Abstract

1,245,527. Laminated needled fabric. D. MORGENSTERN. 18 June, 1970 [25 Sept., 1969], No. 47317/69. Addition to 915,682. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B2] A pre-formed protective layer 18 is applied to a needled fabric according to Specification 915,682 (wherein a fleece of loose fibrous material is provided with an adhesive coating 20 to bond the surface fibres and is then needled to produce fibres 19 extending normally to the fabric surface and through the bonded surface portion). The protective layer may be applied by adhesive as a self-supporting sheet, or by transfer coating, and may comprise polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride; in an example two transfer coats of polyurethane are formed on a release sheet and applied by roller to the fabric. The surface of the protective layer may be plain, embossed or grained to resemble leather. The fabric may have been further coated with adhesive before or after needling, or may be impregnated with polyurethane. In one embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the fabric comprises two fleeces arranged with their bonded surfaces in contact.
