1427189 3 - Hydroxy - 2 - hydrazoxomethyl- 4-aza-2,4-pentadienenitriles BYK GULDEN LOMBERG CHEMISCHE FABRIK GmbH 5 Sept 1973 [8 Sept 1972 (2)] 41667/73 Heading C2C Novel compounds in which A and B are hydrogen, hydroxy, C 1-7 alkoxy, NR<SP>8</SP>R<SP>9</SP> or NR<SP>8</SP>-C(=O)R<SP>9</SP> (in which R<SP>8</SP> and R‹ are hydrogen, C 1-7 alkyl, C 2-7 alkenyl or C 2-7 alkynyl group in which a methylene group may be replaced by oxygen, C 3-6 cycloalkyl or R<SP>8</SP> and R<SP>9</SP> together represent C 2-5 alkylene in which one or more methylene groups can be replaced by O, S or NR<SP>7</SP>) R<SP>3</SP> is (in which R<SP>4</SP> is hydrogen, a C 1-14 alkyl, C 2-7 alkenyl or C 2-7 alkynyl group in which an alkyl group may be optionally substituted by an NR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP> group and in which a methylene group may be replaced by oxygen, C 3-6 cycloalkyl optionally substituted by an NR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP> group, a phenyl or pheny-C 1-6 alkyl group (optionally substituted by C 1-7 alkyl, C 1-7 alkoxy, C 1-7 alkylthio, C 2-5 alkoxycarbonyl, halogen, trifluoromethyl, nitro and/or cyano) R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are hydrogen, a C 1-6 alkyl C 2-7 alkenyl or C 2-7 alkynyl group in which a methylene group may be replaced by oxygen, C 3-6 cycloalkyl or R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> together represent C 2-5 alkylene in which one or more methylene groups may be replaced by O, S or NR<SP>7</SP>, X is O, S or NR<SP>7</SP> and Y is O, S or NH) and R<SP>7</SP> is hydrogen or C 1-7 alkyl, and their tautomers and salts are prepared by reaction of a compound II or III or their tautomers in which R<SP>10</SP> is OR<SP>11</SP>, SR<SP>11</SP> or NR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP> (in which R<SP>11</SP> is alkyl, phenyl or phenylalkyl) with the proviso that in Formula III neither A nor B is alkoxy with a compound R 3 -NH-NH 2 . Compounds I prepared are those in which (i) A is hydrogen and B is hydroxyl, dimethylamino, pyrrolidino or piperidino or (ii) A is hydroxyl and B is acetylamino and R<SP>3</SP> is -COR<SP>4</SP>, -COOR<SP>4</SP>, -CONR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP> C(=NH)NR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP> or CSNH 2 (in which R<SP>4</SP> is as above and R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are hydrogen methyl or phenyl). Compounds I are useful in the treatment of gout, cardiac insufficiency and arrhythmia and form with a suitable vehicle a pharmaceutical composition which may be administered orally or parenterally.
