Abstract

An aqueous composition for the stuffing of leather comprises a solution or dispersion comprising a halogenated or sulphohalogenated polyolefin, a saponified sulphohalogenated product of a polyolefin, or a mixture of these products. The polyolefins specified are polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutylene, polyisobutylene and mixtures thereof with each other or with paraffin oil. Optional ingredients are anionic, cationic or non-ionic emulsifiers (e.g. condensation products of alkylphenols with ethylene oxide, or sodium dodecyl sulphate), and water-insoluble oils such as vegetable, animal, fish, mineral or synthetic oils (e.g. shark's liver oil). Specification 618,847 is referred to.ALSO:A process for stuffing leather comprises treating the leather with an aqueous solution or emulsion comprising a halogenated or sulphohalogenated polyolefin, a saponified sulphohalogenated product of a polyolefin, or a mixture of these products. The polyolefins specified are poleythylene, polypropylene, polybutylene, polyisobutylene and mixtures thereof with each other or with paraffin oil. Optional ingredients are anionic, cationic or non-ionic emulsifiers (e.g. condensation products of alkylphenols with ethylene oxide, or sodium dodecyl sulphate, and water insoluble oils such as vegetable, animal, fish, mineral or synthetic oils (e.g. shark's liver oil).
