Abstract

1355965 Boots &c BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 16 Aug 1971 [15 Aug 1970] 39455/70 Heading A3B A backpart moulding machine includes an inner form 2, heated presser means 6 and a lining member 12 of a resilient compressible material capable of withstanding heat, e.g. silicone rubber, which has a smooth inner surface and which is anchored to the presser means 6 at the backline region so that the greater part of the lining member 12 is free to move relative to the presser means. As described the presser means 6 comprises a back clamp 8 to which the lining 12 is anchored and two side clamps 10, the sides 16 of the lining 12 being free to move relative to the side clamps 10. The clamps 8 and 10 are heated by cartridge heaters (not shown). The machine also includes gripper means 4 for imparting a toeward pull to the upper (not shown) before the clamps are applied. The gripper means 4 consists of fixed jaws 22 and movable jaws 24 carried by 'brackets 32. A wedge 28 on a piston rod engages rolls 30 on the brackets 32 to close the jaws 24 and impart the toeward pull on the upper. [GB1355965A]
