1,257,686. Feeding and delivering sheets. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 4 Dec., 1969 [11 Dec., 1968], No. 59159/69. Heading B8R. General arrangement.-Record cards are separated from a pile in supply area 14 fed to reading station 18 and subsequently delivered into receptacle 20. A deflector 116 is selectively actuable to displace a card angularly with respect to the delivery path so that it occupies a different position in receptacle 20 to an undeflected card. Feeding sheets.-Cards are separated from the bottom of the pile by a reciprocating member 22 driven by oscillating mechanism 24. Cards are moved into contact with wall 28 and then in direction 30 into the reader. Delivering sheets.-A card is moved into register with a stop 148 whereupon the stop is removed and the roller 94 lowered to grip the card and advance it incrementally through the reading station. The card is subsequently released by roller 94 and taken up by friction rollers 38 and 40. Depending upon the number of stepping increments of roller 94 during reading, deflector 116 remains inactive or is pivoted about axis 130 to displace the trailing edge of the card. Receptacle 20 is shaped with two adjacent corners 64 and 78 positioned to accommodate the corners of undeflected and deflected cards respectively.
