Abstract

Emulsifying or dispersing agents are prepared by treating sod oil, degras, moellon or like oil recovered in the manufacture of chamois leather with ethylene oxide, preferably in the presence of caustic alkali or a surface active solid, e.g. infusorial earth or silica gel. The products give emulsion with animal, vegetable and mineral oils and are useful in the textile industry as levelling agents in dyeing and printing and for improving the cleansing action of sulphuric esters of the higher alcohols. In examples: (1) sod oil is treated with ethylene oxide to prepare products which are used to emulsify a lubricating oil with water; (2) a sod oil-ethylene oxide product is mixed with oleic acid and then olive oil and water added whereby a white emulsion is obtained; (3) a similar product is mixed with cetyl sodium sulphate to give a detergent suitable for cleansing wool: (4) wool is dyed with indigo in a vat containing the sod-oil ethylene oxide product. Specification 380,431 is referred to.ALSO:Emulsifying or dispersing agents are prepared by treating sod oil, degras, moellon or like oil recovered in the manufacture of chamois leather with ethylene oxide, preferably in the presence of caustic alkali or a surface active solid, e.g. infusorial earth or silica gel.
