[Classes 17 (i) and 17 (ii)] A sole-moulding machine of the kind described in Specification 400,930 is modified to form a bulge at the central area by providing recesses in members clamping the sole and means acting after the clamping, and projecting into the recesses, to form a bulge in the sole. A sole is positioned by gauges 24, 26, 28 on a rubber blanket 22 covering the upper surface of a form 18 having a central recess 36. An upper form 20 then descends, as described in the prior Specification, to clamp the edges of the sole. A plunger 30, carrying a bulgeforming member 32 shaped similarly to the recess 36, then descends to form the bulge in the sole. The member 32 is pivoted to the plunger, and adjustable by a screw 43 to vary the position at which the bulge finishes at the rear of the waist. As shown, a supplementary member 52 extends the bulge into the fore-part of;the sole, the member being pivoted at 54 to the upper form and actuated by a screw 62 carried by the plunger 30 and co-operating with a rod 56 guided by a strap 60 and pivoted to the free end of the member 52. When the sole has been secured to the shoe, the subsequent levelling operation causes the sole margin to fit closely against the shoe upper. Specification 463,632 also is referred to.
