TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a control apparatus for a spark ignition engine, and more particularly, to a control apparatus for controlling the combustion state of each cylinder in a multi-cylinder engine in order to improve fuel efficiency and emission.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, in a spark ignition type engine, a technology for improving fuel efficiency by performing combustion in a state where the air-fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture in each cylinder is set to a lean air-fuel ratio larger than the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio has been known. A fuel injection valve that injects fuel directly into the room is provided. In low-speed, low-load regions, etc., stratified combustion is performed by injecting fuel in the compression stroke from the fuel injection valve, thereby realizing super-lean combustion. The following is known (for example, refer to Patent Document 1).
[0003]
In such an engine, an ordinary three-way catalyst (a catalyst having a high purification performance near the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio with respect to HC, CO and NOx) alone as an exhaust gas purification catalyst is sufficient for NOx during lean operation. Since purification performance cannot be obtained, a lean NOx catalyst for adsorbing NOx in an oxygen-excess atmosphere and desorbing and reducing NOx in an oxygen-low concentration atmosphere is provided as shown in Patent Document 1. When such a lean NOx catalyst is used, if the amount of NOx adsorbed by the lean NOx catalyst increases during the lean operation, additional fuel is injected during the expansion stroke other than the main combustion, for example, as described in the above publication. As a result, the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas is enriched and CO is generated, thereby promoting the separation and reduction of NOx.
[0004]
[Patent Document 1]
JP-A-10-274085
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the engine performing the conventional lean operation as described above, the lean NOx catalyst is required to secure NOx purification performance during the lean operation, which is disadvantageous in cost. Further, in order to maintain the purification performance of the lean NOx catalyst, it is necessary to temporarily enrich the air-fuel ratio by supplying additional fuel for releasing and reducing NOx when the NOx adsorption amount increases as described above. In addition, when the fuel used contains a large amount of sulfur, it is necessary to regenerate the lean NOx catalyst by heating the catalyst and supplying a reducing material in order to eliminate the sulfur poisoning of the lean NOx catalyst. I do.
[0006]
In addition, when the air-fuel ratio becomes lean to a certain degree or more, the combustion speed becomes too slow and the combustion near the end of the combustion does not contribute to the work, so that there is a limit to the improvement in fuel efficiency by leaning in stratified combustion.
[0007]
In addition, compression self-ignition has been studied as another method for improving fuel efficiency. This compression self-ignition is performed at high pressure and high pressure in the combustion chamber at the top dead center of the compression stroke, similar to a diesel engine. Even if the air-fuel ratio is super lean or a large amount of EGR is introduced, if such compression self-ignition is performed, the entire combustion chamber burns at once, and does not contribute to work. Combustion is avoided, which is advantageous for improving fuel efficiency. However, in a normal spark ignition type engine (gasoline engine), forced ignition is required for combustion, and a special device for greatly increasing the temperature or pressure in the combustion chamber to perform compression self-ignition is required. Therefore, it has been difficult to increase the temperature or pressure in the combustion chamber to such an extent that compression self-ignition occurs in a partial load region where improvement in fuel consumption is required while avoiding knocking in a high load region.
[0008]
Therefore, the present applicant is in the exhaust stroke between a pair of cylinders where the exhaust stroke and the intake stroke overlap in the partial load region of the engine in order to achieve a significant fuel efficiency improvement by using the lean combustion and the compression self-ignition together. The burned gas discharged from the preceding cylinder is directly connected to the succeeding cylinder in the intake stroke via the inter-cylinder gas passage in a two-cylinder connection state, and the leading cylinder has an air-fuel ratio of lean air larger than the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. A fuel-ignition-type engine, in which combustion is performed by forced ignition and fuel is supplied to burned gas having a lean air-fuel ratio introduced from a preceding cylinder in a succeeding cylinder and combustion is performed by compression self-ignition. We have applied for a technology relating to a control device (Japanese Patent Application No. 2002-29836).
[0009]
The present invention is based on such a technology, and enables a combustion by compression self-ignition in a succeeding cylinder to be effectively performed in a wider area, thereby improving a fuel efficiency and an emission improving effect. An engine control device is provided.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The invention according to claim 1 is a multi-cylinder spark ignition type four-stroke engine in which the combustion cycle of each cylinder is performed with a predetermined phase difference, and the intake, exhaust and combustion of the engine in a partial load region of the engine. The control mode for the state is a special operation mode. In this special operation mode, the burned gas discharged from the preceding cylinder in the exhaust stroke between the pair of cylinders in which the exhaust stroke and the intake stroke overlap is the subsequent cylinder in the intake stroke as it is. In a two-cylinder connection state in which the gas discharged from the following cylinder is introduced into the exhaust passage through the inter-cylinder gas passage, the leading cylinder has a lean air-fuel ratio in which the air-fuel ratio is larger than the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. The combustion is performed, and in the succeeding cylinder, fuel is supplied to burned gas having a lean air-fuel ratio introduced from the preceding cylinder to perform combustion, thereby causing combustion. A gin control device, wherein in at least a part of the operation region of the operation region set to the special operation mode, the preceding cylinder closes the exhaust valve by a predetermined period before the exhaust stroke top dead center. In addition to controlling the burned gas to partially remain in the cylinder and overlapping the opening period of the intake valve with the opening period of the exhaust valve, the subsequent cylinder is caused to perform combustion by compression self-ignition. In addition, a supercharger for assisting the intake in the preceding cylinder is provided.
[0011]
According to the present invention, when combustion is performed by compression self-ignition in the succeeding cylinder in the special operation mode, the preceding cylinder can achieve a thermal efficiency improvement by lean combustion and a fuel efficiency improvement effect by reducing pumping loss. An improvement in fuel efficiency can be obtained by improving combustion efficiency by ignition and reducing pumping loss. Further, in the preceding cylinder, the combustion is performed at a lean air-fuel ratio, so that the amount of NOx generated is suppressed to a relatively low level. Since the state is the same as that performed, the generation of NOx is sufficiently suppressed, which contributes to the purification of exhaust gas. Further, since the gas discharged from the subsequent cylinder to the exhaust passage can have the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, it is possible to sufficiently purify the exhaust gas only with the three-way catalyst, and it is necessary to use a relatively expensive lean NOx catalyst. No, it leads to cost reduction.
[0012]
Further, since fresh air is taken in and burned in a state where the burned gas remains in the preceding cylinder, the effect of suppressing knocking in the preceding cylinder is enhanced by an increase in the burned gas component and the like. Further, in the preceding cylinder, fresh air is taken into the relatively high-temperature remaining burned gas and burned, so that the burned gas becomes even hotter. Since this high-temperature burned gas is introduced into the succeeding cylinder, While compression self-ignition in the cylinder is performed reliably and smoothly, the effect of suppressing knocking of the subsequent cylinder is enhanced by an increase in the burned gas component corresponding to EGR in this gas. Furthermore, there is a concern that the pumping loss may increase due to the early closing of the exhaust valve of the preceding cylinder. However, since the exhaust valve overlaps the intake valve, it is possible to avoid an increase in the pumping loss. it can.
[0013]
Here, in the preceding cylinder, part of the burned gas remains, and the intake valve is opened in the exhaust stroke so as to overlap the exhaust valve. However, according to the present invention, since a supercharger is provided to assist the intake of the preceding cylinder, fresh air can be forcibly sent to the preceding cylinder by this supercharger. Thus, it is possible to prevent the output from decreasing due to the decrease in the intake air amount.
[0014]
In the present invention, it is preferable that the closing timing of the intake valve in the preceding cylinder is set so as to substantially coincide with the bottom dead center of the intake stroke (claim 2). By doing so, the effective compression ratio of the engine is improved, and the in-cylinder temperature can be maintained at a higher temperature, so that even higher temperature of the burned gas can be introduced into the subsequent cylinder. Therefore, for example, even in a low-load region where the in-cylinder temperature is unlikely to rise, the self-ignitability in the subsequent cylinder can be more reliably ensured, and the combustion can be performed by the compression self-ignition in the subsequent cylinder. The area can be expanded, and further improvement in fuel efficiency and purification of exhaust gas can be promoted.
[0015]
Further, in the present invention, a variable valve timing mechanism for changing the valve timing of the intake and exhaust valves in the preceding cylinder is provided, and in a higher load region than the partial operation region in the operation region set as the special operation mode, The valve timing variable mechanism is set so that the exhaust valve of the preceding cylinder is closed after a predetermined period of exhaust stroke top dead center has passed, and the intake valve of the preceding cylinder has passed the intake stroke for a predetermined period of time. Preferably, the valve is set to be closed (claim 3). With this configuration, the optimal valve timing according to the operating state of the engine can be set by the variable valve timing mechanism, and the output performance according to the operating state of the engine can be ensured. Further, it is possible to effectively prevent knocking in the subsequent cylinder, which may occur when the burned gas introduced into the subsequent cylinder becomes excessively hot, for example. In other words, in the high load region, both the leading and succeeding cylinders have a high in-cylinder temperature. In such a state, the leading cylinder takes in fresh air into the burned gas and burns it. If the burned gas is introduced into the subsequent cylinder, the in-cylinder temperatures of the preceding and succeeding cylinders become excessively high, and consequently abnormal combustion such as knocking may occur. Therefore, with the above configuration, the temperature rise due to the remaining burned gas in the preceding cylinder is suppressed, and the temperature of the burned gas in the preceding cylinder introduced into the succeeding cylinder is reduced, so that knocking in the leading / following cylinder is effectively performed. Since the burned gas does not remain in the preceding cylinder, fresh air can be sufficiently taken in, and the output performance of the engine can be sufficiently exhibited.

Further, in the control device provided with the variable valve timing mechanism, in a load region even higher than the operation region in which the special operation mode is set, the intake / exhaust valves in the preceding cylinder correspond to their intake / exhaust strokes, respectively. It is set to switch to a normal operation mode in which each cylinder is independently opened and burned by forced ignition, and in this normal operation mode, a part of the exhaust gas in each cylinder is externally provided with an EGR cooler. It is preferable to introduce the fuel into the intake passage via the EGR passage (claim 4). With this configuration, the output performance of the engine corresponding to the load can be ensured, and a part of the exhaust gas cooled by the EGR cooler is introduced into the intake passage via the external EGR, thereby increasing the temperature in the cylinder. Knocking can be effectively prevented.
[0017]
The supercharger is not particularly limited, but it is preferable to use a turbocharger as the supercharger. As described above, when the turbocharger is a turbocharger, the exhaust pressure is increased, so that the burned gas is easily left in the preceding cylinder, and the burned gas introduced into the succeeding cylinder is heated to a higher temperature. And the self-ignition property of the subsequent cylinder can be enhanced.
[0018]
On the other hand, the invention according to claim 6 is a control device for a spark ignition type engine in which a cylinder performs a combustion cycle including intake, compression, expansion, and exhaust strokes. A variable valve timing mechanism to be changed, and a supercharger, and in at least a part of the operating region, the valve timing of the intake / exhaust valve is changed by the variable valve timing mechanism so that the exhaust valve is moved from the upper dead center of the exhaust stroke. By closing the valve before a predetermined period, the burned gas partially remains in the cylinder, and the opening period of the intake valve overlaps with the opening period of the exhaust valve, and the burned gas is added to the remaining burned gas. While taking in air and closing the intake valve so as to substantially coincide with the bottom dead center of the intake stroke, control is performed so that combustion is performed by compression self-ignition, while the supercharger supplements intake air to each cylinder. It is characterized in that.
[0019]
According to the present invention, since the entire combustion chamber is burned at once by compression self-ignition, slow combustion that does not contribute to work is avoided, and a high fuel efficiency is obtained by improving thermal efficiency. Further, since the remaining burned gas is in a state equivalent to that in which EGR is performed, the amount of generated NOx is sufficiently suppressed, thereby contributing to purification of exhaust gas. Furthermore, since fresh air is taken into the relatively high-temperature burned gas remaining in the cylinder and burned, the temperature in the cylinder can be increased, whereby compression self-ignition in the cylinder is performed reliably and smoothly. The knocking suppression effect is also enhanced by an increase in the burned gas component corresponding to EGR in this gas. Further, there is a concern that the pumping loss may increase due to the exhaust valve closing early, but according to the present invention, the increase in the pumping loss is avoided because the intake valve overlaps the exhaust valve. can do.
[0020]
Here, part of the burned gas remains in the cylinder, and its intake valve is opened in the exhaust stroke to overlap the exhaust valve, so that the output drops due to insufficient intake of fresh air. However, according to the present invention, since a supercharger for assisting intake of each cylinder is provided, fresh air can be forcibly sent to each cylinder by the supercharger. Thus, it is possible to prevent the output from decreasing due to the decrease in the intake air amount.
[0021]
In the invention described in claim 6, it is preferable that the combustion control means controls the combustion so that the air-fuel ratio is burned in the cylinder at a lean air-fuel ratio larger than the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio (claim 7). In this case, a further improvement in fuel efficiency can be obtained by improving thermal efficiency and reducing pumping loss by lean combustion.
[0022]
In the invention according to claim 6 or 7, in a load region higher than the partial operation region, the valve timing of the intake / exhaust valve is changed by the variable valve timing mechanism, so that the exhaust valve is moved in the exhaust stroke. While the dead center is set to be closed after a predetermined period has elapsed, the intake valve is set to be closed after a predetermined period has passed from the bottom dead center of the intake stroke. It is preferable to control the combustion so as to perform combustion. With this configuration, it is possible to secure output in accordance with the operating state of the engine, and it is possible to effectively prevent knocking in the subsequent cylinder.

[0093]
Note that the specific configuration of the device of the present invention is not limited to the above embodiment, but can be variously modified. For example, the following changes are possible.
[0094]
(1) The air-fuel ratio of the preceding cylinder may be changed in accordance with the temperature state of the engine in addition to the control in accordance with the operation state in the operation area A where the special operation mode is set as described above. For example, when the engine temperature is low even after the engine is warmed up (when the temperature of the engine cooling water is equal to or lower than a predetermined temperature), the empty space of the preceding cylinder is maintained in the entire operation region A in the special operation mode. Preferably, the fuel ratio is smaller than twice the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. In this way, even when the engine temperature is relatively low, the temperature of the gas introduced from the preceding cylinder to the succeeding cylinder can be increased to ensure a state where compression self-ignition is possible.
[0095]
(2) In each of the above embodiments, the subsequent cylinders are burned by compression self-ignition in the low-load operation region A1 of the operation region A in the special operation mode. Partly, for example, in a region of extremely low speed and low load where the temperature and pressure in the combustion chamber are hardly attained in a state where compression self-ignition is possible, the subsequent cylinders are ignited by the ignition plug 7 at a predetermined ignition timing, and forced ignition is performed. You may make it burn. Alternatively, when the engine temperature is low, the subsequent cylinder may be burned by forced ignition.
[0096]
{Circle around (3)} The device of the present invention is applicable to multi-cylinder engines other than four cylinders. For example, in the case of six cylinders, the exhaust stroke of one cylinder and the intake stroke of another cylinder do not completely overlap. In such a case, the exhaust stroke of one cylinder precedes the intake stroke of the other cylinder. At the same time, the two cylinders in which both strokes partially overlap may be a pair of preceding and succeeding cylinders.

Next, another embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the control device of the first aspect of the invention, when the special operation mode is set, the combustion is performed at the lean air-fuel ratio in the leading cylinder of the pair of cylinders in which the exhaust stroke and the intake stroke overlap, In the succeeding cylinders, fuel is supplied to the burned gas with a lean air-fuel ratio introduced from the preceding cylinder to perform combustion by compression self-ignition, so in the preceding cylinder, thermal efficiency is improved by lean combustion and pumping loss is reduced. In the subsequent cylinder, fuel efficiency can be improved by improving combustion efficiency and reducing pumping loss due to compression self-ignition. Moreover, since the air-fuel ratio at the time of combustion in the subsequent cylinder is substantially set to the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, exhaust gas can be sufficiently purified in the exhaust passage only by the three-way catalyst, and the lean NOx catalyst can be used. It becomes unnecessary.
[0127]
Then, fresh air is taken in and burned in a state where the burned gas remains in the preceding cylinder, so that the knocking suppression effect in the preceding cylinder is enhanced, and the burned gas in the preceding cylinder becomes even hotter. The fuel gas is introduced into the subsequent cylinder, and the compression self-ignition in the subsequent cylinder can be performed reliably and smoothly. Further, also in the subsequent cylinder, the knocking suppression effect is enhanced by an increase in the burned gas component corresponding to EGR. On the other hand, since the exhaust valve of the preceding cylinder is closed with the exhaust valve at an early stage, the exhaust valve is overlapped with the exhaust valve, so that an increase in pumping loss can be avoided.
[0128]
Further, although the burned gas remains in the preceding cylinder, fresh air is sent to the preceding cylinder by the supercharger, so that a decrease in output due to a decrease in the intake air amount can be prevented.
[0129]
On the other hand, according to the device of the sixth aspect of the present invention, since the entire combustion chamber is burned at once by compression self-ignition, slow combustion which does not contribute to work can be avoided, and a high fuel efficiency can be obtained by improving thermal efficiency. Further, since the remaining burned gas is in a state equivalent to that in which EGR is performed, the amount of generated NOx is sufficiently suppressed, thereby contributing to purification of exhaust gas. Furthermore, fresh air is taken into the relatively high temperature burned gas remaining in the cylinder and burned, so that the temperature in the cylinder can be raised, and thereby the compression self-ignition in the cylinder can be performed reliably and smoothly. . Further, also in the subsequent cylinder, the knocking suppression effect is enhanced by an increase in the burned gas component corresponding to the EGR. On the other hand, with the exhaust valve being closed early, the intake valve overlaps the exhaust valve, so that an increase in pumping loss can be avoided. In addition, it is possible to reliably prevent a decrease in output due to insufficient intake of fresh air due to the feeding of fresh air by the supercharger.
