Abstract

999,114. Height-increasing heel inserts for shoes. C. C. VASSAR. Dec. 27, 1962 [Dec. 26, 1961], No. 48621/62. Heading A3B. An insert for a shoe comprises an elevating element 4 of felt or the like having a substantially plane top surface 5 and having its greatest depth at its rear with only slight variation in depth for a short distance therefrom, as shown at 6, from which point its bottom surface tapers upwards, as at 7, to meet the top surface 5. A foam rubber or other resilient cushioning pad 8 with a fabric covering 10 is cemented to the top surface and a front marginal part 9 is bevelled and cemented to a corresponding margin of a ribbed flexible non-slip sheet 11 cemented to the bottom surface of the element 4. The weight of the heel of the wearer of a shoe fitted with the insert causes the forward portion of the insert to be tilted upwardly into close engagement with the foot so tending to provide a socket for the heel of the wearer and prevent forward movement of the foot in the shoe.
