention, the functional layer is printed by fixing the ink using a so-called inkjet printing method. Here, since the ink is made of a low molecular material and the viscosity can be maintained even when the concentration increases, it is possible to prevent clogging of the ejection port that ejects the fine droplets of the ink.
According to the method for producing an organic EL element and the organic EL element of the present invention, the functional material is composed of a low-molecular material, so that even if the surface to be coated has unevenness, the unevenness can be covered. The yield can be improved, the withstand voltage can be improved, and the luminance during light emission can be increased. Furthermore, since it is not necessary to separately perform a planarization process on the surface of the first electrode, the manufacturing process can be simplified and the manufacturing cost can be reduced.

As the counter electrode layer 6, a single metal such as lithium, magnesium, calcium, ytterbium, or aluminum, or an alloy or a multilayer body of these with a stable metal such as gold or silver is used in accordance with the light emission characteristics of the light emitting layer. Alternatively, a conductive oxide such as indium, zinc, or tin can be used. These materials are formed by vacuum deposition such as normal resistance heating and EB heating, sputtering, or the like.
Next, a method for manufacturing the organic EL element 1 having the above configuration will be described.
First, the
Next,
Then, the

Then, the ink is supplied to the

Subsequently, the counter electrode layer 6 is formed. This is formed by disposing a mask having a strip-shaped opening on the organic
Finally, the

In addition, this invention is not limited to the said embodiment, A various change can be added in the range which does not deviate from the meaning of this invention.
For example, in the above embodiment, the organic EL element 1 has a passive matrix structure, but may have an active matrix structure. The active matrix structure has a configuration in which wiring such as a thin film transistor and a signal line connected thereto is formed on the
Further, an electron transport layer may be laminated on the upper surface of the organic

Further, a thin film such as lithium fluoride may be provided between the counter electrode layer 6 and the organic light emitting

According to this invention, regarding the manufacturing method of an organic EL element and the organic EL element, the unevenness is covered by the organic light emitting medium layer without being affected by the unevenness existing on the surface of the transparent electrode layer, and can be used industrially.
