Abstract
Description
本発明は、トナーの製造方法およびトナーに関するものである。 The present invention relates to a toner manufacturing method and a toner.
電子写真方式を採用するプリンタ、複写機、ファクシミリなどの画像形成装置にあっては、トナーを用いて、紙などの記録媒体に画像を形成する。
このようなトナーの製造方法としては、トナーを構成する樹脂を含む分散質が分散媒中に微分散した分散液を用いて、分散質由来の微粒子を凝集して凝集体を形成し、これをトナー粒子とするものが知られている(例えば、特許文献1参照。)。
In image forming apparatuses such as printers, copiers, and facsimiles that employ an electrophotographic system, an image is formed on a recording medium such as paper using toner.
As a method for producing such a toner, a dispersion liquid in which a dispersoid containing a resin constituting the toner is finely dispersed in a dispersion medium is used to agglomerate fine particles derived from the dispersoid to form an aggregate. A toner particle is known (for example, see Patent Document 1).
特許文献1では、前述したような分散液を撹拌しながら加熱することにより、分散液中で分散質同士を凝集させ、これを、前記分散液を冷却後、濾過・洗浄することにより取り出して、分散質由来の微粒子が凝集した凝集体を得る。また、このような特許文献1では、前記分散液として、樹脂を主材料とする分散質が分散した樹脂分散液と、着色剤を主材料とする剤分散質が分散した着色剤分散液とを混合したものを用いている。 In Patent Document 1, the dispersion liquid as described above is heated while being stirred to aggregate the dispersoids in the dispersion liquid, and this is taken out by cooling and filtering / washing the dispersion liquid, An aggregate in which fine particles derived from the dispersoid are aggregated is obtained. In Patent Document 1, such a dispersion includes a resin dispersion in which a dispersoid mainly composed of a resin is dispersed, and a colorant dispersion in which an agent dispersoid mainly composed of a colorant is dispersed. A mixture is used.
However, in the method according to Patent Document 1, since the size of the aggregate is determined by the cohesive force between the dispersoids, the particle size and shape of the obtained aggregate tend to vary greatly. In particular, when the dispersion of the particle size of the dispersoid is large, the cohesive force between the dispersoids also varies.
Toners using agglomerates with large variations in particle size and shape have very different characteristics among the toner particles, and therefore, when the toner particles are frictionally charged with each other, charging failure occurs or the toner particles are transferred to the photosensitive drum. When electrostatically attaching (transferring), there is a risk of causing transfer failure. In addition, a toner having a large variation in particle size and shape has low durability, and as a result, it is difficult to form a good image over a long period of time.
In addition, as described in Patent Document 1, when the mixed liquid of the resin dispersion liquid and the colorant dispersion liquid is used as the dispersion liquid as in Patent Document 1, the colorant is the main material when the dispersoids aggregate. This also causes a problem that the dispersoids aggregate. As a result, the content of the colorant in the aggregates varies among the aggregates.
A toner using an aggregate having a large variation in the content of the colorant in the aggregate between the aggregates has low color developability and transparency when an image is formed on an OHP sheet, for example.
本発明の目的は、均一な形状を有するとともに、粒度分布の幅の小さいトナーを製造することができるトナーの製造方法およびトナーを提供することにある。 An object of the present invention is to provide a toner production method and a toner capable of producing a toner having a uniform shape and a narrow particle size distribution.
このような目的は、下記の本発明により達成される。
本発明のトナーの製造方法は、樹脂を主材料とする分散質が分散媒中に微分散した分散液を用いて、トナーを製造する方法であって、

前記液滴から分散媒を除去し、前記分散質由来の複数個の微粒子が凝集した凝集体を得る分散媒除去工程とを有することを特徴とする。

The method for producing a toner of the present invention is a method for producing a toner using a dispersion in which a dispersoid mainly composed of a resin is finely dispersed in a dispersion medium,
A droplet forming step of forming a droplet of the dispersion by passing the dispersion through the pores of the porous body having continuous pores;
A dispersion medium removing step of removing a dispersion medium from the droplets to obtain an aggregate in which a plurality of fine particles derived from the dispersoid are aggregated.
これにより、分散液の液滴間における液滴中の分散質の数および粒径の均一化を図ることができるので、均一な形状を有するとともに、粒度分布の幅の小さいトナーを製造することができる。
また、多孔質体を用いているため、比較的耐久性の高い構成で、分散液の液滴を形成することができるので、長期にわたり粒径の均一化の図られたトナーを安定的に得ることができる。
As a result, the number of dispersoids in the droplets and the particle size among the droplets of the dispersion can be made uniform, so that a toner having a uniform shape and a narrow particle size distribution can be manufactured. it can.
In addition, since the porous body is used, it is possible to form the droplets of the dispersion liquid with a relatively high durability, and thus it is possible to stably obtain a toner having a uniform particle diameter over a long period of time. be able to.
本発明のトナーの製造方法では、前記液滴形成工程において、前記多孔質体の空孔を通過した分散液が前記多孔質体から離脱するのを促進させる離脱促進手段を用いることが好ましい。

As a result, the dispersion liquid that has passed through the pores of the porous body can be effectively detached from the porous body to form droplets of the dispersion liquid. Can be achieved more effectively.
In the method for producing a toner of the present invention, it is preferable that the detachment promoting means increases an internal pressure of a dispersion liquid storage portion that defines a part of a space for storing the dispersion liquid with a plate-like porous body.
Accordingly, the dispersion liquid that has passed through the pores of the porous body can be effectively separated from the porous body while efficiently forming droplets of the dispersion liquid.
In the toner manufacturing method of the present invention, it is preferable that the internal pressure is periodically changed.
In this way, in response to fluctuations in the internal pressure of the dispersion liquid storage part, the dispersion liquid that has passed through the pores of the porous body is effectively separated from the porous body to form droplets of the dispersion liquid. Therefore, the particle size of the droplets of the dispersion can be made uniform more effectively.
本発明のトナーの製造方法では、前記離脱促進手段は、前記多孔質体の空孔の出口近傍において分散液に振動を付与することが好ましい。
これにより、多孔質体の空孔を通過した分散液を多孔質体からより確実に離脱させて、分散液の液滴を形成することができるので、分散液の液滴の粒径の均一化をより効果的に図ることができる。
In the toner manufacturing method of the present invention, it is preferable that the separation promoting means imparts vibration to the dispersion near the outlet of the pores of the porous body.
As a result, the dispersion liquid that has passed through the pores of the porous body can be more reliably detached from the porous body to form dispersion liquid droplets, so that the liquid droplet diameter can be made uniform. Can be achieved more effectively.

In the method for producing a toner of the present invention, the porous body is preferably composed of glass as a main material.
Since glass is excellent in durability (mechanical strength, heat resistance, chemical resistance), a toner having a uniform particle size can be obtained more reliably and stably over a long period of time.
Further, when the porous body is made of glass as a main material, pores having a uniform distribution and diameter can be formed, so that the toner can have a uniform particle diameter and shape.
In addition, a porous body made of glass as a main material can be designed with a relatively low porosity (pore diameter), so that the degree of freedom in designing toner can be increased. .

Thereby, in the dispersion medium removing step, an aggregate can be obtained as an aggregate of the first dispersoid and the second dispersoid.

And it is preferable to have the mixing process of obtaining the said dispersion liquid.
As a result, the particle size and shape of the first dispersoid and the second dispersoid in the discharged dispersion liquid can be made uniform, so that the particle size and shape can be made uniform in the dispersion medium removing step. Aggregates can be obtained as aggregates of the illustrated first and second dispersoids. As a result, it is possible to obtain a toner having a uniform shape and a narrow particle size distribution.
In addition, the number of the fine particles derived from the first dispersoid and the fine particles derived from the second dispersoid in the aggregate among the obtained aggregates can be made uniform. As a result, variation in the content of the colorant in the toner particles among the toner particles can be reduced.
本発明のトナーの製造方法では、前記第2の分散質の平均粒径は、前記第1の分散質の平均粒径よりも小さいことが好ましい。
これにより、第1の分散質の周囲に第2の分散質が均一に存在するようにして、凝集体を得ることができるので、トナー粒子表面に露出する着色剤の量を低減しつつ、トナー粒子間でのトナー粒子中における着色剤の含有量のバラツキも抑えることができる。
In the toner manufacturing method of the present invention, it is preferable that an average particle size of the second dispersoid is smaller than an average particle size of the first dispersoid.
Thus, the second dispersoid can be uniformly present around the first dispersoid to obtain an agglomerate, so that the amount of the colorant exposed on the toner particle surface can be reduced, and the toner can be reduced. Variation in the content of the colorant in the toner particles between the particles can also be suppressed.
本発明のトナーの製造方法では、前記第1の分散質の平均粒径をDm1とし、前記第2の分散質の平均粒径をDm2としたときに、Dm1およびDm2が0.1<Dm2/Dm1<0.5なる関係を満足することが好ましい。
これにより、第1の分散質同士の隙間に第2の分散質を存在させるようにして、凝集体を得ることができるので、第1の分散質の周囲に第2の分散質をより均一に存在させることができる。

Aggregates can be obtained as aggregates of the first dispersoid, the second dispersoid, and the third dispersoid that are uniform in diameter and shape. As a result, it is possible to obtain a toner having a uniform shape and a narrow particle size distribution.
In addition, the number of the fine particles derived from the first dispersoid, the fine particles derived from the second dispersoid, and the fine particles derived from the third dispersoid in the aggregate among the obtained aggregates can be made uniform. . As a result, variation in the content of the colorant and the release agent in the toner particles among the toner particles can be reduced.

As a result, the third dispersoid can be obtained by allowing the third dispersoid to exist in the gap between the first dispersoids, so that the third dispersoid can be more uniformly distributed around the first dispersoid. Can exist.

Thereby, the dispersibility of the dispersoid in the dispersion liquid can be further enhanced, and the dispersoid in the dispersion liquid can have a relatively small particle size and a particularly small variation in size. In addition, since the dispersion liquid can be prepared without substantially using an organic solvent or using a very small amount of an organic solvent, it is possible to produce a toner by a method that hardly causes adverse effects on the environment. it can.

<Preparation of first dispersion (resin dispersion)>
(First method)
First, an aqueous solution in which a dispersant and / or a dispersion medium is added to water or a liquid excellent in compatibility with water (water-soluble liquid) as necessary is prepared.
On the other hand, a resin liquid containing a resin as a main component of the toner or a precursor thereof (hereinafter collectively referred to as “resin material”) is prepared. For the preparation of the resin liquid, for example, the above-described solvent may be used in addition to the resin material. The resin liquid may be a molten liquid obtained by heating a resin material.
Next, the resin liquid is gradually added dropwise to the stirred aqueous solution, whereby the
(Second method)
The first dispersion can also be prepared by the following method (second method).
First, an aqueous solution is prepared by adding a dispersant and / or a dispersion medium as necessary to water or a liquid having excellent compatibility with water.
On the other hand, a powdery or granular material containing a resin material is prepared.

Moreover, in the preparation method of the above 1st dispersion liquid, when using multiple types of resin as a resin material, you may use the kneaded material containing multiple types of resin material (binder resin). That is, as the “resin material” in the first method described above, a kneaded material containing a plurality of types of resin materials may be used, and as the “powdered or granular material” in the second method, a plurality of types are used. A kneaded material containing the resin material may be used. Thereby, for example, toner particles can be obtained as a mixture in which each constituent component is more uniformly mixed. In particular, even when the toner includes two or more components having poor dispersibility and compatibility, the above-described effects can be obtained. In addition, as a kneaded material, what contains components other than a resin component can be used, for example. Thereby, the above effects become more remarkable.
In addition, for example, a method described in Japanese Patent Application No. 2003-113428 may be applied to the preparation of the first dispersion. That is, a liquid containing a powdered or granular resin material (kneaded material) is ejected from a plurality of nozzles, the liquids ejected from the nozzles collide with each other, and the resin material (kneaded material) is atomized to form fine particles.

The toner manufacturing method of the present invention includes a droplet forming step of forming the droplets of the
The droplet forming step and the dispersion medium removing step can be performed using, for example, a toner manufacturing apparatus 1 as illustrated. Hereinafter, the toner manufacturing apparatus 1 and the method for manufacturing aggregates and toner particles using the toner manufacturing apparatus 1 will be described in detail.

The toner manufacturing apparatus 1 includes a

As shown in FIG. 2, the

The air holes 231 are continuous air holes, and are formed so as to allow the dispersion
At this time, the
In such a droplet formation step, it is preferable to use a separation promoting means that promotes the
In this embodiment, the
また、前記超音波振動が分散液貯留部21にも及ぶので、分散液貯留部21内での分散質同士の凝集を効果的に防止することができる。また、空孔231を形成する壁面にも前記超音波振動が及ぶので、空孔231の目詰まりを防止することができる。
また、超音波振動子24は、後述する固化部3の壁面に接触している。これにより、固化部3の壁面にも超音波振動が付与されるので、固化部3の壁面に対して分散液6の液滴が付着するのを防止することができる。
Further, since the ultrasonic vibration extends to the dispersion
Moreover, the ultrasonic transducer |
The vibration is preferably a vibration in a direction substantially perpendicular to the discharge direction of the
Further, the separation promoting means may be configured by making the pressure of the
The porous body preferably has an average diameter of the
Further, the detachment promoting means can also be configured by having a liquid repellency in the vicinity of the
Examples of a method for imparting such liquid repellency to the porous body include treatment with a coupling agent, formation of a film composed of a hydrophobic material (for example, the above-described material having liquid repellency), and the like. It is done.
Further, it is preferable that the vicinity of the
Moreover, it is preferable that the porosity of the said porous body is 20-80 vol%, and it is more preferable that it is 40-70 vol%. Thereby, the droplets of the
The porous body is preferably made of glass as a main material. Examples of the porous body made of glass as a main material include shirasu porous glass (SPG). Since glass is excellent in durability (mechanical strength, heat resistance, chemical resistance), a toner having a uniform particle size can be obtained more reliably and stably over a long period of time.
また、ガラスを主材料として多孔質体を構成すると、均一な分布および径の空孔を形成することができるので、トナーの粒径および形状の均一化をより確実に図ることができる。
また、ガラスを主材料として構成された多孔質体は、その空孔率(細孔径)を任意のものに比較的簡単に設計することができるので、トナー製造における設計自由度を高めることができる。
Further, when the porous body is made of glass as a main material, pores having a uniform distribution and diameter can be formed, so that the toner can have a uniform particle diameter and shape.
In addition, a porous body made of glass as a main material can be designed with a relatively low porosity (pore diameter), so that the degree of freedom in designing toner can be increased. .
また、吐出部23を構成する多孔質体は、ヘッド部2に対して着脱自在とすることが比較的簡単にできる。この場合、製造するトナーの粒径に応じて、多孔質体を交換することにより、様々な粒径のトナーの製造に対応することができる。また、メンテナンスも容易であり、万一多孔質体に不具合を生じても、多孔質体を交換することにより比較的簡単に対応できる。
Further, the porous body constituting the
Further, the temperature of the dispersion liquid 6 (
Further, the
また、分散液6の一滴分の吐出量は、分散液6中に占める第1の分散質611や第2の分散質612の含有率等により若干異なるが、0.05〜500plであるのが好ましく、0.5〜5plであるのがより好ましい。分散液6の一滴分の吐出量をこのような範囲の値にすることにより、凝集体9を適度な粒径のものにすることができる。その結果、最終的に得られるトナー粒子についても、適度な粒径のものにすることができる。
Further, the discharge amount of one drop of the
Incidentally, the
また、吐出される分散液6の平均粒径をDd[μm]、製造されるトナー粒子の平均粒径をDt[μm]としたとき、0.05≦Dt/Dd≦1.0の関係を満足するのが好ましく、0.1≦Dt/Dd≦0.8の関係を満足するのがより好ましい。このような関係を満足することにより、十分に微細で、かつ、円形度が大きく、粒度分布がシャープなトナーを比較的容易に得ることができる。
Further, when the average particle size of the discharged
また、本発明では、吐出液として分散液を用いている。これにより、以下のような効果が得られる。
すなわち、吐出液として分散液を用いることにより、吐出部から吐出液(分散液)を吐出する際に、微視的に粘度の低い分散媒の部分で選択的に切断され、液滴として吐出される。このため、吐出される分散液の大きさは、各液滴で大きさのバラツキが小さいものとなる。したがって、最終的に得られるトナーは、各粒子(トナー粒子)間での大きさのバラツキが小さいものとなる。
In the present invention, a dispersion is used as the discharge liquid. Thereby, the following effects are obtained.
That is, by using the dispersion liquid as the discharge liquid, when discharging the discharge liquid (dispersion liquid) from the discharge section, it is selectively cut at the portion of the dispersion medium that is microscopically low in viscosity and discharged as droplets. The For this reason, the size of the discharged dispersion liquid is small in size variation among the droplets. Accordingly, the finally obtained toner has a small variation in size among the particles (toner particles).
そして、吐出部から吐出された液滴は、分散媒の表面張力により、吐出後速やかに球形状となる。さらに、分散液で構成された液滴は、固化部内を搬送される際においても、形状の安定性に優れており、略球形状を保持した状態で固化する。したがって、最終的に得られるトナー(トナー粒子)は、円形度が大きく、各粒子間での形状のバラツキが小さいものとなる。 And the droplet discharged from the discharge part becomes spherical shape immediately after discharge by the surface tension of the dispersion medium. Furthermore, the droplets composed of the dispersion liquid are excellent in shape stability even when being transported in the solidification section, and solidify while maintaining a substantially spherical shape. Therefore, the finally obtained toner (toner particles) has a high degree of circularity and a small variation in shape between the particles.
On the other hand, when a solution or a melt is used as the discharge liquid, such an effect cannot be obtained. That is, since such a discharge liquid has a uniform viscosity even when viewed microscopically, when the liquid is discharged from the discharge portion, the so-called liquid breakage is likely to be in a bad state, and the liquid droplets are tailed. It tends to be a shape that pulls. Moreover, when it is conveyed in the solidification part, it tends to have a shape with a tail as described above. Therefore, when a solution or a melt is used as the discharge liquid, the finally obtained toner (toner particles) has large variations in size and shape between the particles, and the circularity of the toner particles is small. easy.

Further, as shown in FIG. 2, the toner manufacturing apparatus 1 includes a gas flow supply unit 10, and the gas supplied from the gas flow supply unit 10 passes through the

Moreover, the humidity of the gas injected from the
In addition, the temperature in the solidification unit 3 from which the

Specifically, the temperature in the solidification unit 3 from which the
In particular, the temperature in the solidification unit 3 from which the
The
The particle diameters of the
Further, since the

In the illustrated configuration, the pressure in the
ハウジング31内の圧力は、特に限定されないが、150kPa以下であるのが好ましく、100〜120kPaであるのがより好ましく、100〜105kPaであるのがさらに好ましい。ハウジング31内の圧力が前記範囲内の値であると、例えば、異形状の凝集体9の発生等を十分に防止しつつ、液滴状の分散液6から分散媒62(分散媒62を構成する溶媒材料)を、より円滑に除去することができる。
Although the pressure in the
Further, in the above description, the

Usually, the toner particles and the aggregate 9 as a production intermediate thereof are positively or negatively charged. For this reason, if there is a charged substance charged with a polarity different from that of the aggregate 9 (dispersion 6), a phenomenon occurs in which the aggregate 9 is electrostatically attracted and attached to the charged substance. On the other hand, if there is a charged substance charged with the same polarity as the aggregate 9, the charged substance and the aggregate 9 repel each other, effectively preventing the phenomenon that the aggregate 9 adheres to the surface of the charged substance. be able to. Therefore, by applying a voltage having the same polarity as that of the granular dispersion liquid 6 (aggregate 9) to the inner surface side of the

The aggregate 9 obtained as described above may be subjected to various treatments such as aeration, vacuum degassing (vacuum degassing), heating and the like before being subjected to a joining step described later. By subjecting the aggregate 9 to aeration, the amount of dispersion medium (for example, water content) remaining in the aggregate 9 can be reduced, and as a result, a joining step (joining process) described later is more suitable. Can be done. That is, by reducing the amount of the dispersion medium remaining in the aggregate 9, the bonding process (bonding process) can be performed in a short time while effectively preventing deterioration and modification of the constituent materials of the aggregate 9. It can be done efficiently.
The water content (water content) of the aggregate 9 is not particularly limited, but is preferably 15 wt% or less, more preferably 0.1 to 12 wt%, and further preferably 0.2 to 10 wt%. preferable. When the water content in the agglomerate 9 is too large, it is difficult to efficiently perform the joining process described later, and it may be difficult to sufficiently reduce the water content in the final toner particles. When a relatively large amount of water is contained in the toner particles, there is a possibility that charging may become unstable. In this step (dispersion medium removing step), it is not necessary to reduce the water content (water content) of the aggregate 9 more than necessary. That is, even when the aggregate 9 contains a relatively large amount of the dispersion medium (water), the dispersion medium remaining in the joining step or the like as described later can be removed. In this step, if the water content (water content) of the aggregate 9 is decreased more than necessary, the constituent materials of the aggregate 9 are likely to be deteriorated and modified.
Thereafter, the agglomerate 9 obtained as described above can be subjected to a joining process in which a plurality of fine particles constituting the agglomerate 9 are melt-joined (joining step).
As described above, once the aggregate is formed, the toner particles having a uniform shape (in particular, a substantially spherical shape having a large degree of circularity) are obtained by having a bonding step of melt-bonding the fine particles constituting the aggregate. The toner particles can be reliably obtained and the mechanical stability of the obtained toner particles can be made excellent. That is, after the dispersion medium removing step as described above, after obtaining an aggregate having a certain degree of shape stability and a relatively high circularity (substantially spherical shape), a joining step (joining treatment) ), The shape and size of the aggregate is basically maintained, the degree of unevenness existing near the surface of the aggregate is relaxed, and the fine particles derived from the dispersoid constituting the aggregate By improving the bonding strength (bonding strength) between the toner particles, toner particles having a substantially spherical shape with a high degree of circularity and excellent mechanical stability can be obtained.
The treatment temperature in the joining step (joining treatment) is generally at least the glass transition point of the resin material constituting the resin fine particles (the resin material constituting the first dispersoid 611). Thereby, a plurality of fine particles constituting the aggregate 9 can be more reliably bonded to each other, and the mechanical strength (mechanical stability) of the finally obtained toner particles is particularly excellent. it can. In addition, by performing a bonding step (bonding process) at a temperature equal to or higher than the glass transition point of the resin material that forms the resin fine particles (the resin material that forms the first dispersoid 611), the toner particles finally obtained have a circular shape. The degree (sphericity) can be made relatively large easily and reliably.
接合工程(接合処理)における処理温度は、分散媒除去工程における処理温度よりも高いのが好ましい。これにより、微粒子の溶融接合を、より円滑に進行させることができる。また、凝集体9中に比較的多量の分散媒62等が含まれる場合であっても、分散媒等の含有量(残存量)を効果的に低減させることができ、さらには、最終的なトナー粒子中に実質的に分散媒等が残存しないようにすることができる。
The treatment temperature in the joining step (joining treatment) is preferably higher than the treatment temperature in the dispersion medium removing step. Thereby, the fusion | melting joining of microparticles | fine-particles can be advanced more smoothly. Further, even when a relatively large amount of the
More specifically, when the treatment temperature in the dispersion medium removing step is T 1 [° C.] and the treatment temperature in the joining step is T 2 [° C.], the relationship of 0 ≦ T 2 −T 1 ≦ 200 is satisfied. Is preferable, 10 ≦ T 2 −T 1 ≦ 200 is more preferable, 20 ≦ T 2 −T 1 ≦ 100 is more preferable, and 25 ≦ T 2 −T 1 ≦ 80. It is most preferable to satisfy this relationship. By satisfying such a relationship, the uniformity and stability of the shape of the obtained toner particles are sufficiently high while sufficiently preventing deterioration and modification of the constituent components, and further, the circularity of the toner particles is increased. It can be relatively large.
Further, when the treatment temperature in the joining step (joining treatment) is T 2 [° C.] and the melting point of the resin material constituting the toner particles (resin material constituting the first dispersoid 611) is Tm [° C.], − It is preferable that the relationship 100 ≦ T 2 −Tm ≦ 110 is satisfied, more preferably the relationship −80 ≦ T 2 −Tm ≦ 80 is satisfied, and the relationship −50 ≦ T 2 −Tm ≦ 70 is satisfied. Is more preferable, and it is most preferable that the relationship of −40 ≦ T 2 −Tm ≦ 30 is satisfied. By satisfying such a relationship, the uniformity and stability of the shape of the obtained toner particles are sufficiently high while sufficiently preventing deterioration and modification of the constituent components, and further, the circularity of the toner particles is increased. It can be relatively large. When the resin material constituting the toner particles (resin material constituting the first dispersoid 611) is composed of a plurality of types of resin materials (resin components), the weight of each of these components is denoted as Tm. A value obtained as a reference weighted average value can be adopted.
また、特に、接合工程(接合処理)における処理温度は、トナー粒子を構成する樹脂材料(第1の分散質611を構成する樹脂材料)のガラス転移点以上で、かつ、トナー粒子を構成する樹脂材料(第1の分散質611を構成する樹脂材料)の融点以下の温度であるのが好ましい。これにより、上記のような効果をさらに顕著なものとして発揮させることができる。 In particular, the treatment temperature in the joining step (joining treatment) is not less than the glass transition point of the resin material constituting the toner particles (the resin material constituting the first dispersoid 611) and the resin constituting the toner particles. The temperature is preferably equal to or lower than the melting point of the material (the resin material constituting the first dispersoid 611). Thereby, the effects as described above can be made more remarkable.
また、接合工程(接合処理)における処理温度の具体的な値は、特に限定されないが、接合工程(接合処理)の処理時間が後述するような範囲内の値である場合、通常、50〜200℃であるのが好ましく、60〜150℃であるのがより好ましい。このような関係を満足することにより、構成成分の劣化、変性を十分に防止しつつ、得られるトナー粒子の形状の均一性、安定性を十分に高いものとし、さらに、トナー粒子の円形度を比較的大きいものとすることができる。 Moreover, the specific value of the processing temperature in a joining process (joining process) is although it does not specifically limit, Usually, when the processing time of a joining process (joining process) is a value within the range which is mentioned later, 50-200 normally. It is preferable that it is ° C, and it is more preferable that it is 60-150 ° C. By satisfying such a relationship, the uniformity and stability of the shape of the obtained toner particles are sufficiently high while sufficiently preventing deterioration and modification of the constituent components, and further, the circularity of the toner particles is increased. It can be relatively large.
上記のような接合工程(接合処理)の処理時間は、特に限定されないが、接合工程(接合処理)の処理温度が前述したような範囲内の値である場合、0.01〜10秒であるのが好ましく、0.05〜10秒であるのがより好ましく、0.1〜5秒であるのがさらに好ましい。接合工程の処理時間がこのような範囲内の値であると、トナーの構成材料の劣化、変性等を十分に防止しつつ、トナー粒子の円形度を十分に大きいものとすることができる。 The processing time of the joining process (joining process) as described above is not particularly limited, but is 0.01 to 10 seconds when the processing temperature of the joining process (joining process) is a value within the range as described above. Is preferable, 0.05 to 10 seconds is more preferable, and 0.1 to 5 seconds is further preferable. When the processing time of the joining step is within such a range, the circularity of the toner particles can be made sufficiently large while sufficiently preventing deterioration or modification of the constituent material of the toner.
The bonding process (bonding process) may be performed by any method, and for example, heating with a heater, heating with hot air, induction heating such as high-frequency heating or microwave heating can be used. Among these, induction heating is preferable because accurate heating temperature can be easily controlled. In particular, the heating method used for the bonding treatment is preferably microwave heating, that is, the aggregate 9 is irradiated with microwaves to be heated. Thereby, since the whole aggregate 9 can be heated uniformly, the several fine particle which comprises the aggregate 9 can be joined more reliably, and the mechanical strength ( The mechanical stability) can be made particularly excellent. Further, when the
As described above, in the present invention, by using the dispersion liquid as the discharge liquid, even when the particle diameter of the toner particles to be produced is sufficiently small, the circularity is easily made sufficiently high. In addition, the particle size distribution can be sharp. As a result, the obtained toner has a uniform charge between the particles, and the toner thin layer formed on the developing roller is leveled and densified when the toner is used for printing. Become. As a result, defects such as fog are hardly generated and a sharper image can be formed. Further, since the shape and particle diameter of the toner particles are uniform, the bulk density of the whole toner (aggregate of toner particles) can be increased. As a result, it is advantageous for increasing the amount of toner filled in the cartridge of the same volume and for reducing the size of the cartridge.
The toner obtained as described above may be subjected to various processes such as aeration, classification, and external addition as necessary.
For the classification treatment, for example, a sieve, an airflow classifier or the like can be used.
Examples of the external additive used for the external addition treatment include metal oxides such as silica, aluminum oxide, titanium oxide, strontium titanate, cerium oxide, magnesium oxide, chromium oxide, titania, zinc oxide, alumina, and magnetite. Fine particles composed of inorganic materials such as nitrides such as silicon nitride, carbides such as silicon carbide, calcium sulfate, calcium carbonate, aliphatic metal salts, acrylic resins, fluororesins, polystyrene resins, polyester resins, aliphatic metal salts Fine particles composed of organic materials such as these, and fine particles composed of a composite of these.
As the external additive, the surface of the fine particles as described above is subjected to a surface treatment with HMDS, a silane coupling agent, a titanate coupling agent, a fluorine-containing silane coupling agent, silicone oil or the like. It may be used.
The toner of the present invention produced as described above has a uniform shape and a sharp particle size distribution (small width). In particular, in the present invention, toner particles having a shape close to a true sphere can be obtained.
Specifically, the toner (toner particles) preferably has an average circularity R represented by the following formula (I) of 0.95 or more, more preferably 0.96 or more, and 0.97. More preferably, it is 0.98 or more. When the average circularity R is 0.95 or more, the toner transfer efficiency is further improved.
R=L0/L1・・・(I)
R = L 0 / L 1 (I)
(Where, L 1 [μm] is the circumference of the projected image of the toner particles to be measured, and L 0 [μm] is a perfect circle having an area equal to the area of the projected image of the toner particles to be measured (completely (Represents the perimeter of a geometric circle)
The toner preferably has a standard deviation of average circularity between particles of 0.02 or less, more preferably 0.015 or less, and further preferably 0.01 or less. When the standard deviation of the average circularity between the particles is 0.02 or less, variations such as charging characteristics and fixing characteristics are particularly reduced, and the reliability of the toner as a whole is further improved.
The volume-based average particle diameter of the toner obtained as described above is preferably 2 to 20 μm, and more preferably 4 to 10 μm. When the average particle size of the toner is less than the lower limit, it becomes difficult to uniformly charge, and the adhesion force to the surface of the electrostatic latent image carrier (for example, a photoreceptor) increases. As a result, There may be an increase in the residual toner. On the other hand, when the average particle size of the toner exceeds the upper limit, the reproducibility of the contour portion of an image formed using the toner, particularly a character image or a light pattern, is deteriorated.
Further, the toner preferably has a standard deviation of the particle size between particles of 1.5 μm or less, more preferably 1.3 μm or less, and even more preferably 1.0 μm or less. When the standard deviation of the particle diameter between the particles is 1.5 μm or less, variations in charging characteristics, fixing characteristics and the like are particularly small, and the reliability of the toner as a whole is further improved.
The water content (water content) of the toner particles is not particularly limited, but is preferably 5 wt% or less, more preferably 0.01 to 4 wt%, and 0.02 to 1 wt%. Further preferred. When the water content in the toner particles is too high, there is a possibility that charging becomes unstable. If the water content in the toner particles is extremely reduced, the toner constituent materials are likely to be deteriorated or modified, and therefore it is not necessary to reduce the water content more than necessary.
As mentioned above, although this invention was demonstrated based on suitable embodiment, this invention is not limited to this.
For example, each unit constituting the toner manufacturing apparatus can be replaced with an arbitrary one that exhibits the same function, or another configuration can be added. For example, in the above-described embodiment, the configuration in which the granular dispersion liquid is discharged downward in the vertical direction has been described. However, the discharge direction of the dispersion liquid may be any direction such as vertically upward or in the horizontal direction.
Further, in the above-described embodiment, it has been described that the aggregate produced using the toner production apparatus is once collected and then the joining process is performed. For example, the dispersion medium removing process for producing the aggregate and the joining process are described. And may be performed continuously. Thereby, the productivity of toner particles (resin fine particles) can be further improved. In such a case, a part of the region where the dispersion medium removing step (dispersion medium removing process) is performed and the region where the joining step (bonding process) is performed may overlap. For example, in a part of the region where the dispersion medium removal step (dispersion medium removal process) is performed, joining of a plurality of fine particles constituting the aggregate may proceed. Further, the dispersion medium remaining in the aggregate may be removed in a part of the region where the joining step (joining process) is performed.

[2.4]定着良好域
まず、定着装置を備えたレーザープリンタ(セイコーエプソン社製、LP−3000C)を用意した。なお、この定着装置では、トナーがニップ部を通過するのに要する時間Δtを0.05秒に設定した。
次に、上記のレーザープリンタを用いて、未定着の画像サンプルを採取し、当該レーザープリンタの定着装置で、以下のような試験を実施した。なお、採取するサンプルのベタは付着量を0.40〜0.50mg/cm2に調整した。
[2.4] Good Fixing Area First, a laser printer equipped with a fixing device (manufactured by Seiko Epson Corporation, LP-3000C) was prepared. In this fixing device, the time Δt required for the toner to pass through the nip portion was set to 0.05 seconds.
Next, an unfixed image sample was collected using the above laser printer, and the following test was performed with the fixing device of the laser printer. The solid amount of the sample to be collected was adjusted to an adhesion amount of 0.40 to 0.50 mg / cm 2 .
レーザープリンタを構成する定着装置の定着ローラの表面温度を所定温度に設定した状態で、未定着のトナー像が転写された用紙(セイコーエプソン社製、上質普通紙)を、定着装置の内部に導入することにより、トナー像を用紙に定着させ、定着後におけるオフセットの発生の有無を目視で確認した。

In the state where the surface temperature of the fixing roller of the fixing device constituting the laser printer is set to a predetermined temperature, the paper on which the unfixed toner image is transferred (Seiko Epson, high-quality plain paper) is introduced into the fixing device. As a result, the toner image was fixed on the paper, and the presence or absence of offset after fixing was visually confirmed.
Similarly, the set temperature of the surface of the fixing roller is sequentially changed within a range of 100 to 250 ° C., and the presence or absence of occurrence of an offset at each temperature is confirmed. It was determined as “range” and evaluated according to the following four-stage criteria.
(Double-circle): The width | variety of a favorable fixing area is 60 degreeC or more.
◯: The width of the fixing good region is 45 ° C. or more and less than 60 ° C.
(Triangle | delta): The width | variety of a favorable fixing area is 30 degreeC or more and less than 45 degreeC.
X: The width of the good fixing region is less than 30 ° C.
[2.5] Transparency For the toners obtained in each of the above examples and comparative examples, a small amount of toner was inserted between two slide glasses, melted on a hot plate, and then cooled. After allowing the resin constituting the toner to solidify completely, the HAZE value was measured with a HAZE meter (Nippon Denshoku Industries, MODEL1001DP) to evaluate the transparency. The HAZE value is a value obtained by dividing the diffuse transmittance by the total transmittance. The better the dispersibility of each component in the toner, the smaller the value. Further, the greater the variation in the content of the colorant in the toner particles among the toner particles, the greater the HAZE value, and color unevenness tends to occur in the formed image.
These results are shown in Table 2 together with the average circularity R, circularity standard deviation, volume-based average particle diameter Dt, and particle diameter standard deviation of the toner particles.
As is apparent from Table 2, the toners of the present invention (Examples 1 to 11) all had a large degree of circularity and a small width of the particle size distribution. Moreover, the variation in shape (standard deviation of circularity) was small.
In contrast, the toner of the comparative example has a particularly small circularity, and a large number of toner particles having relatively large convex portions were observed.
The toners of the present invention (Examples 1 to 11) were all excellent in durability, transfer efficiency, charging characteristics, good fixing range, and transparency.
In contrast, the toner of the comparative example was inferior in all of durability, transfer efficiency, charging characteristics, good fixing range, and transparency as compared with the toner of the present invention.
