986,339. Helico-centrifugal pumps. R. M. PENNEY. Dec. 10, 1963 [Feb. 22, 1963], No. 7200/63. Heading F1C, A centrifugal pump comprises an axial inlet leading to a pump chamber defined between two generally conical walls, the minimum cross-sectional dimension of the flow path through the pump at no position being substantially less than the minimum cross-sectional dimension of the inlet. The pump shown has a casing with parallel conical walls 10, 11, the impeller 12 being correspondingly shaped. The inlet 7 is axial, and the outlet 8 spirals inwardly from a point within the maximum diameter of the casing, eventually running along the axis of the pump. The driving means 13 may be an hydraulic motor. The walls 10, 11 may be of curved conoidal form. The pump may be used at the bottom of a well, with the pump casing rotated on a drill pipe.
