Abstract
1475722 Centrifugal pumps WORTHINGTON PUMP INTERNATIONAL Inc 17 May 1974 [27 June 1973] 22149/74 Heading F1C An inlet conduit for, or integral with, the casing of a centrifugal pump comprises an inlet 12, a diverging section 34, a curved section 35, a straight cylindrical section 36 and an outlet 13. At the plane of intersection between sections 34 and 35 the cross-sectional area is greater than but not more than three times the cross-sectional area of the outlet. Moreover the flow passage at this plane may be oval having a width CW of up to 3D and a height CH of not less than À 3A, the cross-sectional area of the oval being from 1À50 to 2À25 times the cross-sectional area of the outlet. The inlet diameter A is not less than À75D, but is generally À9 to 1À25 D. The radius R, Fig. 7, of the curved section is À75 to 1À50 D. The diameter D may be 20% greater or less than the diameter of impeller eye 27. The straight section 36 may contain an inducing screw (40), Fig. 9 (not shown), driven with the pump impeller.
