1303079 Knitting machines, knitted fabrics ENTERPRISE Inc 19 June 1970 [6 Aug 1969] 29940/70 Headings D1C and D1K A circular knitting machine has alternately disposed outer and inner feeding stations A and B and means for feeding insert elements 50 into the fabric as it is knitted comprising guide tubes 65 arranged between selected needles and attached to horizontal radially movable cam bars 66 caused to reciprocate with respect to the fabric being knitted by a cam track 68 on an annular rotatable support 69. Needle cams 15 are carried on a rotatable ring 16 with a gear ring 17 driven through gearing by a motor. An annular carrier 27 mounted on ring 16 carries a plurality of spools 28 from which yarn is guided through tension spring members to the feed stations A, each of which has a member 75 with a guide opening 77 for yarn 29a. Central shaft 34 driven from ring 16 carries a plate 35 supporting bars with carriers 37 for spools 28a from which yarn is fed to stations B, each with a member 79 having a yarn opening. Insert elements 50 may be yarns or strips of plastic or paper which may be shrinkable and they are wound on spools 57 carried on racks. Bars 66 are held against track 68 by a fixed cover 70 and member 69 rotates with ring 16. Track 68 moves the tubes 65, in and out with respect to the knitting needles respectively when feeds A and B are passing so that the yarns from these feeds pass alternately in front of and behind the inserts 50.
