Abstract
Description
以下、同様とする)等のLGA(Land Grid Array)構造を持つ光変調素子と該光変調素子を駆動制御するための回路基板(以下、PCB(Printed Circuit Board)という)を備えた光変調ユニットに関する。 The present invention relates to a light modulation element having an LGA (Land Grid Array) structure such as DMD (registered trademark), and a circuit board for driving and controlling the light modulation element (hereinafter referred to as a PCB (Printed Circuit)). Board)).
Conventionally, several methods are known for fixing an optical modulation element having an LGA structure and a PCB while being electrically connected. For example, a technique (BGA (Ball Grid Array)) is known in which a ball-shaped solder is disposed between the two and the solder is fixed by heating the solder.
However, when the light modulation element and the PCB are fixed by the BGA, problems such as the possibility that the light modulation element may be heated when the solder is heated and the time and effort required to replace the element are pointed out as problems. .
On the other hand, in recent years, a light modulation element is used by using a connector (hereinafter referred to as a C contact connector for convenience) in which a metal plate having a C-type spring structure (hereinafter simply referred to as a C-type spring) is embedded in a plastic plate-like body. A method of electrically connecting the PCB and the PCB has been proposed. The proposal is exemplified in
The C contact connector described in
Further, a light modulation element such as DMD generates a considerably high heat when driven. For this reason, it is necessary to release the heat generated to ensure stable driving of the element and the entire unit to the outside of the unit. The heat dissipation (cooling) structure in the light modulation unit is disclosed in
In
In view of the above circumstances, the present invention provides a light modulation device capable of reliably connecting a light modulation element having an LGA structure and a PCB and effectively releasing heat generated from the light modulation element to the outside. It is another object of the present invention to provide a light modulation unit that can be manufactured by simplifying the labor for adjusting the positions of the light modulation element and the PCB.
In order to solve the above problems, an optical modulation unit according to
According to the light modulation unit of the first aspect, the light modulation element and the circuit board can be reliably electrically connected by the elastic conductive member. At the same time, heat generated from the light modulation element can be effectively transmitted to the heat radiating means by the elastic heat conducting member. The interval defining means also functions as a means for defining the degree of contraction of the conductive member disposed between the light modulation element and the circuit board.
In the light modulation unit configured as described above, in order to ensure the electrical connection and the heat dissipation effect, and to realize further miniaturization and thickness reduction, the distance D1 defined by the distance defining means, the thickness D2 of the conductive member, the heat conduction The thickness D4 of the member and the thickness D5 of the circuit board are as follows:
D1 <D2 <D1 + D5 <D4 <D2 + D5
It is desirable to configure so as to satisfy (claim 2). In addition, by setting D4 larger than D1 + D5, the
In the above light modulation unit, each element is fixed between the heat radiation means and the socket in order to further ensure the electrical connection between the light modulation element and the circuit board and to obtain more effective heat radiation performance. Thus, the conductive member and the heat conductive member may be set to a thickness such that the ratio of the compressibility of the conductive member to the heat conductive member is 1: 2.
Each of the openings is preferably provided at a substantially central portion of the conductive member and the circuit board. By providing an opening at such a position, the light modulation element, the conductive member, and the circuit board can be easily positioned with reference to the opening. Specifically, if each member is positioned so that the heat radiation portion of the light modulation element can be seen from the opening of the conductive member and the circuit board, the pair of lands can be automatically connected via the conductive member. Placed in.
Furthermore, the heat conducting member preferably has a cross-sectional shape in a plane parallel to the surface of the circuit board substantially the same as the opening. According to such a configuration, the positioning can be automatically performed by bringing the heat conducting member into contact with the heat radiating portion of the light modulation element through each opening. In addition, as a heat conductive member, it is desirable to use the metal plate which stuck the heat conductive sheet which has elasticity on both surfaces, for example, an aluminum plate (Claim 6).
According to the seventh aspect of the present invention, the conductive member has an insulating elastic substrate on which a plurality of linear elastic and conductive linear members with both ends protruding by a predetermined amount are disposed. I have to. The linear members are arranged along the thickness direction at a predetermined density such that a plurality of linear members are used for electrical connection between a pair of lands on the light modulation element and the circuit board.
According to the seventh aspect of the present invention, the light modulation element and the circuit board can be electrically connected by bringing both ends of the plurality of linear members into contact with the paired lands. That is, since connection by soldering is not performed, unlike the BGA, there is no possibility that the light modulation element and the substrate are adversely affected by heating. Moreover, this invention uses the linear strip member as a member which implement | achieves an electrical connection as mentioned above. Therefore, the connector according to the present invention has a very simple configuration, unlike the conventional proposal exemplified in
According to the light modulation unit of the eighth aspect, it is desirable that the linear member is disposed over the entire predetermined region including at least all the lands of the light modulation element in the elastic substrate. As a result, during the connection work, the light modulation element and the circuit board are electrically connected only by arranging the connector so that all the lands on the light modulation element and the circuit board are placed. That is, it is not necessary to adjust the relative position between the C-type connector and each land with high accuracy as in
For example, the predetermined density is desirably such that the light modulation element and the pair of lands on the circuit board are connected by at least three linear members. In this way, if the electrical connection between a pair of lands is performed by a plurality of wires, more specifically, at least three wires, even if some of the wire members are disconnected or poorly connected. Even so, the electrical connection is guaranteed by another wire.
Examples of the space defining means include a boss (claim 9), a spacer, and the like disposed on either the socket or the circuit board. A wire is suitable as the linear elastic linear member.
Note that DMD is suitable as the light modulation element having the LGA structure (claim 10), but LCOS or the like can also be used.
As described above, according to the present invention, the light modulation element and the circuit board are reliably electrically connected by using the elastic conductive member whose thickness is set to have a predetermined compressibility and the heat conductive member. At the same time, the heat generated from the light modulation element can be effectively transmitted to the heat radiating means. In addition, since the heat conducting member is brought into contact with the heat radiating portion of the light modulation element, the relative positioning between the members is automatically performed, so that labor during manufacturing can be reduced.
Hereinafter, an optical modulation unit according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a side view of the
As shown in FIG. 2, the
FIG. 3 is an enlarged front view showing the
FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along line AA of
In addition, the board |
The
Further, an opening (second opening) AP2 is provided in the approximate center of the arrangement area of the reflective display device 20 (and the connector 10) in the
As shown in FIG. 2, the
The
The
At this time, the relative positioning of the
FIG. 5 is an exploded side view showing the vicinity of the
When the fixing with the screw S is performed, the
FIG. 7 is a side view showing the
Specifically, since the
Table 1 shows whether electrical connection between the
In the section of electrical connection in Table 1, ○ indicates a state where electrical connection is made, and x indicates a state where electrical connection is not established. Moreover, in the item of the heat dissipation effect of the same table | surface, (double-circle) shows that sufficient heat dissipation effect is acquired, and shows that an effect reduces in order of (circle) and x below. As shown in Table 1, when the thicknesses of the
From the above, the thickness of each member constituting the
D1 <D2 <D1 + D5 <D4 <D2 + D5
Here, D4 larger than D1 + D5 means that the
In addition, the structure which ensures the contact with the heat
The arrangement density of the
As described above, in the
The above is the embodiment of the present invention. The above embodiment is merely an example of a connector according to the present invention and a light modulation unit using the connector. That is, the connector and the light modulation unit according to the present invention are not limited to the configuration of the above embodiment.
For example, in the
In the
