Abstract
The invention relates to gas filtering apparatus of the kind comprising a casing with inlets for dust-laden gas and an exhaust for filtered gas, and a filter assembly including a bank of bags arranged side by side in closely spaced relation, the bags including inserts to hold them open in use, and the dust being collected outside the bags. Such an apparatus is characterized by the provision of nozzles arranged to direct compressed high energy gas into the spaces between the adjacent bags and thus on to their exteriors, i.e. the upstream faces of the filtering medium. The apparatus may be used, in addition to its normal filtering role, as a means for separating air from pneumatically conveyed powders, so as to exhaust the air and retain the powder in a silo or hopper. The apparatus is designed particularly for dealing with fibrous dusts which tend to clog the spaces between the bags. The high velocity gas jets on the upstream side of the filter material induce reverse flow of filtered air from within the bags, which clears the pores of the filter material. The apparatus is similar to that described in Specification 914,187, except that the nozzles are of course on the upstream side of the bags, and the bag structure is as described in Specification 905,113. The jets may be supplied with gas either individually through valves, or in groups from manifolds, each manifold being controlled by a valve. The valves may be opened sequentially, or simultaneously periodically.
