986,961. Feeding cards. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. June 12, 1963 [June 18, 1962], No. 23320/63. Heading B8S. A card feeder mechanism comprising a picker knife 18 for feeding of cards C into a machine (not shown) is characterized in that the picker knife 18 is mounted on a leaf-spring 32. The leaf-spring 32 is triangular in shape and is preloaded against cams 46 co-operating with rollers 44. A step or blade 18a slightly less in depth than the thickness of a card C engages the edge of the lowermost card C1 in a hopper 10 on the feeding stroke, the trajectory 70 of the picker knife 18 (Fig. 7) showing first a rise and then a fall. The forward part of the stack of cards C rests on a throat plate 16, the rearward part on either part 18b or 18c of the picker blade 18. Feed rollers 20 grip the card C1 and send it on out of the stack.
