Abstract

1327768 Boots &c BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 8 Oct 1970 [9 Oct 1969] 49658/69 Heading A3B A machine for moulding the heel end of a shoe upper includes an inner mould 2, outer moulding means 6, means for heating the inner. mould 2 and/or the outer mould 6, two pairs of grippers 20, 22 for tensioning the upper about the inner mould 2 and an automatic control circuit which causes the outer mould 6 to clamp the upper against the inner mould 2 under light pressure so that the upper is heated, then releases the outer mould 6 so that the grippers 20, 22 can impart a toeward pull on the upper unhindered by clamping pressure and finally re-applies the outer mould 6 at a high pressure to complete the moulding operation. The outer mould 6 consists of an end clamp 8 and two side clamps 10, the clamps 8, 10 having linings 12, 16 of silicone rubber which present a continuous moulding surface when the clamps 8, 10 are in their operative position. The clamps 8, 10 are, operated by a mechanism of the type described in Specification 1259831.
