Abstract
【解決手段】本発明によると、偏光光が入射される下板の偏光軸とラビング軸とが第1所定角度を有するように配列する。偏光光が液晶を通じて出る上板の偏光軸とラビング軸とが第2所定角度を有するように配列する。

Description
従来のUltra−FFS(出願人が開発した技術名称)では図1に示すように、第1のITO電極102と重なる第2のITO電極104の形状を櫛型に製作し、液晶を0度にて配向させることにより、電界によって液晶の上側と下側とで互いに逆方向になるように液晶が捩じれる。それにより、液晶の誘電率異方性により青みがかった、または、黄味を帯びる色彩が変化することを補償する。
このような動作原理により長時間印加された電界により劣化された液晶−配向膜、電極間絶縁膜、液晶内不純物等の因子により低階調状態で画品に品質に残像またはムラ等の問題が生じる。
現在生産している対称のセルと異なる液晶の動作を考えて、ラビング軸と偏光軸とを非対称に位置させることにより、ラビング線ムラを改善し、低階調で視認性が長く残った残像を改善し、暗状態のラビング部の光漏洩改善による対比率を向上させ、高品位ブラック及びホワイト等の医療用モニタとTV等に適用することができる高画質の低階調映像を提供し、偏光子取付け工程から生じる光軸誤マッチングの工程マージン向上等の効果が得られる。
図3は、本発明の実施の形態に係るFFS液晶表示装置を示す平面図である。図4は、図3に示すFFS液晶表示装置の偏光軸を示す図面である。図5は、本発明の実施の形態に係る暗状態において下板液晶配列形状を示す図面である。
偏光光が入射される下板の偏光軸とラビング軸とをα°の角度(第1所定角度)を有するように配列し、前記偏光光が液晶を通過して出る上板の偏光軸とラビング軸とはβ°の角度(第2所定角度)を有するように配列し、前記下板の偏光軸と前記上板の偏光軸とが成す角δが90°±|α−β|となるように、フリンジフィールド駆動モード液晶表示装置における偏光軸及びラビング軸を非対称に配列する。即ち、偏光光が入射される下板の偏光軸とラビング軸とがα°だけ、また、偏光光が液晶を通じて出る上板の偏光軸とラビング軸とはβ°だけ捩じれてラビングラインの上部から生じる液晶のバラツキを偏光軸を非対称に置きながら、ラビングムラの視認性を減らすことができる。前記α°及びβ°は90°より小さいことが望ましい。

Claims (3)
- 偏光光が入射される下板の偏光軸とラビング軸とが第1所定角度を有するように配列する段階と、
前記偏光光が液晶を通過して出てくる上板の偏光軸とラビング軸とが第2所定角度を有するように配列する段階とを有することを特徴とするフリンジフィールド駆動モード液晶表示装置における偏光軸及びラビング軸を配列する方法。 - 前記第1所定角度及び前記第2所定角度は、90°より小さい角度であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のフリンジフィールド駆動モード液晶表示装置における偏光軸及びラビング軸を配列する方法。
- 前記下板の偏光軸と前記上板の偏光軸とが成す角度が、下記の数式1に示すようになるように、前記偏光軸とラビング軸とを互いに非対称に配列することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のフリンジフィールド駆動モード液晶表示装置における偏光軸及びラビング軸を配列する方法。
