Abstract

992,127. Container closures. METAL CONTAINERS Ltd. April 9, 1963 [April 9, 1962], No. 13550/62. Heading B8T. A container closure arrangement for a container comprises an orifice defining part and a closure member, in which either the part or the member has a circumferential groove within which is disposed a supporting ring, the outer surface of the groove defining an annular slightly resilient sealing tongue adjacent to and engaging a sealing surface of either the member or the part. In the embodiments of Figs. 1 and 3 the sealing tongue 17 is defined by a groove 16 and engages a surface 18. As shown in Fig. 3 the sealing tongue 17 and groove 16 are formed at one end of a reversible pouring spout 20, or may be formed in a flange or a shank of a closure plug (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown). Either the sealing surface of the closure member or the sealing tongue may be formed with an annular rib thereon to give a smaller, but more effective sealing engagement (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown). The closure member may be formed with a depending wall which engages the inner surface of the orifice defining part e.g. wall 22, Fig. 3. Both the orifice defining part and the closure member may have grooves defined therein, each defining a sealing tongue which engages a cooperating sealing surface.
