Abstract

995,148. Making acoustic tiles. I/S KAHLER & CO. April 18, 1962 [April 20, 1961], No. 15099/62. Heading B5A. A fleece 1 of mineral wool containing a drying or thermosetting binding agent is embossed by a roller 3 and then hot-pressed between smooth belts 10, 11. Roller 3 may have rubber projections, may be heated or cold and compresses the fleece to its final thickness so that the embossed pattern is retained after hot-pressing. Belts 10, 11 are backed by plates 12, 13, which may be perforated and deliver super-heated vapour through the perforate belts to set the binding agent, or rollers 6 ... 9 and plates 12, 13 are vapour or electrically heated. Fig. 4 shows the finished mat with bevels 19 and sound-absorbing hollows 20 having overhanging edges (Figs. 6... 9, not shown). The mat is finally divided into individual tiles (Fig. 3, not shown). The initial fleece may be settled, worked up, have further binding agent added and be re-settled before embossing. The mat may be rolled between embossing and hotpressing. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates a non- continuous production method.
