Abstract
Description
(a) 前記フィルムにMD方向に規則的な間隔でタブを形成する工程であって、前記タブは、前記フィルムに付いている前記タブの反対側の端部に自由な側部により結合された自由な端部を有し、MD方向の少なくとも一つの引裂き線の軸がタブの両端部を通過するように前記フィルム上に配置されている工程、
(b) 前記フィルムウェブを切断して前記ウェブのTDを通る軸に実質的に沿って切断することによりシートを形成する工程であって、前記軸はその両端の間でタブを横切り、前記軸に沿ってタブが実質的に切断されておらず、タブはシートの前縁から突出している工程、
(c) 工程(b)から形成されたシートを物品の回りに巻いてシートの切断側部が重なり合った管を形成する工程であって、タブの自由端は前記管の外側の重複部の上にあり、シートの切断側部は少なくとも、外側表面上のフィルムのタブが下にあるフィルムと重なり合う程度まで重なり、それに続く領域が密封領域として定められる工程、
(d) 密封手段により前記重複領域内でフィルムを一緒に密封する工程であって、その手段が、
(i) 重複部内の引裂き線領域の外側の重複領域内で一層強く密封し、このとき、引裂き線領域は、重複領域の切断縁(TD方向)及びフィルムシートの非切断側に平行な(MD方向の)一対の軸によって定められ、各々の軸は前記タブの側部の最も広い点を夫々通過しており、前記タブの自由端は密封されていないか、又はフィルムに弱くしか密封されていない工程、及び、
(e) 前記管の両端を前記物品の回りで包み、前記端部を密封して物品の回りに密封された包装体を形成する工程であって、前記包装体が、前記自由タブ端部を引張って引裂き線に沿って引裂きを開始することにより容易に開くことができる工程、
を含む、上記方法が提供される。

換言すれば密封領域(530)は、ノッチ領域(528)と、間隔領域(537)とを一緒にした領域である。

BOPPフィルムの製造
ポリプロピレン(本明細書ではPPとしても言及する)単独重合体の芯層と、前記芯層の両側の中密度ポリエチレン層とを同時に押出すことにより、3層重合体チューブを形成した。そのチューブを冷却し、次いで再加熱した後、吹き込みを行い、18.7μm厚の芯層と、夫々0.3μm厚の二つの外側層とを有する3層二軸配向ポリプロピレン(本明細書ではBOPPとしても言及する)フィルムを形成した。フィルム自身は19.3μmの厚さを持っていた。例えば、下に記載するように、この慣用的BOPPフィルムに引裂きを起こし易い線を形成するのに任意の適当な方法を用いることができる。フィルムの外側層はどちらの表面でも慣用的温度で熱密封することができるので、このBOPPフィルムは両面(即ち、AとB)を熱封着することができる。包装体の最終用途及び包装される内容物である物品の性質により(例えば、酸素又は湿分に対する障壁性を増大するため)、フィルムが依然としてA・B熱密封性である限り、フィルムは慣用的障壁被覆を提供することができる。しかし、本発明の方法を例示するためだけに用いられるこのフィルムについては、そのような被覆は不必要である。適切な比較を提供するため、全体を通して同じフィルムを用いた。
同様な包装体を、熱密封用棒を用いて例1に記載したようにして作ることができる。このとき、絶縁体(203)は加熱用表面(201)の全幅(短軸)を横切って挿入されている(即ち、薄い熱密封帯は埋め込まれていない−図2参照)。棒を重複領域に適用する時、絶縁体(203)は引裂き線領域(531)の全体と位置合わせされて保持され、従って、その引裂き領域は弱くしか密封されず、そのため包装体にフィルムの2倍の厚さが存在する重複領域(521)を通って、引裂き帯(511)に沿って容易に引裂きを伝播させることができる。
例1に記載したように包装体を作ることができる。この場合、絶縁体のない慣用的非中空金属棒ヒーター(図示しない)を用いて、重複領域(521)の全ての領域を均一な密封強度まで熱密封した。
例1に記載したように包装体を作ることができる。この場合、用いたヒーターは、慣用的非中空金属棒ヒーター(図3に示してある)であり、間隙(303)が、引裂き線領域(531)に対応するように加熱表面(301)中に機械加工されており、従って、包装体のこの領域は加熱されず、全く密封されない。
包装体の密封完全性を、AR−Jay密封完全性試験装置により測定することができ、この場合、包装体を低い圧力で装置の表面に保持し、次に装置に接する包装体の側面に穴を開け、その穴を通って空気を送る。包装体の内部へ送られた空気は、密封部の回りの漏洩により包装体から流れ出る空気を補充する。これにより、装置から供給された空気の定常状態圧力は、包装体の密封完全性に比例する。密封完全性が高い包装体ほど、それらの内容物に対する一層よい保護(例えば、酸素又は湿分からの保護)を一層長い間提供することは明らかである。

Claims (23)
- MD方向に少なくとも一つの引裂き線を有する包装用フィルムのウェブを用いる物品を包装するための方法であって、
(a) 前記フィルムにMD方向に規則的な間隔でタブを形成する工程であって、前記タブは、前記フィルムに付いている端部に自由な側部により結合された自由な端部を有し、MD方向の少なくとも一つの引裂き線の軸がタブの両端部を通過するように前記フィルム上に配置されている工程、
(b) 前記フィルムウェブを切断して前記ウェブのTDを通る軸に実質的に沿って切断することによりシートを形成する工程であって、前記軸はその両端の間でタブを横切り、前記軸に沿ってタブが実質的に切断されておらず、タブはシートの前縁から突出している工程、
(c) 工程(b)から形成されたシートを物品の回りに巻いてシートの切断側部が重なり合った管を形成する工程であって、タブの自由端は前記管の外側の重複部の上にあり、シートの切断側部は、間隔領域が完全に前記重複領域内に存在する程度まで重複し、前記間隔領域は、フィルムの側部と、夫々、重複部の下にあるシートの縁及び前記タブの付着端部を通る、管に平行な軸である、第一の一対の軸(TD方向)とによって定められる工程、
(d) 密封手段により前記重複領域内でフィルムを一緒に密封する工程であって、その手段が、
(i) 前記間隔領域を定める前記第一の対に直角な第二の対の軸(MD方向)と重複領域の縁によって定められたタブ領域の外側を実質的に完全に密封し、前記第二対は、タブの夫々の自由な側部に対し夫々最も広い点を通過しており、
(ii) 実質的に間隔領域内だけでタブ領域内部を密封し、そのため、タブの自由端部は実質的にフィルムに密封されないままになっている工程、及び、
(e) 前記管の両端を前記物品の回りで包み、前記端部を密封して物品の回りに密封された包装体を形成する工程であって、前記包装体が、前記自由タブ端部を引張って引裂き線に沿って引裂きを開始することにより容易に開くことができる工程、
を含む、上記方法。 - 工程(a)で、接触手段(例えば、タブナイフ)又は非接触手段(例えば、レーザー)によりフィルムに切込を入れることによりタブを形成する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 工程(b)で、フィルムウェブを切断してシートを形成し、一つのシートの前縁に部分的に突出したタブと後続のシートの後縁に対応するノッチとを形成する、請求項1〜2のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 工程(c)で、シートを物品の回りに包み、管を形成し、このとき、ノッチの先端及びタブの付着端部を夫々通る、重複部に沿った、管の軸に平行な第一の一対の軸(TD方向)及びフィルムの側部により間隔領域が定められている、請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 工程(d)で、重複領域のフィルムが一緒に熱密封される、請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- フィルムに対して加熱部材を押し付けることにより熱密封がなされ、前記部材が、タブ領域の外側及び間隔領域の内部の重複領域に亙り実質的に完全にフィルムを密封するよう形づくられており、タブ領域内部だけは自由になっている、請求項5に記載の方法。
- フィルムの引裂き線が、引裂きテープ、フィルムへの切込及び/又は部分的切込線、及び/又は前記線内のフィルム材料の異なった及び/又は破壊された配向により形成した弱い線を含む、請求項1〜6のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 引裂き線内の材料が、フィルムの残りの部分の材料に対する実質的に異なった配向を有する、請求項1〜7のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 引裂き線に沿ったフィルムが、フィルムの残りの部分と実質的に同じゲージを有する、請求項1〜8のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- フィルムが、重合体材料を含む、請求項1〜9のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- フィルムが熱可塑性重合体を含む、請求項10に記載の方法。
- フィルムがポリオレフィン及び/又はポリエステルを含む、請求項11に記載の方法。
- フィルムがポリプロピレンを含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
- フィルムが、少なくとも一つの方向に実質的に配向されている、請求項1〜13のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- フィルムが、実質的に互いに直角な方向に二軸配向されている、請求項1〜14のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 請求項1〜15のいずれか1項に記載の方法により得られ及び/又は得ることができる包装体。
- 引裂き線(単数又は複数)に沿って引裂きを開始する場合には、実質的に引裂き線(単数又は複数)に沿って指の圧力により開けることができる、請求項16に記載の包装体。
- フィルムが物品の回りに密封されており、シールを剥ぐことにより引裂きが行われる、請求項16又は17に記載の包装体。
- フィルムが物品の回りに熱密封されている、請求項16〜18のいずれか1項に記載の包装体。
- 印刷により、包装体を開けるためにフィルムの引裂きを開始する位置が示されている、請求項16〜19のいずれか1項に記載の包装体。
- タバコ商品、食品、記録媒体から選択される物品の入った、請求項16〜20のいずれか1項に記載の包装体。
- 物品が、シガレット・カートン、ビデオテープ、コンパクトディスク、菓子物品、又は焼いた食品を含む、請求項21に記載の包装体。
- 本発明の態様を記載する図面を参照して本明細書に記載したのと実質的に同じ方法及び/又は包装体。
