Abstract
【解決手段】排気浄化装置は、第2触媒コンバータ(排気浄化触媒)の触媒温度についての条件、及び同コンバータを通過する空気による熱持去り量についての条件を少なくとも含む再生条件が全て満たされると、排気燃料添加弁から燃料を添加させ、その添加燃料の燃焼により、第2触媒コンバータに堆積した微粒子物質を燃焼除去させる(ステップ130〜160)。熱持去り量についての条件は、「空気による熱持去り量相当値(エンジンの始動後の総吸入空気量)が所定値Aよりも多いこと」である(ステップ130)。所定値Aは、排気燃料添加弁による燃料添加が行われても、触媒温度を第2触媒コンバータが排気浄化機能を発揮する温度領域の上限値を越えない温度まで下げ得る値である。

Description
請求項1に記載の発明では、エンジンから排出された排気を排気浄化触媒により浄化する排気浄化装置において、前記排気浄化触媒の触媒温度についての条件、及び同排気浄化触媒を通過する空気による熱持去り量についての条件を少なくとも含む再生条件が全て満たされると、前記排気浄化触媒に堆積した微粒子物質を燃焼除去することにより同排気浄化触媒を再生させるための再生制御を行う触媒再生制御手段を備えている。
ここで、排気浄化触媒を通過する排気中の空気の総量と、空気による熱持去り量との間には密接な関係が見られる。排気浄化触媒を通過する排気中の空気の総量は、エンジンに吸入される空気の総量(総吸入空気量)と対応している。そして、空気が排気浄化触媒から持去る熱量は総吸入空気量が少ない場合に少なく、総吸入空気量の増加に伴い多くなる。
図1は、本実施形態が適用されるディーゼルエンジン(以下、単にエンジンという)10及びその排気浄化装置11の構成を示している。エンジン10は、大きくは吸気通路12、燃焼室13、及び排気通路14を備えて構成されている。吸気通路12の最上流部には、同吸気通路12に吸入された空気を浄化するエアクリーナ15が設けられている。エンジン10においては、エアクリーナ15から吸気下流側に向けて順に、吸気通路12内の空気の流量を検出するエアフロメータ16、ターボチャージャ17のコンプレッサ17A、インタークーラ18、及び吸気絞り弁19が配設されている。そして、吸気通路12は、吸気絞り弁19の吸気下流側に設けられた吸気マニホールド20において分岐されており、この分岐部分を通じて、エンジン10の各気筒の燃焼室13に接続されている。
さらに、エンジン10には、排気の一部を吸気中に再循環させる排気再循環(以下、「EGR」という)装置が採用されている。EGR装置は、吸気通路12と排気通路14とを連通させるEGR通路27を備えて構成されている。EGR通路27の上流側は、排気通路14の排気マニホールド26とタービン17Bとの間に接続されている。EGR通路27の途中には、その上流側から順に、再循環される排気を浄化するEGRクーラ触媒28、再循環される排気を冷却するEGRクーラ29、再循環される排気の流量を調整するEGR弁30が配設されている。そしてEGR通路27の下流側は、吸気通路12の吸気絞り弁19と吸気マニホールド20との間に接続されている。
ここで、第2触媒コンバータ33を通過する排気中の空気の総量と、空気による熱持去り量との間には密接な関係が見られる。第2触媒コンバータ33を通過する排気中の空気の総量は、エンジン10に吸入される空気の総量、すなわち吸気通路12内を通過する空気の総量(総吸入空気量)と対応している。そして、空気によって第2触媒コンバータ33から持去られる熱量は総吸入空気量が少ない場合には少なく、総吸入空気量の増加に伴い多くなる。このことから、エンジン10の始動後の総吸入空気量が空気による熱持去り量の相当値として用いられている。また、上記条件(iii )中の所定値Aとしては、第2触媒コンバータ33の触媒温度を、排気燃料添加弁31による燃料添加が行われても高温限界温度を越えない温度まで下げ得る値が用いられる。
らの触媒再生制御モード、S被毒回復制御モード及びNOx還元制御モード以外のモードが通常制御モードとなり、この通常制御モードでは排気燃料添加弁31からの還元剤添加はなされない。
以上詳述した本実施形態によれば、以下の効果が得られる。
このため、総吸入空気量が所定値A以下のときには触媒再生制御を禁止して排気燃料添加弁31からの燃料添加を停止することで、空気の熱持去りにより、触媒温度を触媒再生制御が行われても高温限界温度を越えない温度まで低下させることができる。従って、総吸入空気量が所定値Aよりも多くなると触媒再生制御により排気燃料添加弁31から燃料が添加されて第2触媒コンバータ33の触媒温度が上昇するが、その触媒温度が高温限界温度よりも高くなるのを抑制することができる。
・触媒再生制御が行われることで触媒温度が高温限界温度よりも高くなるのは、触媒温度が高く、かつ第2触媒コンバータ33を通過する空気の量が少なく熱持去り量が少ないときである。こうした状況は主としてエンジン10の再始動時に起こり得る。そこで、触媒再生制御をエンジン10の再始動時において再生条件が全て満たされた場合に限って行うようにしてもよい。
・判定用所定値Aをマップに代えて、所定の演算式に基づいて算出するようにしてもよい。
Claims (6)
- エンジンから排出された排気を排気浄化触媒により浄化する排気浄化装置において、
前記排気浄化触媒の触媒温度についての条件、及び同排気浄化触媒を通過する空気による熱持去り量についての条件を少なくとも含む再生条件が全て満たされると、前記排気浄化触媒に堆積した微粒子物質を燃焼除去することにより同排気浄化触媒を再生させるための再生制御を行う触媒再生制御手段を備えることを特徴とする排気浄化装置。 - 前記触媒再生制御手段は前記エンジンの再始動時に前記再生条件が全て満たされると前記再生制御を行うものである請求項1に記載の排気浄化装置。
- 前記再生条件は、前記空気による熱持去り量又はその相当値が所定値よりも多いことを、前記熱持去り量についての条件とするものである請求項1又は2に記載の排気浄化装置。
- 前記熱持去り量の相当値は前記エンジンが始動された後に吸入された空気の総量である請求項3に記載の排気浄化装置。
- 前記排気浄化触媒は所定の温度領域で排気浄化機能を発揮するものであり、
前記所定値は、前記触媒再生制御手段による前記再生制御が行われても、触媒温度を前記温度領域の上限値を越えない温度まで下げ得る値に設定されている請求項3又は4に記載の排気浄化装置。 - 前記触媒再生制御手段は、前記再生条件が全て満たされると、前記エンジンの排気通路に設けた排気燃料添加弁から前記排気浄化触媒の上流に燃料を添加するものである請求項1〜5のいずれか1つに記載の排気浄化装置。
