Abstract

An insole has a moulded reinforcement of plastics material extending from the ball of the foot to the heel region and permanently attached to the underside of the insole to afford a rigid support. The plastics material, e.g. impact resistant polystyrol, may be applied by injection moulding and extend around the edges of the insole and through holes stamped in the insole, and enclose a metal shank stiffener. The toe portion or others parts of the insole may also be stiffened by plastics material applied to the top and/or bottom surface. For an orthopaedic shoe the insole is curved upwardly along both sides and the plastics material tapers off towards these side edges.
