987,596. Multi-Spindle lathes. ZAVODY PRESNEHO STROJIRENSTVI GOTTWALDOV NARODNI PODNIK. June 1, 1962 [June 3, 1961], No. 21217/62. Heading B3T. A multi-spindle lathe comprises an indexable work-spindle drum 25 and coaxial shafts V<SP>1</SP>, VII for driving the spindles 26 at different speeds, the shafts being driven by a shaft II. Drive for the shaft II is from an electromotor 1 and gears 2, 3. A gear 4 on shaft II meshes with a double-gear 5, 7 engageable selectively with gears 9, 11 on a shaft IV<SP>1</SP> which, through changegears 13, 15 drives the shaft V<SP>1</SP>. A similar arrangement of gears 6, 8, 10, 12, 18, 20 and change-gears 21, 22 drives the shaft VII. Gears 17, 23, on the ends of the shafts V<SP>1</SP>, VII within the drum 25, engage gears 19, 24 on the driving elements of clutches 27, 28, the driven elements of which are connected to the spindles. The clutches are selectively engaged by slidable control rings 29 which may be operated automatically when the spindle drum is indexed.
