993,843. Transformers. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 17, 1961 [Nov. 17, 1960], No. 39454/60. Heading H1T. [Also in Division G5] In a magnetic record/playback head, a gapless ferrite ring 4 completes the magnetic circuit between a pair of metallic polepieces 1 and at the same time acts as the core of a transformer. A single-turn primary (in the playback sense) winding 6 is wedge-shaped to fit closely up to the transducing gap 2 to reduce inward leakage flux. The secondary 8 is toroidally wound about the remaining available core perimeter and the assembly is locked in a holder 3 by resilient pads 9. In another embodiment (not detailed) the single-turn primary may be replaced by a plurality of single turns, mutually insulated one from another.
