Abstract
998,855. Resiliently mounted adjustable seats. BOSTROM CORPORATION. June 6, 1962, No. 23265/62. Headings A4J and A4U. An adjustable seat comprises a seat part 12, a base part 10 and an intermediate frame 11, each relatively movable. The seat part 12 is adjustable vertically by turning a shaft 51 whose movement turns bevel gears 46, 53 and raises a nut 45 and bracket 48 connected to frame 11, so that the frame 11 is raised relative to the base part 10. Since the seat part 12 is resiliently supported on the frame 11 by parallel lever arms 59 this also moves vertically. In this movement the frame 11 is guided by two pairs of vertically acting parallelogram lever arms 24 secured to the frame 11 and base part 10, each pair is connected by pins 20, as are lever arms 59 by pins 96, to prevent listing of the frame 11 under off-centre loads. The chair frame 111 can be adjusted to move fore and aft by sliding rails 107 on balls 109 in tracks 105 connected to the seat part 12. The degree of pretension of a rubber spring 65 can be adjusted so that an impact upon the base part 10 is not transmitted to the seat part 12, by lining up a notch 90 on a crank 85 and a pin 91 on a screw shaft 79, turning the screw shaft 79 which is held against axial movement by bearing 82 and abutment 80 so that a nut 78, secured to an anchorage plate 72 of the rubber spring 65, moves along the screw shaft 79 and twists the rubber spring 65. The mechanism also includes a hydraulic shock absorber 32 comprising two telescopic parts 131, 132, connected to the seat part 12 and frame 11 by rubber joints 135, 133. A back rest frame 120 pivoted at 121 to the seat part 12 is angularly adjusted by means of a toothed slot 124 and pin 125.
